5.0 out of 5 stars An Icelandic masterpiece, 3 July 2012
This review is from: Valtari (Audio CD)
An album that makes you feel anywhere but in your lounge. The album forces one to explore a musical landscape, which is an absolute pleasure, especially after a hard day in the office.

Best album since Takk. Though as I continue to listen to Valtari, I may soon admit this album has surpassed Takk. Whereas Takk has the better songs, this album works better as a whole. The songs all melt into one-another and the strings and haunting vocals are subtle, yet intricately manipulating the songs they are supporting.

A brilliant album and so far my best buy of 2012.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling to the end, 3 July 2012
If you like suspense you will like the Snowman. Harry Hole's character continues to develop through the series (I am reading the books in chronological order) and his vices seem never to be far away. The Snowman has an exciting plot and Harry is yet again exploring crime scenes in both Oslo and Bergan. He has the help of an attractive colleague, who's motivation is more than professional, which adds spice to an already heart raising page turner.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful album., 25 Jan 2011
This review is from: High Society (Audio CD)
Simply a superb listen. Once you have pressed play, you will struggle to turn your cd player off. The Silver Seas, neh, The Bees, with fine harmonies and gentle strumming guitars, will relax you and distract you from your work, struggles and strife.

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gold Seas..., 24 Dec 2010
This review is from: Chateau Revenge (Audio CD)
It is always nice to find a new band, with fresh music and a great sound. When I first heard the album Chateau Revenge by the Silver Seas, I had that feeling like someone who had just found a hidden treasure chest.
Yes this album is really that good with four very impressive performances from the band members. They are smack bang in the middle of the soft rock genre, if you like, Elbow, Supertramp or Fleetwood Mac, you will like The Silver Seas.
All songs are very uplifting and are heavily guitar influenced, (but very little distortion) with strong vocals and harmonies. Without doubt my favorite song is What If It Isn't Out There, it catches all the best aspects of the band; beautiful harmonies, subtle percussion and thumping base lines.
This is a band to watch for the future and it won't be long before they see their name in lights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why break up when you are making music like this...?, 8 Dec 2005
An album with a beginning a middle and an end. Even the shorter songs stand out like 'Last Farewell'.

The start is epic, 'Great Hossanah' begins with an excellent build up that wants to make you stand up and play your air guitar. It then blends into SOS seamlessly...

Infact, I should say the whole album blends really well...

2 tracks fight for the best song on the album: 'Mystical Machine Gun', against 'Great Hossanah' and if i'm in the mood 'Time Worm' is a Psycadelic delight.

What does it sound like?
A cross between Pink Floyd song writing skills, an Indian restaurant's background music and The Who with all Pete Townsends guitar power.

Why did they have to break up?
