4.0 out of 5 stars Cools My Laptop!, 15 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this to replace an old Belkin laptop cooler, a loose wire meant it was no longer operating correctly, thankfully this replacement laptop cooler has a cable that disconnects and therefore is easy to replace if the same thing happens again.

You get 4 USB hubs on the back, very useful since most laptops don't have enough USB ports, i think they are USB 2.0 only.

The results i get from switching this cooler on are as follows, this is after several hours on, i have not tested during the hot summer months yet, you can alter the fan speed but i always have it on full, there is some noise but it's what i consider a low volume, at least it's a low volume compared to the noisy Belkin cooler i used to have.

Hard Drive - usually around 37c drops to 34c
CPU usually around 48c drops to 44c
System around 51c drops to 47c
Core 0 usually 41c drops to 37c
Core 1 usually 41c drops to 37c
Temp 1 usually 48c drops to 45c
Temp 2 usually 48 drops to 45c

The longer it's on the better the performance but the above temperatures show a reasonable drop for me and tell me it works, i also like the fact i can adjust the cooler's height, very useful feature that most coolers omit.

I am knocking off a star due to the fact i dislike the blue light and you cannot switch it off.

4.0 out of 5 stars As Good As Competing Projectors That Are Three Times The Price!, 15 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this because i love 3D and only DLP technology gives you perfect ghost free viewing, for the 500 i paid i consider it a bargain and it's as good as other DLP projectors that cost three times as much, this is down to the fact it is a single chip projector and uses the Dark Chip 3, other single chip DLP projectors costing up to 2000 also use Dark Chip 3 for their images, the differences come in the implementation of the chip, the design of the casing and the quality of the lens, this projector has a lower quality lens than for example a Benq W7500 but you still get 90% of the performance and more importantly better 3D performance because this projector gives you the choice of RF glasses, RF glasses are superior to DLP link and should always be chosen for 3D viewing.

Now onto the bad part, you will not get a great image out of the box, you need to carefully calibrate this projector to achieve anywhere near the potential it has to offer, out of the box the images are far too bright and have too much yellow in them, colours are just not right and there is noise in the image, some careful calibration will get you a great looking 2D and 3D image, i used a specialist meter and computer software to achieve this but even a simple calibration disc like Spears and Munsil or Disney's WOW disc will help you improve things.

Be aware some people are prone to the "rainbow effect" it's bands of colours that flash across the screen and this projector only uses a 2X speed colour wheel for 2D and a 3X speed colour wheel for 3D, i don't suffer from the rainbow effect, nor do 90% of the population, if you do you will know within hours of viewing something, i don't see any rainbows at all so i am immune to the issue, get a demo if you think you might be troubled by the problem.

My settings below are based on a screen size of 100 inches, a bulb with over 100 hrs on it and a 1.0 gain screen with dark walls, floor and ceiling, they may help you get in the ball park and achieve a better image, you will need to go into the advanced colour menu to do this.

The projector will save separate 2D and 3D settings even though it does not mention this in the manual, to save separate 3D settings you do need to have 3D enabled or you just end up overriding your 2D settings.

2D settings.

These are my setting as calibrated using my meter and software, be aware small differences between each model, the screen and the room will mean these settings will not work on anyone else's projector but they might get you in the ballpark, i decided to calibrate with Dynamic black set to low since it adds much to darker scenes.

Settings with Dynamic Black set to On and Low, Brilliant Color set to 1. Bulb set to High. Colour Space to Auto.

I always start by setting to Reference and then the Gamma to Film, this gives better grey scale performance according to my meter, this shows as User when you start changing settings, make sure format is set to Native and zoom and keystone are at 0, keystone is bad.

Set Gamma to Graphics, this gives a little more pop for 3D, you lose a tiny amount of shadow detail, i do mean only a tiny amount but it improves 3D viewing immensely, These are only for 3D - Do Not Use For 2D. These settings work best when using the Optoma ZF2100 RF 3D glasses as they take into account the specific tint from those lenses, i DO NOT recommend DLP link glasses.

I hope this post can help a few people with the above settings but remember that small differences in each projector, the age of the bulb, the room you are viewing in and the screen you are using will all play a part in the image quality and my settings will not work perfectly for you, they can only help you get a better image than the default settings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helps Improve Your Picture!, 15 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Televisions typically get switched on and are viewed using settings which scrub out detail, by that i mean the brightness, contrast and colours are usually set too high, same goes for sharpness, setting these controls too high is wrong, this calibration disc will help you set the controls right, by setting your brightness and contrast correctly you will see details in the shadows you never saw before, your sharpness will be spot on so that the image is detailed but not edgy and oversharp, it is possible to oversharpen an image and introduce unwanted artifacts, edge halo's around bodies and objects, that's thin black lines, lower the sharpness control and they disappear and you are left with a nice detailed vibrant image.

This disc comes with clear instructions, you can also press the up arrow on your blu ray players remote control while using the disc for detailed information on what you are trying to achieve, even if you are a novice and have not calibrated before i think this disc will help you get the basics right and can also aid those with more advanced skills.

Knocking a star off because i think the disc should be ten pounds cheaper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Irons Great - Gets Even The Toughest Creases Out!, 14 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I wanted to wait a while before writing the review for this iron, well it's been some time now and i thought i would get around to reviewing it, it's not the cheapest iron you can buy, i bought it for 49.99 from Amazon direct, the price fluctuates a bit depending on the seller, it came in a nice box, well packaged and the cord is longer than some other models out there.

I have ironed some shirts which my last iron did a poor job on, with this iron i get much more powerful bursts of steam and it allows me to do a better job at getting the creases out, you know what i am talking about, you wash several shirts, leave them a day or two before ironing and the creases are really difficult to get out, not with this iron, it does a fabulous job, it has cut the time it takes to do my ironing and made the task a little bit easier and more enjoyable.

So far i have not come across anything that it does not iron well, there are settings on the dial for different materials and you can choose a mild burst of steam or a powerful burst, you can also apply a little water to aid ironing, i love the autoclean soleplate and antiscale features, i have also experienced no dripping whatsoever, my only negative is it is hard to see how much water is in the iron but that's not a major issue.

Be sure to clean the filter regularly otherwise you will get white specks coming out from the steam onto your clothes, the instruction booklet tells you exactly how to clean this.

I wouldn't pay 69.99 for this iron, or any iron, but at 49.99 it's a great buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Toaster - Does the Job!, 14 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this toaster specifically to make toast, it does this and does it very well, i have read some people saying the toast gets hot, yes it does, very hot, but it's a toaster and i expect that, i don't need to turn it up high, a setting of around 2 is good for the bread and produces good quality toast, i like the fact i can easily look at the bread as it toasts and it has one button which allows me to switch it off manually, no real complaints at all, it's a toaster and it works and i like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great As A Television PVR!, 10 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this because i needed a new hard drive that would be able to work when the television was in standby mode, that was for timer recordings, the previous 2 items i had bought did not work for this purpose, thankfully it was third time lucky and this model works flawlessly as a hard drive recorder.

I am really pleased with the size and quality of the drive, it's tiny and gets power via the USB socket of the TV, technology keeps getting smaller and cheaper, 1 terabyte for 57.99 is a bargain, no plugs needed for power, just one cable from the drive to the TV, i did a test on the laptop too and it also works perfectly, so it's good to buy if you want a PVR for your TV or as backup storage for your computer.

I knock one star off because the USB cable was barely long enough to reach the TV's USB input, i had to move it to the top shelf of the stand when i wanted it on the middle part of the stand, this is a short term review just to inform people it works perfectly as a TV recording device, i will come back and amend the review if the drive doesn't last but fingers crossed that it will have long term reliability.

3.0 out of 5 stars Attractive Enclosure - Not Suitable For Use As A PVR, 3 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I specifically bought this external enclosure to use with a western digital 2 terabyte hard drive, i wanted something that would keep the drive cool and also look attractive on my television's black piano glass stand, the Icy Box ticked all the boxes in this regard, it was delivered with the hard drive, i love the easy and quick way that you can install the hard drive within the caddy, just use the thumbscrews to open the casing and you can quickly drop your hard drive in, then you use the 4 black screws that come with the caddy to fix your hard drive in place.

When i first connected it to my laptop it would not be recognized as a hard drive by my computer until i went into the control panel, system and security, administrative tools and computer management and chose storage and then right clicked the corresponding ( for this new drive ) rectangular box and selected to make it into a simple volume and formatted it, then the drive was visible on my computer as Drive G, take note i use the Windows 7 operating system, the above info will work but might be slightly different depending on your operating system.

There are no fans within this case, it has large mesh sides and metal plates which conduct the heat away, the hard drive runs quiet and i think overall this is a high quality product, you might ask why i then give it three stars, well unfortunately it seems that it is unsuitable for use as a PVR as my Samsung plasma television does not recognize it at all, i tried everything to get it to work, it did not, that's a shame as it looks classy and works well as a laptop storage add-on but i needed a PVR for use under my television.

One final thing to note, the supplied USB cable was far too small, roughly 40cm in size, they should supply at least 1.5m because its a special type of USB cable and not everyone is going to be using the device right next to a computer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Flawlessly - An Excellent Hard Drive, 3 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I received both this hard drive and an Icy Box hard drive caddy on the same day, i installed the hard drive within the caddy before connecting it to my computer laptop via USB. I should also mention before i go on with this review that it came in very simple sturdy cardboard packaging, that's good if it keeps the price down.

The build date for the hard drive i received was march 2013, thus its very new, it would not be recognized as a hard drive by my computer until i went into the control panel, system and security, administrative tools and computer management and chose storage and then right clicked the rectangular box ( not the Disk 3 basic one ) and selected to make it into a simple volume and formatted it, then the drive was visible on my computer as Drive G, take note that i use the Windows 7 operating system.

I went downstairs and tried it on my Samsung plasma TV, no go, it cannot be seen by my TV, i bought it for use as a PVR and it doesn't work, i am thinking the Ice Box caddy is the issue and it will only work with Windows and Mac operating systems or its a USB 3 issue and the TV cannot see the hard drive as a mass storage device, shame that i have to return it and try yet again to get an external hard drive that works as a PVR.

I think this would be a perfect internal hard drive for those using a computer that need more storage space or to use with a caddy, i cannot find a suitable caddy that is right for 2 terabyte hard drives and thus i cannot use it for the purpose i bought it, it's still a great hard drive and i blame the caddy for the issues i have had and not the drive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cable Clips!, 15 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was setting up some Ethernet cable from the downstairs router to my upstairs bedroom, i knew i needed to tidy things up and keep the cable neat against the floor and side panels and all the way up to the bedroom, i measured the cable size and ordered this particular product which is intended for cables upto 7mm thick in diameter, it did the job and everything looks very neat, easy to hammer in and almost a year later they are still secure and in place, that's all i can ask for.

I knock one star off because i wanted the product in black colour and this was unavailable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea - Didn't Work For Me!, 15 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have a wooden toilet seat and the fixings just kept coming loose, i have tried everything to secure it to the toilet basin but to no avail, it lasts a few days then the seat comes away from the toilet again, i was interested in this product because i hoped it would fix the issue, i ordered the correct fitting and followed the instructions to the letter, it actually worked for a while but unfortunately the toilet seat came away again, nothing seems to work with this particular toilet seat and i have given up, i think i will need to replace it.

I am giving three stars because it didn't work for me, i think it will work better for other people, the idea behind this is sound and at the price its certainly worth giving it a go if your toilet seat keeps coming loose like ours did.
