If you like CJ Sansom's Shardlake you will enjoy the Giordano Bruno series. Although a little lighter read they have good plots and a pleasing main character. I was interested to find that Bruno was a real person and has a detailed entry on Wikepedia.
Bought this for my granddaughter (15) who is trying to teach herself how to play by viewing clips on You Tube. She said that the clips were not explicit enough for her to understand finger poitions for chords etc. She is thrilled with the contents of the book and says it has really helped her.
Thorough review of all the evidence availabe. Pointed out where errors of judgment and / or interpretation have given rise to poor judgements both at the time and by authors in more recent times. Easy to read but with some academic rigour. Highly recommended
