2.0 out of 5 stars Leakage problems, 2 Feb 2008
There is no faulting the design of this kettle, it is absolutely beautiful. It boils water quickly and quietly , and has a good capacity. However, within 6 months it bagan to leak from the bottom of the water level. (I should have replaced it then, silly me). The leaking subsequently stopped, but sods law, it began again after the warranty had expired. I got another one, the same leakage problem again. Having read other comments on this range, it would appear that this there is a fault that the manufacturers need to address. Alas they have not yet admitted there is a fault. So, if you want a kettle to look at, there are few as aesthetically pleasing as this. However if you do wish to use it for the purpose it was intended, it is in my view a waste of money, as you will have to replace it often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless comedy!, 10 April 2005
I first saw this film in Atlanta in the late 70s - my lord was it funny! 20+ years later I watched it again anticipating the humour might have somewhat waned over the years...how wrong I was! I was doubled over in hysterics! The grand doyens of black cinema and comedy give wonderfully memorable performances. This film is an absolute treat. A great film with an awesome soundtrack to boast too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read!, 5 April 2005
My Polish girlfriend bought this for me as she knows I like military history. I had confused this episode of history with the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. I did not know the extent of Poland's suffering until I read this book: the Pole's were sold down the river by the allies - twice. You read this book and are at times left speechless. The book is a suprisingly easy read for something so hefty. This is an excellent book for anyone interested in the unsung battles and struggles of world War II. However,I must agree with another review that having to keep flicking to the appendices is a trifle annoying. Nevertheless the content of the book is compelling, facsinating and highly informative, thus the 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars 80s Nostalgia revisited!, 2 Mar 2005
What a trip down memory lane! Ok, so the special effects look dated....well what do you expect, this was first aired in 1983. I and countless others were glued to TV sets for the event of the week. It managed to captivate so many people. As a sci-fi show it captures all the paranoia of 1950s 1960s America as well as harping back to the golden days of television Sci-fi.
V had everything; humanity fighting for it's survival, reptilian aliens (literally), macho heroes, collaborators. When the aliens make first contact, and mention that they come in peace, the UN secretary General bares a striking resemblance to Neville Chamberlain, and so to does the speech he gives sound very similar to Chamberlains "peace in our time" speech. V draws a lot of parallels with Nazi Germany; the Hitler Youth and the SA to name two. The purging and denunciations of scientists smacks of Stalin's Russia.
Anyway, this DVD is a treat, a slice of 80s sci-fi! Which guy didn't want to be the hunky Donovan (Mark Singer), and which girl didn't want to be beautiful doctor, Julie Parish, when they were younger? However, I feel the most memorable roles were those of the peaceful alien Willy, played by Robert Englund (of Freddy Kruger fame), who allies himself with the resistance, and The evil but sexy Diana (Jane Badler), the Aliens chief science officer. The story continues with the "Final Battle" 1 & 2; however there were another 19 episodes after that! If you do watch the others look out for Michael Ironside's first-class performance as a resistance leader!

5.0 out of 5 stars A harrowing masterpiece, 24 Feb 2005
This review is from: Lilya 4-Ever [DVD] [2002] (DVD)
If you are expecting one of Lukas Moodysson's happier films like Tillsammans (Together), you 're sorely mistaken. This is not a criticism in any way. The film is truly fantastic, a wonderful social observation.
The film is brutal in its delivery, and definitely pulls no punches. Throughout the entire film you are constantly asking yourself "Do such people & places exist"? Well of course they do. But this is a review of the film and not a social discourse!
The main character of this film, as the title suggests is Lilya, played superbly by Oksana Akinshina. She is left to fend for herself when her mother leaves for the USA. Supporting her is Volodnya, who just wants to play basketball, computer games (and sniff glue), however this young boy is very switched on. The two of them soon form a friendship. The two youngster's surroundings are far from salubrious, and they dream of leaving or escaping (depending on your definition of escape).
This film is as powerful as it is emotional. The life Lilya and Volodnya lead and the life that awaits them is one of unimaginable brutality, suffering, anguish and heartache, things just seem to go from bad to worse; you will be dumbstruck by the callous insensitivity of vermin that prey on the two characters, especially Lilya.
Enough, before I give it all away, You'll have to watch the rest! WATCH this film, but only if you have a strong constitution! It will leave you completely speechless.

5.0 out of 5 stars An action-packed, gripping tale of ancient Rome!, 14 Feb 2004
What an amazing book! I thought the Gates of Rome was good, but this, is in a different league! Conn Ingulden doesn't waste time to get into the story. Admittedly there has been a deal of artistic licence on the authors part, which he readily admits to, nevertheless, Death of Kings is a rip-roaring, intruiging, well-written, "can't put down" piece of historical fiction. If you liked "Gladiator" you will love Emperor - Death of Kings!

You can't fail to be impressed by these legends of the disco era. This CD is a tribute to the one of the most influential bands of their age; a wonderful blending of Dicso and soul. From the floor-pounding "Going Back to My Roots" to the mellow "If You're Lookin' for a Way Out", this CD will take you on a disco journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money if you can find it!, 25 July 2003
This review is from: Spirit of the Boogie (Audio CD)
An absolutely fantastic early Kool and the Gang CD. This is not that easy to come by, but if you can get your hands on one, grab it quick! To some people Kool & the Gang are "Ladies Night", "Let's Go Dancing" etc, but theis will take you back to their funkier roots. The best track (for me) is "Jungle Jazz", with it's foot-stomping drum intro, (which has been sampled by a plethora of artist such as Jade, and the Brand New Heavies) combines a heavenly blend of horns with some serious heavy funk. This tune was the original tune for what later went out to become a the scorching hit "Jungle Boogie". Ok, so I've yapped on about 1 track....! This CD is a must for (early) Kool & the Gang fans and "funkophiles" alike!

This is a great CD for anyone who wants to listen to some early Kool and the Gang before they became commercial. This has a well balanced mixture of funky grooves and mellow tunes. You certainly won't be disappointed!
