As I'm a whitewater kayaker I bought this book. It's a good reference book but freestyle takes a lot of excercise, therefore time that at 40 it's hard to find.

The title perfectly explains its content, if you want to discover the history of humanity under a pervespective rarely told, this is the book for you. Tom Standage also wrote "A History of the World in Six Glasses", worth reading too.

The Juice: Vinous Veritas
The Juice: Vinous Veritas
by Jay McInerney
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars his personal story as a journalist in the wine world, 7 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's the third book about wine by McInerney that I read. if you're a wine enthusiast and also like discovering the story of those who made the wine world in the last decades it's the right book for you. McInerney mainly speaks about California wines that I've never had the chance to taste because they're hard to find here in Italy. I really liked the chapters dedicated to italian wines.

Grandi Vini: An Opinionated Tour of Italy's 89 Finest Wines
Grandi Vini: An Opinionated Tour of Italy's 89 Finest Wines
by Joseph Bastianich
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars A book for everybody who loves Italy and its wines, 25 Feb. 2013
Bastianich recalls his years spent working in Italy in many wineries throughout the peninsula. For each winery he offers a description of the varieties used, their vineyards and their choices of farming and winemaking. At the end he always expresses a judgment on their best bottles. It's not a technical book reserved for insiders (no tables), in fact he always describes the people behind each wine; the human aspect is king in the book. Wine enthusiasts can get tips on labels and vintages to taste.
The original text, written with skill, it is smooth and well balanced. It surely conveys Bastianich's deep love for Italian wine. Contrary to what he might look like at MasterChef Italy (stingy in compliments and sometimes rude), in the book he often praises wines and people.
