Gold Leaf Dry Touch Gloves - Gents
Gold Leaf Dry Touch Gloves - Gents

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Gardening Gloves you can get, 1 Jun 2014
These gloves are the best I have ever bought. The cheaper alternatives do not come close. They are expensive but worth every penny in my view. Hard wearing and thorn proof.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shocking !, 12 April 2014
I also stumbled across this film on skyfy channel. Laughable special CGI, men in horned helmets and a crossbow with telescopic sights. Dreadful dialogue as well. This is not a B movie it is far worse than that. If anyone out there is considering buying it one word of advice. Whatever you pay it will be too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrifying and fascinating in equal measure, 26 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a fascinating book and also a terrifying one. As other reviewers have remarked, the subject matter is deadly serious. The main point as I saw it, is that demons and devils are real, you don't dabble with them or mistakenly invite them into your life. The Warrens are incredibly brave to have done what they did at considerable risk to themselves. Their message is clear, dealing with the demonic is extremely dangerous, they are evil and out to harm humanity and inflict pain and misery on us. Exactly who and what these evil entities are is unclear, but after reading this book, you probably won't want to know.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good I can't wait for series 3 !, 19 Mar 2013
Series 2 of Game of Thrones is excellent, better than series 1 as many other reviewers have remarked. It is also pretty true to the book, which is no mean feat, considering the paperback is some 700 pages long. The performances are terrific from all the actors and most of them are exactly as you imagine them in the book, especially Varys, Brienne of Tarth, Ygritte and the psychotic king Joffrey. For me Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister steals the show, but Charles Dance is a very convincing Tywin Lannister. The locations are stunning and capture the essence of the book perfectly. The espisodes absolutely race by. The box contains 5 discs, but once you start watching them you can't stop. The plots just get better and better as the series progresses.

All in all this is great viewing. The action is fairly brutal, the language strong. For me te real strength is the terrific characters and superb dialogue which makes the alternative world of Westeros very, very life like ! At the end I was desperate for series 3 !

5.0 out of 5 stars Top quality French drama, 15 Oct 2012
Maison Close is a terrific drama set in a brothel in 19th century Paris. The complex loves and lies of the characters are fascinating. I think it really benefits from a second or third viewing as it is easy to loose who is double crossing who. The intriguing love hate relationship between the brothels madam and her brother are at the heart of a lot of what happens.

The theme of the drama is adult, so you have to watch the volume control on your tv! However Maison Close is about so much more than sex. The plot is intricate and you are soon immersed in a complex web of intrigues, double crosses and betrayals. All of the characters have secrets and a tale to tell. There is no out and out hero or villain and the plot has great depth and complexity. The sound track is a curious mix of modern sounding tunes and more typical "drama" type music.

All in all this is a great series. I think (and hope)that there is a second series on French tv that may develop the plot even further.

Lexmark Interpret S405 Wireless 4-In-1 Inkjet Printer (discontinued by manufacturer)

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor printer, 26 Dec 2011
I bought this from another well known retailer when it was on special offer at a bargain price. A shame I did not read some of the reviews on here first ! It seemed great value for money for all the features it offered. Sadly the ink did not last very long at all and when you replaced the cartridges with hideously expensive Lexmark "official" cartridges, the print quality deteriorated with terrible banding. Despite cleaning and deep cleaning the print heads, things did not improve, but the expensive ink depleted even faster! In the end I had to bite the bullet and get a new printer. For anyone thinking of buying a wireless scanner/printer/copier and considering this machine, I would just say avoid this one at all costs !

The Tudors - Season 4 [DVD] [2011]
The Tudors - Season 4 [DVD] [2011]

5.0 out of 5 stars great drama not history, 28 Mar 2011
I really enjoyed season 4 of the Tudors. There are some terrific performances. David O'Hara is superb as the ambitious, aristocratic Earl of Surrey. Simon Ward is also excellent as a sinister Bishop Gardiner. In this last series the King grows ever crueller, moodier and paranoid as his reign nears its end and he starts to loose his grip on what is happening around him. Jonathan Rhys Myers also seems to acquire a bizzare Michael Macyntyre style voice towards the end. The drama is hard hitting and fairly gruesome at times but the performances, costumes and script are all excellent.

Much is made of the historical innacuracies like the slim line, dark haired Henry VIII, and important characters who mysteriously disappear without reason from previous series like Thomas Cranmer and the Duke of Norfolk. If you can ignore these points and just watch it for what it is, which is drama based on history, then it is great viewing.

Siege
Siege
by Jack Hight
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.29

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific action packed adventure, 21 Jan 2011
This review is from: Siege (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. One of the reviews in the press described it as ambitious, which it certainly is. The author does a great job of bringing together the stories of a number of characters and gives a very good insight into the intrigues and treachery of the Ottoman court, the Byzantine Empire and Genoa. I think the huge scale of the siege of Constantinople in 1453 is dealt with very well.

I would have liked to see a little bit more development of the personalities of the main characters and there is a jump from some of the earlier action to the siege itself. That aside, the story is very well paced and keeps the reader interested. The subject matter is very ambitious but Jack Hight blends together fact and fiction very well and keeps the story moving without bogging you down in too much detail. Once I started reading I found it very hard to stop, so all in all I would strongly recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars A desperately poor movie, 31 Aug 2010
This review is from: Cloverfield [DVD] (DVD)
The first 25 minutes of the film are awful. Meaningless chit chat from a group of extremely irritating, pretentious characters that is often unintelligible. Pointless dates and times appear on the screen as well. Things improve a bit when the monster makes its appearance and starts smashing skyscrapers and spawning evil blood sucking creatures. The film tries to take itself seriously by creating a sense of panic and fear. However I was left with the impression that the characters act like they are playing a real life video game not trying to survive a life changing event.

Mercifully it is not too long a film. Overall it is a big disappointment. I had hoped for more from the guys behind "Lost". A monster film for the camera phone generation ? I would not be in a hurry to see it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking western, 28 May 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am a big fan of some of the great Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood movies of the past and this film owes a lot to these classic westerns but with an added modern twist. The performances are all great from the very impressive cast of Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe Lance Henrickson and Leonardo di Caprio. The plot is not original as the film is all about Stone's character avenging her father's death. Many of the villains are both ugly and nasty. The gunfighting contest is an interesting twist as is Sharon Stone taking on a role you would have associated with Clint Eastwood.

All in all this is a very enjoyable film and looks very impressive in Blu Ray.
