Beautiful vocals, beautiful album!, 15 Nov 2005
I had no idea who Amy Nuttall was, not being a soap watcher; I caught the video to "Scarborough Fair" on Classic FM TV, and was blown away by her crisp clear vocals and vocal range. I couldn't wait for her album to be released; eager to hear how the other popular classic songs sounded. I was not disappointed! This is simply beautiful. I'm sure the real classical fans might not be too impressed, as they never seem to be, but you would have to be deaf not to appreciate the arrangements of the songs. An excellent mixture of songs too, from the slightly folky "Scarborough Fair" to the classic "Time To Say Goodbye" to the wonderful My Fair Lady tune "I Could Have Danced All Night" There is also a wonderful version of "Greensleeves" and "Fields Of Gold". This sounds like a CD where the singer is totally enjoying herself in its making and it IS a joy to listen to and will be in my CD player for a long time!

Brilliant insight of Vaughan and England, 13 Nov 2005
This is a very honest book, Michael Vaughan doesn't hold back much; telling situations as they way they were to him. The book follows his captaincy, from the moment he became England captain through to the end of the Ashes. For cricket fans this provides an excellent insight to the thoughts and duties an international captain has to go through, with all of the pressures it produces, both on and off the field. The book allows the reader to see into the mind of Vaughan at various stages of many of the memorable matches he's played in as England captain. There's some very interesting information on the players and on other international players from other countries. At the end of the book, Vaughan has written a player profile on all of the England Ashes squad. This is followed by a glossary of results as captain and the scorecards in full from the 5 Ashes Tests. A really enjoyable and interesting book.

A very moving and amazing book, 11 Nov 2005
It's hard to find the words to describe this book. It IS stunning, and amazing and all that, but with the subject it's hard to use those words. The author almost takes a back seat in the book, and the story of the 1914-18 war is left to the memories of the veterans. The author outlines the stage of the war and the subject for each section, but it is the memories that take centre stage. This is not a book for the faint-hearted or squeamish; some of the accounts are very graphic and as a reader you can almost see each situation yourself, through the eyes of the veterans. This is also not a book of stereo-typical "tally-ho" heroes; it's about the ordinary guys, a lot of whom would have done anything to get home, and were often living from minute to minute. The inclusion of events in 1919, is most welcome; looking at how the men managed to get on with their lives and what their experiences were on returning to Britain and how their experiences affected their lives. The book is a fantastic tribute and a very important history to the thousands of young men that were involved in WW1. The book will make you feel many things; it will make you smile, shock you and bring tears to your eyes. An excellent companion to the BBC 2-part series.

EXCELLENT!!!, 4 Nov 2005
Firstly if you're thinking about buying this Greatest Hits CD, and can play Region 1 DVDs, then go to Amazon.com(USA) and buy the Deluxe Edition which has a fantastic DVD with it...a stunning DVD in fact;with Melissa talking about all the songs on the album, old clips galore and 12 music videos/performances in full! Anyway, the CD itself, is much better than most Greatest Hits compliations. Of the 17 tracks there are 5 new recordings, that don't appear on other albums. The choice of songs also goes right from Melissa's 1st album to the latest one. Of the new tracks "Refugee", "This Is Not Goodbye" and "I Run For Life" are excellent tracks; full of meaning and really punchy and have a good feel to them. And you can't beat Melissa singing "Piece Of My Heart". With the excellent choice of tracks, mixing old with new, this is a fantastic CD, that won't ever get boring to listen to. 5 Stars!

Excellent game, entertaining game!, 3 Nov 2005
I had never played this game on the PC, so can't compare the handling of the mouse vs controller. On the whole I found it fairly easy to navigate my way around the screen. The beauty of this game are all the possibilities, levels of difficulty, environments and cultures to choose from. Also the actual games to choose are varied, from regicide(kill the opposing king while protecting your own), death match(which team can beat the other) and campaigns, this latter option you can choose to go through a series of challenges set within a certain time frame; such as Joan Of Arc, William Wallace, Saladin etc... The hours just fly past when you get playing. Really entertaining gameplay! The only real downpoint is not getting to experience each "age" for very long, or getting to survey how wonderful your settlement looks for long, such is the fast pace of the gameplay. Also the dopey village farmers get a little annoying, having to be ordered the whole time to get planting again....not much intelligence from that quarter! On the whole 4 stars!

An excellent final season DVD set, 1 Nov 2005
The storylines on the whole were excellent in this final season of Enterprise. The 1st episode carries straight through from the end of Season 3, producing a stunning 2-part Season starter, set in 1944, with the most fascinating twist on WW2 you'll get! Other stand-out episodes include the parallel universe 2-parter "In A Mirror Darkly", and also the penultimate episode "Terra Prime", where I challenge anyone not to shed a tear or two. The final episode was a little disappointing for me. The concept was great in terms of continuity into other Trek series, but the death of Trip almost felt like it didn't happen. The whole episode looked a bit rushed and with too many unfinished issues. Nevermind, there has been 4 Seasons of MOSTLY great episodes. Again the DVD set is a great purchase. It matches the other 3 sets, has the same cool menu screens, and similar extras; such as, behind-the-scenes featurettes and outtakes! This is a quality set of a quality show. 5 Stars.

WOW! This is the bees knees!, 31 Oct 2005
If you loved the X-Files and don't own any of the seasons on DVD then buy this set! It's great to have all 9 seasons on DVD in one boxed set. Each season is housed in its own case, producing a sort of library effect when you open the main box. Each season also has a lot of extras on its own bonus disc; including deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, cast and crew interviews and overviews of each season. Each season has a glossy booklet, listing which episodes are on which disc and the scene selections you can choose and where to find the bonus features, along with a list of the original TV broadcast dates. The first few seasons are shown in 1:33 full screen format and later seasons are in 1:78, which is nearly widescreen. Both formats produce a good quality picture. This is the ultimate for any X-Files fan; although it can be argued that the first seven seasons were far superior to the last two, it's nice to have ALL the episodes. The X-Files Movie is not included in the set; considering it was a very average movie, it's not really a down point. In conclusion this is a highly recommended set!

Excellent 2-disc set, 29 Oct 2005
If you are uncertain which DVD version to buy for this movie, I highly recommend this 2-disc set. The behind-the-scenes features are excellent, showing all aspects of the making of the movie....from the directing perspective, the costume and design, down to the cast and even the arranging of all those cast extras. Really interesting and helpful too if you're not really sure what the movie was trying to say. A good feature for those not knowing the history of the time is the text subtitles, giving interesting historical facts as the movie plays. The movie itself has made a brilliant transfer to DVD and feels just as epic as in the cinema. Although at times the movie can feel a bit choppy on the editing side, it IS an enjoyable semi-historical film. 5 stars!

Great to relive the summer!!, 28 Oct 2005
Cricket of the standard we were treated to in the summer never looks as good in recorded format...there's no tension and nailbiting for a start!! BUT this is still a MUST HAVE DVD set for a cricket fan. The footage shows a good amount of highlights and player interviews(both English and Australian players) for each Test Match, spread over 3 DVDs, with the 3rd disc containing the final Test and all the extras. In all honesty it's not the sort of set you'll watch again and again, as some of it does come over a bit bland...as another reviewer stated, some of it is just Channel 4's highlights shows rehashed....BUT again I'm glad I own it and can relive the glorious summer again whenever I want to! It's an attractively designed box set and will look great on any cricket fan's shelf!

Legendary series, DVDs lacking extras though, 28 Oct 2005
If you've never seen Blackadder before, here is your chance to put that right. Everyone has their favourite series and favourite episodes, but there's always something for everyone with Blackadder; both visual humour and verbal humour too. It's fantastic to own all the Blackadders in one set, including the extra one-offs which were made such as "Blackadder's Christmas Carol", but in some ways the DVD set is a bit disappointing. With the publishers going to the trouble of issuing this set in a new fancy box, there are no real new extras for the fans that have been there from the start. It would have been nice to have a couple of commentaries at least. However Blackadder alone is worth 5 stars, and if you don't own any of the series on DVD(as I didn't either), this is the perfect set. The DVD set has an attractive design and takes up very little space on the shelf.
