The Last Overseer

4.0 out of 5 stars One for Sci-Fi fans, 5 Sept. 2013

This review is from: The Last Overseer (Kindle Edition)
This book is set on a post apocalyptic earth where technologically advanced, humanoid aliens have taken over control due to a polar shift and natural disasters that wiped out most of the population and civilisation of earth. It follows Brennan and his daughter on a journey of discovery to identify what these aliens' intentions really are and just what is happening to the people remaining on earth.
I found that the more you read the book the more interesting the story gets. There is a good conspiracy theory that runs throughout the book and it all comes together well at the end with an exciting final few chapters. It is full of out of the ordinary concepts and well rounded ideas.
The proofreading of this book is questionable which is a shame as it sometimes distracts from a story that has potential to be very popular.
The author uses detailed descriptions and has developed the main characters well. I particularly enjoyed Doctor Baal's devious nature.
For Sci-fi and fantasy fans this is one for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting and educational guide, 2 Sept. 2013

This book examines the origins of the cold war, the history of the CIA and looks at political figures and how they responded to the crises they faced through the years 1945 -1963.
It is a well written and interesting historical text that is well referenced to back up theories proposed by the author.
I particularly enjoyed reading about the history of the CIA, how it was run and how it deteriorated into an organisation that acted on its own initiative.
It is insightful. I was surprised to learn about the amount of US Government spending on defence budgets over the twentieth century and what they are still spending now. The author does well to highlight the change from the threat of the cold war, to the threat of terrorism in why the Government explains the need to spend so much.
I find this book to be a very useful and educational guide to American history and politics over the course of the cold war.

The Soulmate Experience: A Practical Guide to Creating Extraordinary Relationships
The Soulmate Experience: A Practical Guide to Creating Extraordinary Relationships

5.0 out of 5 stars Personable, Practical, Positive!, 31 Aug. 2013

I have read a few 'self-help' guides before and unlike them, this is a very personable and approachable book that allows you to improve your relationship with your partner and yourself.
Reading the book you realise how harmful certain things are to your relationship that you do, such as holding on to expectations and negative energy. I was surprised to find that I ticked several boxes from the conventional relationship model!
It sets realistic, achievable goals with practises that can be used not only for your soul mate but can be incorporated into other relationships too, and also helps to develop yourself and your own well being.
It has a good use of real life examples which makes the book easier to relate to and understand. It is a practical positive way to change behaviours.
A great book, definitely recommend it and I will be trying out the techniques and practises in the future.

52 Prescriptions for Happiness: A Year of Inspiration for the Body, Mind, and Soul
52 Prescriptions for Happiness: A Year of Inspiration for the Body, Mind, and Soul
Price: £1.49

5.0 out of 5 stars A practical guide to Happiness, 30 Aug. 2013

This book gives you 52 'prescriptions' that will help you become a happier, more positive person. Each prescription covers one week of the year.
It is eye opening, I found that as I read the book I realised I was doing things like tensing my muscles whilst at my computer more instinctively than I needed to be and when I should be relaxing.
It is full of practical ideas, things that you can do while at your desk at work or at home, that are very simple and easy to follow.
It challenges you to think differently and see life in a more positive way.
It is full of good advice, like how just simply stretching can help you feel more relaxed. It really does encourage you to feel good about every day.
The art work is wonderful and completely fits with the themes of the book. I'm glad the authors decided to add in the explanations of the artists themselves.
This book is a great reminder that we all need to slow down from time to time and take it easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well written study!, 28 Aug. 2013
This is a well written study into a difficult subject known as 'religion', its faults and explores alternatives to what you can do if searching for spiritual enlightenment.
There are some things in there that I had not even considered before, such as why does it matter to God what clothing people wear?
The book is well set out with headings and sub-headings making the book flow for an easy and understandable read. It also covers a wide range of topics from ancient religion to fairy tales to philosophy.
I found it to have a good, in depth comparison between the different religions with good use of references and quotes to back up particular points. It was definitely well researched and informative.
I was worried at first that it might be a little too anti-religion but it actually had a professional and objective opinion throughout focussing on truths and facts.
I would recommend this book to others.

This is a well written and detailed sight-seeing guide. It explores the rich history of Sorrento which I find very appealing and looks deeply into the great places you can visit including local architecture, beaches and archaeological sites. This is a great guide if you are looking for things to do and places to see in Sorrento.

It was a good story. Short and sweet. The ending was a bit abrupt though but all in all good for a quick read.
