1 laugh out loud moment (flashback to jem, scout, dill reinacting a baptism in the garden pond) but the rest... Disappointing.

I love TKAMB but this book is no where near it.

Stick to the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE book to read if your child is self harming. Great advice and really easy to read., 11 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very hard subject for any parent to deal with - but this is a really helpful book. When you first discover your child is self harming - the shock and bewilderment is immense. There is so little help out there for parents who are facing this problem - CAMHS are often unable to offer much support and this book really does help you feel both less alone and gives you good advice by people who have experienced the same.

The book tackles this very difficult subject in a very sensitive and helpful way.

It gives both practical and emotional advice - this is THE book for anyone who is trying to help a child who is self harming.

It is very easy to read and is a really helpful book which although you'd rather not buy (no one wishes this for their child) you really will not regret buying if this is happening in your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it early before your daughter with ASD is a teenager! - this book is full of great advice to get through the teenage years., 11 April 2015

This is such a great book about how ASD presents in girls.

It is full of tips to help you to help your daughter... It is full of great advice to help you to understand and explain puberty to your daughter. The book is very sensible and methodical and really is written by people who understand the challenges of ASD in girls.

Puberty is hard for any adolescent - but this book really has great ideas to help explain both the practical and emotional sides of growing up which is so hard for girls with ASD to manage.

Essential for parents of any girl who have ASD - buy it well before your daughter becomes a teen - it will be one you return to many times.

Very readable and clear. A great book.

This review is from: Bananagrams Game (Toy)
Better than scrabble - a much loved game in our household.

Tiles are great quality and fit beautifully back in the bag... There are so many ways of playing with these - many on the leaflet inside but other ideas can be found on the web.

This is perfect for taking on holiday, at home etc... It packs up nice and small - but has such scope and play value for children or adults of any age.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really really good read for anyone who loves or works with a child who has ASD., 11 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As a mother of a child with Autism, I loved this book so much.

It really emphasises that you have a child, first and foremost - I hate when people call my daughter "autistic" the emphasis being that that is the sum part of her.

There is far more to my child than her autism and I love this book and the way it sets things out.

This book is essential for anyone whose child has autism or for anyone who works with a child with autism.

Buy it and give it to anyone in your life who struggles to understand about your child having asd - especially those who only chose to see the negatives associated with your child having autism. For all those people out there who have preconceived ideas of what an 'autistic' child is - read this book and become enlightened.

It is a simple book to read - but has so much good information . Essential reading in my opinion for anyone who loves or works with someone who has autism.

It helps you to focus on how

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing... over simplistic approach based on rewards... but no real tips to help a child combat the root cause of anxiety., 11 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Recommended this book by CAMHS worker - found it to be totally over simplistic and a waste of money for us.

Basic essence of the book was - bribe your child to get them to do what you want; breaking their fear into small steps and offering rewards as they do more and more of the activity / thing they dread.

Totally useless for helping my child with severe anxiety... no amount of smarties, promises of days out is ever going to get her to just 'do' things that she is totally overwhelmed by... if anything the tips in here added to her anxiety as no matter how small I broke the task down - she was still just overwhelmed and unable to do the things she feared...

I needed tips to help her to combat her fears, not just how to offer a progressive series of rewards to give if she does things...

Maybe these techniques would work for a child with minor anxiety issues, but it really was no good for us as it assumed that you can break it down into small steps and use rewards to get them to do it... it offered no solutions / ideas for children who can't even talk about let alone start to face their severe anxiety.

So many patchwork books are all about machine piecing but this book celebrates the joy that is patch working by hand which is such a soothing and fun hobby which you can do on the move - where ever you are.

This book is delightful for people who enjoy English paper piecing and is full of great tips for the beginner or intermediate patchworker.

The photos in the book are stunning. the instructions are clear and it is such a inspirational book.

Love the pages at the back to help you plot out your own designs.

An essential book for anyone who has the patchwork bug!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for fixed braces., 11 April 2015

So so much cheaper than buying it from the orthodontist and the multipack is so handy - can have a stash in every bag / room of the house - which was really good.

Great value and high quality product that really helped stop my daughters 'train track' braces rubbing.

Cases are sturdy and withstand being flung into bags... always have one to hand! Nice bright coloured boxes and neutral coloured wax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little toy... really impressed by it., 11 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My daughter begged me for one of these and I relented.

I really thought it would be a 5 minute wonder and I wasn't expecting it to be very good...

I was mistaken.

This is a seriously sweet little toy.

It repeats back to you when you press the button and it cherps and sings little songs when you 'pet it'.

It is a really well made and sweet little toy which has given her hours of pleasure and amusement.

Highly recommended.
