4.0 out of 5 stars Wheeler hitting some real highs!, 1 Aug. 2014

Wheeler et al do it again. After the elegance of Deer Wan, Gnu High seems even more sparse and introspective, but is filled with sensitive interaction and some very tasteful melodic interplay between Wheeler and Jarrett. Dave Holland and DeJohnette add an understated but complimentary background, underlining the melodic development but never overwhelming. This one is gonna get lots and lots of plays! Simply lovely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Loud and effective, 26 Jun. 2014

This is a great little alarm that I've used for years and has travelled to numerous countries.
I'm buying another for a 2nd property, since this alarm is so robust and user-friendly that I simply didn't want a different piece of equipment; this was a natural choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quietly compelling, 22 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Muscle Shoals [DVD] (DVD)
Don't expect fireworks, this is not rock'n'roll, this is a quiet, contemplative tale of people who love making, writing and producing music and the place that made it happen. It's quite enthralling and totally compelling; one of those movies, like Dave Grohl's Sound City, which I intend to watch again and again. Total quality!

A Man In Full
A Man In Full
by Tom Wolfe
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.68

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, perplexing, frustrating - all of life is here!, 22 April 2014
This review is from: A Man In Full (Paperback)
Wolfe's high-quality tale of Atlanta folk and their strange connection is a bit like reading a Robert Altman film. Threads start, diverge, then come together, before colliding in bizarre twists of fate. Wolfe's characters are both real in their imagining, yet a pastiche of Georgia 'characters' at the same time - it feels like I've met or could meet any of the quirky and slightly irascible bunch of misfits in this rambling but highly entertaining story of personal and city politics. Egos are massaged and exploded, events occur both in fast-forward and strangely slowed time - it's a Fielding-like romp for the late 20th century.
If there's one item of criticism, it's Wolfe's narrator-style wrapping-up of the different threads, as if he'd become bored of the story by the last chapter. Howener this minor deficiency does not detract from the enjoyment of this tale of misfortune, fate and philosophy. All in all, a nice job Mr Wolfe.

Gigaset A120 Twin DECT Cordless Phone Set - Black
Gigaset A120 Twin DECT Cordless Phone Set - Black
Price: £24.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic but good value, 11 Dec. 2012

Bought this for an older relative and it's a really good phone set. Buttons are simple but solid, programming the numbers in was easy and the ability to send the list to another phone was really useful. My only gripe was that the cheapness extended to the crappy set of ring-tones on offer, but otherwise it's a really good value set.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Pre-Punk Progressive Genius at work, 7 Jun. 2009
This review is from: Godbluff (Audio CD)
Hamill does it again. Slightly scary, pre-punk bile, inventiveness and really nicely put together progressive pieces. Out-theatre's Gabriel's Genesis by a country mile and great sounds, particularly the way that the Hammond Organ carries pieces of melody/riff through pieces like Undercover Man and Scorched Earth. The use of sax gives some of the work a jazz-rock edge and the shifting tempos and time-signatures are particularly enjoyable. Recommended, although do not get too excited about the extra live tracks, where the recording quality really doesn't do justice to the music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty debut, 30 Mar. 2009
This review is from: Traffic (Audio CD)
Really nice opening album from the talented Traffic, with evidence of all of the their bluesy, folksy, mind-expanding style already in presence. Whilst I can't argue tht this has the magic and intensity of something like John Barleycorn, it's a really good intro to the intriguing and underground majesty that is Traffic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard-Rocking band with Great Female Lead Vocalist, 29 Dec. 2007
This review is from: Shaved and Dangerous (Audio CD)
I first heard this album back in 1994 and regret not seeing them in Oz when I could have done. Ballsy guitar playing and my favourite female rock vocalist - powerful, bluesy and with great songs. Lights Out at Eleven and Stoopid are highlights on this album - if you like Bad Co. or anything rocky from the 70's or 90's you'll love this - check it out!
