A sobering read, 11 July 2013
This is well researched, articulate and searing critique of our bittersweet experiences in Helmand and lack of coherent strategy for Afghanistan and the wider region.
It lays bare the premise for going to Helmand - a toxic mix of over ambitious politicians and generals focused on saving ancient infantry regiments.
The UK's current position on Syria and Libya would suggest that we have not learned anything.
