5.0 out of 5 stars A realy good thriller!, 30 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Silent Pool (Kindle Edition)
The Silent Pool is an excellent thriller. The hero, the wonderfully-named Erasmus Jones, is complex and interesting. The plot features mystery, murder, action, violence, religion, money and politics, what more could you want?!

I would definitely recommend this.

Note to readers (and Amazon!) - when you first view this (at least on my Android Kindle app) it automatically opens up at Chapter One. Beware - there is an action-packed Prologue you need to read first!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good sturdy book light, 20 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This booklight isn't expensive but it's a lot better than some of the really cheap ones on ebay. The clip is strong and the wire stays in position very well. It takes AAA batteries (which aren't supplied) which personally I find more convenient than the small round watch batteries other lights use.

Also there are two light settings so you have have the light brighter of dimmer, whichever is best for you. I found the dimmer light setting more than enough light to read by.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting for a GNR fan, but the style is annoying., 20 Jun 2013

There's some interesting stuff in this book, but it is written in small sections, each with a little heading. This makes it disjointed and interrupts the flow when reading.

Also there are quite a few gaps in events - possibly understandably.

Duff's and Slash's books are a better read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems to do the job, 20 Jun 2013

Looks sturdy and my daughter (aged 6) can use it easily, though she does need help tightening it up - obviously lots of pressure is needed to press the flowers. It works very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good product once it is up and running., 7 May 2013

I have Sky HD and wanted to get rid of the phone socket extension cable to one of the boxes.

This product does the job perfectly once you set it up. However as other reviews have said there is not enough information in the instruction booklet.

Some of the earlier reviews below are extremely helpful in getting set up, so thanks!

A few observations I want to make:-

1. The instructions refer to a yellow light on the slave unit when using in speech mode (as you need to for Sky boxes), the light on mine is orange.

2. The way to reset/unpair the units is bizarre - turning them on and off at the plug socket 8 times (master) or 5 times (slave) - what's wrong with a switch?

3. To get it working I set it up like this.

(a) Master unit plugged in by phone socket
(b) Phone socket cabled to ADSL (broadband) splitter
(c) Cable from the ADSL splitter to my router (as it was before)
(d) Cable from the phone socket part of the ADSL splitter to the master phone jack unit - I needed the cable from my phone to do this (i.e. the one with the larger male phone socket connector on one end)
(e) cable from the master unit to my phone (a cable with the smaller male connectors on each end, i.e. the one that came with the product)
(f) at the sky box, the slave unit plugged in to the mains, with the short phone socket cable from the product plugged into it (i.e. so you have a standard phone socket attached to the slave unit) and the phone cable from the sky box plugged into this.

For some reason the (presumably due to the wiring of the different connectors) the sky box could only connect to the phone line if connected using the cable that came with the sky box, with the large male phone connector into the phone socket adapter provided with the product. It would not work with a phone cable with a smaller male connector on each end, one end plugged directly into the slave unit.

4. Once connected you can check on your sky box via the Services menu that the phone line is connected.

Hope this makes senses and is of assistance to someone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sounds great, sadly didn't work!, 14 July 2011
I bought one of these with some concern, having never heard of Komputerbay. Sadly my fears were realised. It turned up quickly, but just didn't work. I couldn't format it, nor could I transfer any files to it.

Thankfully due to the Amazon returns policy I've got a refund, so I've not lost out, but I would avoid this product!

4.0 out of 5 stars A return to form, 18 July 2007
This review is from: Send Away The Tigers (Audio CD)
Send Away The Tigers sees the Manics return to a heavier sound reminiscent of Know your Enemy, This is My Truth Tell Me Yours and Holy Bible (although it's nowhere near as dark as HB). Most particularly this album sounds a lot like their debut album Generation Terrorists - although with more money spent on the production.

SATT is a clear departure from Liveblood, the Manics previous album. Longstanding fans would have expected nothing less, as the band rarely put out two similar sounding albums consecutively.

Lyrics wise many songs have politically based lyrics (Rendition, Imperial Bodybags) although there are some more introspective songs such as Autumnsong - the boys are getting old now though!

The standout track on the album is Underdogs, a brilliant fast-paced tribute to the band's own fanbase ("This one's for the freaks..." being the opening line) which will surely go down a storm in the live set.

There are no weak songs on this album (unlike the last couple of albums). The reason for a rating of four stars rather than five is that there is no absolute nailed-on stunning classic here. There's no Design for Life, Motorcycle Emptiness or If You Tolerate This here. That said it's still an excellent album well worth buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but far too long, 27 Jun 2007
This review is from: Little Children [DVD] (DVD)
This is a reasonable film, but in parts fails to hold your interest. You have a love triangle a released from jail paedophile and a mentally tortured ex-cop and the film follows their respective stories.

The acting is excellent but the film is too long - 2 and a quarter hours. The same storyline could have produced a might tighter and more engaging film.

The ending is also a bit dissapointing and unlikely.

Perstel DR301 DAB Radio & MP3 Player

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent pocket DAB/MP3 combination, 6 Feb 2007
This is an excellent little unit. I have had mine over 18 months, since they first came out with very few complaints.

The unit compares very well in size/weight to pocket DAB radios and other DAB/MP3 combos. Buy a neck strap and it's small and light enough to wear jogging. Obviously if you just want MP3 with no radio you can get much smaller and lighter but that's a different product altogether.

Personally I find the sound quality excellent. Yes, DAB signal fades in and out a bit as you move around, especially in built up areas. However that is more to do with the nature of DAB signals and not a problem with the player. Plus you have FM as well should you need it.

I am also happy with the battery life I get.

I am very happy as well with the service I have had from Perstel. I have had two of these. The first one died on me without explanation within a few months. Perstel sent me out a new one very quickly, no questions asked. The second unit has been absolutely fine.

There are two very minor gripes I have, not enough to lose a star on the rating though. If you pause a music track in mp3 player mode, it doesn't stay paused for very long before shutting down. Also the headphone socket appears to be a fraction loose, it would be useful it it held held the headphone jack a bit more firmly.

All in all however I would very much recommend this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Far too long and boring, 1 Feb 2007
Something of a let down this. Far too long and boring, the action didn't make up for the dull and overlong plot.

Brandon Routh was clearly only picked for the part as he resembles a young Christopher Reeve, his performace was particularly poor.

One to avoid.
