5.0 out of 5 stars Never look back!, 2 April 2013
Now on my 3rd pair of five fingers after 3 years of cock and bull about stability shoes, gait analysis and cushioning. Never felt stronger, plus have taken 5 minutes off my half marathon time and ran a 20mile PB by a whopping 7 minutes this year. Start gently and expect some calf tightness and ball of foot tenderness for the first month or two, then you're truly transitioned to these shoes and will never look back. THE most hardcore way to run and just as nature intended. Well, until it's warm and grit and glass free enough for no shoes at all, anyway.

3.0 out of 5 stars ruined by clumsy writing, 5 Jan 2010
This review is from: The Affinity Bridge (Paperback)
I really wanted to like The Affinity Bridge. The cover looks great, the 'steampunk 'genre is enticing, the themes seemed right up my street.
George Mann's writing style lets him down, sadly - it's clunky and repetitive and peppered with errors. There are some real howlers that still make it past the editor somehow. A real shame, but Mann's style had me scowling and exclaiming out loud. The same things are described in the same words just too many times. I almost didn't finish the book, but plowed on and found that the plot ties up with enough loose threads to weave together another few books yet.
I WILL be giving George Mann another chance, and will check out his second (and maybe the forthcoming third) book.
I really wanted to like The Affinity Bridge, but in the end just found it 'tolerable'.

3.0 out of 5 stars once and once only?, 8 Dec 2009
I watched this whole series of films back-to-back on 4 nights when my other half was sofa-bound and pregnant. They drove her nuts, and me likewise. Infuriatingly bad, nonsensical gibberish that somehow manages to be compulsive viewing too. We swore it'd be a once in a lifetime thing, but something about how the whole experience of watching the Phantasm series will make you tear your hair out with frustration, almost keel over in boredom, then have you laughing and pointing at the TV make sme think - could it be time to do it all again? Noooooooooooooo!!!!!
PS remake remake remake!

5.0 out of 5 stars UK fans finally catch up, 6 Oct 2009
well, to cut a long story short the Watchmen movie was my highlight of 2009, not just movie highlight, but highlight, full stop.
I ordered the US Director's cut Bluray release - region free and plays fine on PS3.
And now finally it gets a UK release.
All in all it's a great film, and there's a ton of new stuff, Hollis Mason's death scene and some new Rorschach voiceovers are of particular note.
I can't help but think I enjoy the pacing of the theatrical cut more, though - it justs gets the job done, y'know?
Anyway you haven't seen the last of this movie, Amazon.com has the Ultimate Cut due for release 9th Nov - Director's cut but with Tales of the Black Freighter and Under the Hood intercut. So I guess muggins here buys a third Bluray copy!
FIVE STARS for the movie
ONE for the marketing of 3 different versions
NO STARS for my own gullibility in buying them all!

4.0 out of 5 stars UK bred punk metal crossover, 14 July 2008
This review is from: Afraid At The Edges (Audio CD)
A sadly overlooked release, this. 10 tracks of furious and inventive metallic hardcore / punk crossover. Well worth a listen for any punk, metalhead or supporter of the UK scene. for fans of Assert, Knuckledust, GBH, angry stuff in general.
