Nope, doesn't work and at this price, can't be bothered to send it back. You get what you pay for, and this is simply poor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cthulu be praised!, 22 April 2014

A good collection of stories although the 'illustrated' aspect leaves a lot to be desired, like more than just a scattering of pictures, for example.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really? Really, really? No., 22 April 2014

They should never have made it. Actually, they should, but with different actors. And a different script. And costumes not on loan from the local fancy dress shop. Oh, and perhaps study how to use weapons. Maybe if HBO had done it, it could have worked.

Ye gads, steer clear of this one and do a puzzle with kittens in it instead, it's more interesting.

Or give it to a friend who's into medieval stuff...as a joke present, although don't be surprised or blame me if you're 'unfriended' fast.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's interesting and a valuable book for the collection, 22 April 2014

But it's not quite what I was expecting. I was hoping form more armour/weapons analysis on construction and thicknesses of metals used, and perhaps some analysis of changing armour/weapons development both over time and regionally. Where this book really focused it's attention was the micro-metallurgy of tested samples - and it does a superb job - but it's a bit science heavy for those (like me) without an engineering background.

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh, the usual semi-thought out track selection, 22 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Hardly the most inspiring music selection to get the legs going on the training runs. It seems to be a loosely connected bunch of tracks that have been thrown together based on beats per minute and what could be got cheaply from the record companies. A couple of good tracks but the selection is odd towards the end.

Avoid - you'd be better offer making your own mix-tape/mp3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, comfy fit., 22 April 2014

I swear by Under Armour compression shorts but these RDX ones are even more comfortable. When worn with the box, all is ok with only minimal/the usual discomfort you'd get from a well-fitting bit of protective kit 'down there'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly brilliant!, 22 April 2014

This review is from: Mcdavid Skully Skull Cap (Apparel)
As a bald fella working out on the treadmill or other exercise in the gym, the problem of sweat running into my eyes was becoming seriously annoying. I ordered this as a 'catch-all' solution to how it would fair (not expecting much).

Seriously good is the result! The thin cap is practically zero weight and very comfortable. It completely stopped the sweat running down my face. Even under my fencing mask - it performs flawlessly.

On a slightly gross note - the sweat absorption of the fabric is phenomenal - do not be tempted to wring it out in the gym as you'll make a puddle on the floor!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply excellent, 7 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Despite the relatively high price, this book is worth every penny. Exceptionally well written in a fashion that allows both the novice researcher to access the information, whilst still presenting the scholarly aspects with sufficient depth to be useful. The references throughout the book are exceptionally good - not something that would normally be noticed; however, the footnote format complete with source material page numbers is a method I sincerely wish all authors would use.

The book perfectly bridges the gap between heraldry and the tools of war - and the interplay between self advertisement and getting the job done.

Put simply (and glibly) you need this book in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent source book for reference, 11 Feb 2013

An excellent book simply listing (with a little description of each) hundreds of sketches of stained glass window figures, monuments, manuscripts, and other sources. There is not a photo to be seen, and these are sketches, but they are accurate.

An immensely useful book for researchers and academic study.

The fact that all the text is at the front, and all the images at the back means a lot of flicking back and forth, but there is no other method that I can think of that will allow such easy reference. Perhaps, in the next edition, the images could go at the front though!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really meant for fencing, 15 Oct 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book as it was mentioned on a facebook forum for HEMA, and I hoped it would improve my Longsword technique.
First impressions were the huge font size and line spacing - it feels like a very small book has been expanded to fill more pages.
Secondly, most of the stances are very Eastern in their martial nature, and not great for Western styles of fencing.
Having learnt Foil for several years, I am familiar with swordsmanship, and there is little that this book can add to the discipline - much better to get a dedicated book on your style of fencing.
Perhaps the reason the book fails is that it attempts to draw together some common traits that then do not sit so well when reapplied to the individual styles.
A book that is dedicated to coaching/training would also do a better job on how to build up skills and move on in stages.
Saying all this, there are some good bits in the book, but overall, it's not great.
