4.0 out of 5 stars A good read for young readers, 22 May 2014

I find some of the other comments for this book a little disappointing as they give only 1 or 2 stars because they didn't realise this is not an adult's story. What a shame - I'm an adult and I found it delightful.

This is the sort of story I enjoyed when I was much younger (LOL MUCH younger) when most of us avid readers would burrow beneath the covers and read by torchlight.

I enjoyed it. It was full of adventure, and fun to read - even without the need to use a torch!

The Two Week Wait
The Two Week Wait
by Sarah Rayner
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Probably more enjoyable if book one is read first?, 22 May 2014
This review is from: The Two Week Wait (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I might have enjoyed this a little more if I'd read the first book first
I found it a little slow in places and wasn't always sure who the characters were or what significance they had (hence book one would is necessary to be read first?) Readers who are familiar with Ms Rayner's writing, however, will probably enjoy the read.

Absolution (The Penton Vampire Legacy Book 2)
Absolution (The Penton Vampire Legacy Book 2)
by Susannah Sandlin
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.64

4.0 out of 5 stars It's about Vampires - if you like vampire stories, you'll like this, 22 May 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The great thing about fantasy - and vampires in particular - is that there are no set rules for writing them. I write Historical Fiction. You have to ensure that x WAS in such-and-such a place at such-and-such a time; that the facts are right.... but with Vampires everything is up to the author to invent. So it is the author's ability to write a good story and to have a vivid imagination which can make a vampire novel worth reading - or not.
I suppose the only other applicable rule is that the story has to be believable.

This one, especially the characters, is very believable.
(and look at that cover - worth buying just for eye-candy!)

Fire Dance
Fire Dance
by Delle Jacobs
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.64

4.0 out of 5 stars A good, relaxing, non mind-taxing read, 22 May 2014
This review is from: Fire Dance (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
If you want historical in-depth detail, complicated plots, unexpected twists and turns, lots of adventure and action then Fire Dance is probably not for you.

If you want an easy, relaxing, pleasurable read, you don't mind seeing what's coming or the usual typical romance-type plot - then go for it, you'll enjoy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zulu - Loved the movie? You'll like the book, 22 May 2014
This review is from: The Kraals of Ulundi (Paperback)
One of the all-time superb classic movies is 'Zulu' (who can forget the train-like noise of the Zulu warrior's feet as they approach Rorke's Drift?) The trouble with movies, you don't know how accurate they are, much of the background history.- or what happened next.

Here's your answer to all three. A superb book - one of those "all-round good reads" for readers interested in history in general or the less familiar British v whoever wars in particular. Superbly written, well-edited and an all-round first-class quality produced.

What's more ...take note people who knock indie/self-published authors .... this is an Indie-published book, equal to any mainstream novel (perhaps in some cases, even better!)

The greatest thing I admire about David Ebsworth, however, is his ability to diversify. This is his third novel (Previous books, The Jacobites' Apprentice and The Assassin's Mark ) All three are completely different, yet all three are superbly researched as if each is Mr Ebsworth's main passion of interest.

Note: I do know David Ebsworth personally (we are both published by SilverWood Books Ltd) but good books deserve honest reviews. This book genuinely deserves 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to take this seriously, 20 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Nicely written and produced, with some passionate arguments put forward - but the author tends to fit his thoughts to the facts, not the other way round, which makes it difficult to take any of his ideas seriously.

What a pity Mr Austin didn't try to show that the Norman army camped in the area he has proposed as opposed to fighting there - that would have made for a far more interesting and plausible presentation.

Useful little book, but wasn't quite what I wanted - my fault not the author's! This is an ideal buy for anyone thinking of getting, or who already has a smallholding.

A bit of a struggle this one - not one of Jane Austen's best, but still worth reading! (the book is much better than the DVD versions!)
