5.0 out of 5 stars Ray LaMontagne goes left field - and all the better for it., 21 May 2016

This review is from: Ouroboros [VINYL] (Vinyl)
Really good album, and a novel departure for Ray LaMontagne - In My Own Way is the outstanding track. There are echoes of Pink Floyd in some of the tracks and that's no bad thing. I like both sides of this album - but must admit to playing side 2 more often. Highly recommend this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality watch, 5 Jan. 2014

I bought this to replace a quartz watch that was going through batteries at a rate of knots. Used to have a self-winding Seiko many years ago - I lost it at RAF Leuchars airshow in early 1990's - so decided to get another self-winding Seiko. I like the simple styling, the blue watchface looks good, the bracelet strap is good, and the date and day are easy to set. Had the watch for a week and no complaints - the watch is stylish and functional and does what it's supposed to. So far time keeping is good too, and self-winding is great and no more batteries to worry about!

On another note the seller gave excellent, prompt service, with the watch ordered on Saturday 28th December 2013 and received on Tuesday 31st December 2013, so even with postal holidays the seller and the Royal Mail came up trumps. The watch was well packaged for transit and was received undamaged.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Pump, 6 Mar. 2011
DO NOT BUY THIS PUMP. I recently bought this pump on the strength of a car magazine recommendation as a replacement for my faulty twin barrel Michelin pump (which I have had for about 3 years and gave good service until one of the barrel seals and the pressure gauge failed). This pump is of much poorer build quality than the Michelin (the pressure gauge dial is off centre) and although the pump locking system is much better than that of the Michelin (the retaining plastic pegs on the Michelin both lasted only days) the main and unacceptable problem with this pump is the that the foot pedal "twists" when being used so that it catches on the side of the base of the pump. Unless you are standing straight over it - any slight sideways pressure results in the foot pedal twisting. The Michelin NEVER did this and had i known that this pump would do this I would not have bought it. I would not recommend anyone to but this pump. If you want a good quality twin barrel footpump buy the Michelin instead - I will. The only drawback with the Michelin is the two plastic retaining nuts have plastic 'ties' that hold it to the chassis of the pump and these are far too easily caught over the side of the pump chassis and guillotined by the downward action of the footpump. It just means they are not held onto the base of the pump - it is inconvenient but it just means keeping them in your pocket until the pump needs putting away.

Really impressed with this lead. Good quality cable, well made and fitted connectors, and the lead has a 5 year warranty. For the price you can't beat it. And it works perfectly too - recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars I give you fair warning..............that leaves you - you'll have to do it!, 10 May 2008
This review is from: Initiation (Audio CD)
This is the album that introduced me to Todd, way back when I was a youthful and spotty 16 year old - and it's the first track that is the real killer - Real Man. However the whole of side 1 (on those old fashioned plastic waffles called lp's) is really worth a listen - even Born to Synthesise which apparently is about electronic circuitry! Death of Rock n Roll is a heavy metallish rant at music critics, whilst Eastern Intrigue explores religion and the problems associated with it. Initiation is a guitar and synthesiser epic, whilst Fair Warning rounds of 'side 1' in epic style, as Todd uses one of his many clever tricks on this (and other of his albums) and incorporates snippets of lyrics from other classic songs of other albums of his. I must admit that I rarely listen to 'side 2' A Treatise on Cosmic Fire' but it does have its moments, although it requires several listenings to really appreciate it.
However this album is worth buying for 'side 1' alone. It introduced me to Todd, and I agree with others who say that the period 1970 - 1980 was probably his peak in terms of creativity and diversity in his music. Almost all of his albums from this period are worth getting, in particular A Wizard A True Star, Something / Anything, Hermit of Mink Hollow, Todd, Faithful. Also check out Utopia's, Ra , and Swing to the Right. Todd Rundgren is an artist that is hard to pigeonhole as his musical styles and influences are obviously broad and varied, but if you want to hear great songs, great musicianship, and great production then you won't be disappointed with any of the Todd solo albums mentioned above. Initiation is really worth getting just for Real Man alone - its an outstanding track lyrically and musically.
