5.0 out of 5 stars Superlative, 18 Jan 2012
I would just like to add that Gary Oldman gives the performance of his career. This is an outstanding film and for me, too young to see the Alec Guiness version in the 70s, and therefore only having watched it on DVD recently, the definitive Smiley is Mr. Oldman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, 1 Aug 2011
This review is from: When God was a Rabbit (Paperback)
This book really resonated with me because it captures a certain kind of brother-sister relationship beautifully. If your older brother was your childhood confidant, if he looked out for you and if you were children of the 70s, it will stike a chord. If not, you may well hate it as some of the reviewers here clearly do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!!!, 6 July 2011
This is the best book I've found on wild flowers that's easy to carry yet detailed. There are over 440 species in it with brief sections on plant height, flower size, flowering time, leaf and fruit detail and similar plants in addition to a general characteristics section. Each entry is half a page and the book length from top to bottom is about 19 cm. It also tells you where to find the plants in the Uk and it covers NW Europe. The photos are clear and there are illustrations. It's easy to find the plants when out exploring/foraging as they are organised according to colour- this is the main reason why I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best CD for a beginner, 13 Oct 2010
This review is from: Learn to Meditate (Audio CD)
I have found this CD very useful. Aron Gadd gives sound advice, including listing the benefits of meditating and how to deal with mind chatter; the latter essentially by being content just to be "in the Now" and learning how to go with whatever happens as you sit in meditative contemplation. There are also two guided meditations which focus attention on breathing and on the body. I found his voice (British accent, just so you know)very sympathetic and (hurrah!)he doesn't do that elongating of the vowel sounds thing, which some people I know who meditate find irritating. At the end of the CD there is a meditation which allows you to carry on meditating for as long as you wish. There is no irritating or jarring music either. Don't be put off by the cover image, this CD would be suitable for believers and non-believers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and effective, 5 Sep 2010
I have been working through the radical forgiveness worksheets and found they have helped me switch off that critical voice in my head, confront my emotions and move out of that victim/ blame mentality. This book could be summed up in three words: be the change. It is highly practical and helps us answer the question: "Do you want to be right or happy?".
Thank you, Colin.

Calorie Counter (Collins Gem)
Calorie Counter (Collins Gem)
by Collins Uk
Edition: Paperback
Price: £3.99

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 31 Aug 2010
On the plus side, it's pocket sized and comprehensive in that it covers branded as well as non branded foods. However, it would be far more useful if it included calories for smaller amounts, e.g. for a teaspoon of pesto or a single Weetabix biscuit, rather than the standard 100g. There is a "calories per portion" column in the book, but for the most part this is empty. I'm afraid this is going straight to the charity shop.

This is a beautiful story with illustrations to treasure. The book comes with a CD so you can hear the story read by Richard E. Grant.
