Very happy with this item which was a Xmas present for a nephew. THIs is the second we have bought, having bought one for our daughter who was suitably absorbed.

Philips SRU8008/10 Prestigo 8-in-1 Remote Control

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, easy to use and setup remote, 5 Mar. 2010
Brilliant remote, that took less than an hour to get up and running. Setup was easier than I ever imagined, I didn't have to look at the manual, since as soon as I switched it on, the LCD instructions talked me through all the stages, including how to use a device that wasn't in its database. It looks smart and sleek too, and fits the hand very well! Excellent, especially at this price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great movie - a real classic, but poor transfer, 6 Jan. 2010
This review is from: Time Bandits [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I don't need to review the movie, you can probably read the reviews on the DVD section to find out what the film is like. I got the Blu Ray as I'm slowly replacing my favourites on DVD with the Blu Ray versions, and this is why I'm dissapointed.

Yes - the picture quality IS better than the DVD, but that's entirely due to the improvement in the format. It would appear that no effort has been to clean up the film print, correct scratches etc and the hiss on the sound track is awful. This is a lazy and no doubt, quick/cheap effort.

This is why I've given 3 stars - 3 stars for thr Blu Ray transfer, 5 for the movie, which I love.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sorry - I'm joining the 'no' camp, 23 July 2005
This review is from: Mustek Web-Cam 300 A (Accessory)
I note that the reviews for this product seem to be split broadly in two, and I'm afriad that I am voting 'no' in this referendum.
Firstly, it was very cheap, so straight away my expectations were low and my tolerance high - ultimately you get what you pay for of course. This is why it has a 2 and not a 1 star.
Firstly, the drivers that came bundled were hopelessly out of date and not XP compatible - not a huge problem, I quickly tracked down updates in the Mustek site. They didn't work - I could get pictures but no sound. And this is the way it has stayed, no amount of jiggling things, trying different computations has worked - it simply doesn't.
And by the way, the picture IS way too dark, whilst testing the one working aspect - the picture, I had the curtains fully open on a sunny day, the desk lamp AND the overhead light, and it was still too dark, heaven help me if I'd wanted a video chat with someone last thing at night.
Dreadful. Don't buy one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best, 2 July 2005
This review is from: Talkie Walkie (Audio CD)
Don't listen to people who tell you Moon Safari was their best album. Whilst it was certainly good, it was an album of singles, and by extension, throw away pop. This is their best offering yet, a great, deep, eclectic album full of ideas and emotion that stands up to repeat listenings over and over again. Its at once fun and at once dark. Brilliant. Buy it, this is the quality elecronic Warp heads have been waiting for since 1999.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Best way to discover the Art of Noise...., 27 May 2005
Let me declare an interest; Art of Noise are my favourite band, and have been since I was 16. Those not interested in a fans opinion, turn away now!
This is the second version of the 'Best of' that China have released. The first, blue covered version is superior in many ways. The problem with this compilation is that it contains nothing from AON's first few releases, which means classics such as Moments in Love, Close to the Edit and Beatbox are missing. This is due to licencing issues between AoN's first label ZTT, and the later lable, China, who have released this compilation.
Having said that, it does gove a good taster of their later, and some would argue more commercial sounding tracks. Nothing wrong at all with the likes of Peter Gunn, Legacy etc, but unfortunately later releases such as Yebo, and 'cash cow' releases by the China label, such as the Prodigy remix of Instruments of Darkness simply can't hold a candle to the missing tracks.
The second problem is that the versions of the better singles chosen are inferior to the original releases. Often, they are extended mixes, which whilst 'not bad', often fall into the remix trap and fall short of the originals. This is notably the case for Paranoimia, Peter Gunn, Dragnet and Kiss.
Having been critical so far, I should restate that I am a fan of the band and maybe pickier than most. This compilation still demonstrates that AON were decades ahead of the game, and gives a sample of the wonderful catchy oddity that they represent. To me, no band has pushed the sampler as hard as they did back then, and no one has matched their sheer inventiveness. The Prodigy's remix, we see an embodyiment of the impact on modern electronica and dance.
I must emphasise here that despite this, this is not an album of what would now be called 'Dance', so folks who like a good tune should be safe! There is none of the drum and bass meandering rythmical m*sturbation or 'duff duff duff' of house.
Also, Something Always Happens, a track not available on any album is excellent, and well worth the £4.99 that Amazon are currently charging!
In sumation then, a pretty good introduction to Art of Noise at their most commerical, but if you are looking for that wonderful aural inventiveness, great hooks, classical genius and quirky electronica that are the AON at their best, I'd try and get the old 'blue' edition or buy an album proper (I would recommend Invisible Silence, In No Sense Nonsense or Daft).
"Oh, you don't think I should do one more...?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Unfairly Knocked, 22 Nov. 2002
You know, I really dont know why this Bond outing gets such a hard time, to me, its easily the best Brosnan and compares very favourably with Moore and Connerys material (albeit of a different style).
Some of the other reviewers here feel that the plot is left wanting and Ill grant them that there is little in the way of complexity, but there doesnt need to be. The core concept of a media magnate Bond villian in the style of a mad Murdoch figure, is a superb one. All to often Bond relies on 2D, self parodying baddies with nothing more than world domination at heart. This film makes an intelligent contribution to 21st century concerns about media manipulation without becoming dull or preaching. This lack of black and white thinking extends to the inclusion of Wai Lin, the chinese agent, who, out of step with 95% of Bond films, works for an opposing super power, and isnt inherently evil. In fact her inclusion as an ally of Jim Bond makes for a suprememly entertaning partnership, again a real progression from the usual bimbos that Bond ends up bedding!
On a lighter level, the action is the best Ive ever seen in Bond, with some masterful set peices and an amazing pre title sequence that sets the agenda from the first minute and dark humour without a raised eyebrow in sight...
What Bond should be, when its not trying to hard to steal its own past...

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine album, but not The The's best effort, 19 July 2002
This review is from: Dusk (Audio CD)
After the recent release of the superb Naked Self, its good to go back and hear some of the old stuff. The new remaster gives a soulful album the clarity and crispness it deserves after all these years. The songs are still as good as ever, certainly a more commercial offering from Mr Johnson, but certainly never dull.
