Russell Hobbs 20070 Cambridge Kettle, 1.7 L - Brushed Stainless Steel
Russell Hobbs 20070 Cambridge Kettle, 1.7 L - Brushed Stainless Steel
Price: £12.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, cheerful and does the job, 11 Oct. 2015
This kettle costs £16. It boils the water quickly, and relatively quietly. The internal measuring markers - the red 'petals' are quite easy to see and accurate, too. The lid removes quickly and easily for filling.

Having researched kettles, considered those costing x5 the price, and even reading about a bonkers wi-fi kettle (shame you can't remote fill it - doh!), this, at £16 is a no-brainer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great, when it works, which is all too infrequent, 26 Sept. 2015

This really is plug and play. Cloned my existing wi-fi network in about 1 minute. Whereas before, streaming video would endlessly buffer and the wi-fi printer was barely functional, I'm now getting 80mbps in my office download, and 25mbsp upload. This is fantastic and equivalent to a directly wired ethernet connection.

The sole minus is that the size of the body of main unit is such that it won't fit in all power sockets. That is, the three-pins are at the top, meaning if your power socket is low on the wall, there's not enough room to fit. Since this has to be plugged into the wall, rather than an extension, this is something to factor in when choosing.

Otherwise, very happy indeed.

**Update January 2016**

So, this was a great improvement. However, the signal keeps cutting out randomly. It works beautifully for a couple of days, then dies. Having researched the issue, it seems I'm not alone with this product. I will be contacting Amazon for a refund :(

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear, 2 July 2015

Cliche-ridden, low budget, made for TV by the numbers dross.

It's gratuitous at every turn. A real embarrassment of a movie.

Cheap, quick to arrive and fits a Toyota Prius. All plastic, e.g. no metal reinforcement, so unlikely to prove durable

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and enjoyable but falls short, 4 May 2015

There are parts of this book which I enjoyed and considered to be well written. However, the lack of an overall narrative and variable quality of the writing lets it down, in my view.

It's rather odd to focus on the phenomenon of Scientology/Landmark Forum type personality development courses in a book about Russia. These are Western imports and, while the harm they cause in Russia is alarming, it's hardly symptomatic of anything Russian per se. There is a brief foray into the cults and sects which emerged in Russia in the 1990s but this seems like an afterthought.

Where the book really hits the mark is where it deals with the corruption of business and the courts, to devastating effect on the activities of anyone, it seems, who is legitimately engaged in small-to-medium enterprises. Yet even this section, which had me whipping through the pages in anticipation, rather collapsed at the end. Perhaps the woman about whom it's written didn't want anything else. But it felt artificial and like a joke with an inadequate punch-line.

It's an enjoyable read, but could have been much better.

Logitech UltraThin Keyboard Folio for iPad Midnight Navy - UK layout
Logitech UltraThin Keyboard Folio for iPad Midnight Navy - UK layout

2.0 out of 5 stars Brittle clips makes this a no-go, 8 Mar. 2015
The keyboard size is great, almost full-size. There is a problem with the auto sleep magnet, in that it doesn't switch the iPad off. Or rather, it does, but then it will switch itself back on. So you have to disable that feature on the iPad itself.

But the biggest flaw is the corner clips which hold the iPad in place. I had it for about 6 weeks before the left-hand one snapped. The retailer I bought it from, John Lewis, told me that this is not covered by the product warranty, but because this is such a well-known flaw with the product, they agreed to replace it. They also agreed that, if it broke again, I could get a refund. Some endorsement.

In consequence, this is only recommended for home use and very delicate handling.

Very happy with this for my Nexus 5. I get about 3 full re-charges off a single charge. The power drain with an iPad is much higher, however, and I suspect that it could only really handle 1 re-charge of that device.

But in all, I like this a lot. I like being able to charge my mobile while walking around, not asking to plug in a charger and generally ensuring that my phone lasts morning-to-night. It's small, fits in my pocket and convenient; the perfect solution to mobile phone battery drain.

5.0 out of 5 stars 18 years on - still going strong!, 3 Jan. 2015
I just realised that I bought these headphones in 1997 and, as I sit typing this review, in January 2015, they are sounding every bit as good as the day I bought them. Granted, I've had to replace the foam covers to the earpieces, but that was after 12 years, and only a couple of pounds.

These are superior in sound quality to some fancier Sennheisers, although less comfortable after a few hours.

In all, outstanding sound quality, durable and I'll let you know if they're still going strong 18 years hence, in 2033!

I enjoy using this case. You can access the screen through the plastic cover, which is fine for accessing my running app. I had to remove my Nexus 5 case in order to fit it in this case, however, but that's a minor matter. For the price, this is a great accessory.

There's little I could add about how great the Macbook Air is, so I won't! Would just say I bought it through a marketplace seller. Yes, it's an American keyboard, but the only differences are the placement of the @ key (shift-2) and the £ sign (shift-3, not marked). And so what? For 12 hours plus battery life, lightning fast start-up from sleep and super-slim, portable format, for £680, it's an absolute steal.
