The Invaders UFO Model Kit 1/72 Atlantis Toy and Hobby by Atlantis Toy and Hobby
The Invaders UFO Model Kit 1/72 Atlantis Toy and Hobby by Atlantis Toy and Hobby

Price: £87.65

4.0 out of 5 stars For me it began one lost night in a lonely flat, looking to spend a few hours that I never found., 27 Jun. 2016
I purchased this item many years ago at a much cheaper price,on completion I found the end result most accurate.
I sprayed it metalic blue rather then the cliché silver colour. (Artistic license)
The top is removable and the legs are extendable, to save on faffing I painted the interior a neutral grey.
Here's how assembly began -
For me it began one lost night in a lonely flat, looking to spend a few hours that I never found.
It began with a closed deserted kitchen, and a man too long without sleep to continue watching telly.
It began with the landing on my doormat of a model from another galaxy!
Now Armchair Pundit knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken model form.
Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun!

The Adventures Of Robinson Crusoe [1964] [DVD]
The Adventures Of Robinson Crusoe [1964] [DVD]
Dvd ~ Robert Hoffmann
Price: £7.79

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Music, Great Story, A Visual and Audial Treat., 18 Jun. 2016
Austrian actor Robert Hoffman is great in the role, I still find it amazing it was filmed in the Canary Islands before all that development.
BUT it's the theme and incidental music that gets through to me. I love that theme, it's the only theme that brings a tear to my eye.
Lucky for us the French kept their copies as the dear old BBC had wiped theirs !
B&W - 13 twenty five minute episodes - no subtitles

1.0 out of 5 stars Defeated Vs, 5 May 2016
This review is from: Victory Vs - 5 packs (Misc.)
It's the manufactures who have altered and reduced some of the ingredients in the mix!, and all we are left with is a pale weak watered down version, can they not leave anything alone? Totally disappointed and it's NOT my ageing taste buds, nor the sellers fault.
If this is victory it's a Pyrrhic one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sex And Violence, 22 April 2016
This review is from: Doomwatch [DVD] (DVD)
This environmental based sci-fi show was created by Cybermen creators Kit Pedlar and Gerry Davies, and series one still holds the BBC record audience figures for a new series. This is science fiction for the intellectually starved, no invading BEMs here.
Pedlar and Davies left after series two and producer Terrence Dudley took the series away from it's sci-fi origins and into more straight forward character conflict drama, that's why there was no series four.
A lot of these reviews comment on the picture quality on these DVDs, that's not surprising since the source material of most stories are from the Canadian 525 - line system, the BBC had long since wiped their 625 - line originals.
Anyway here's what you get for your money
There is a spoiler in a series two story title
Main Characters - Dr Spencer Quist, Dr Ridge, Toby Wren, Colin Bradley, Dr Fay Chantry, Dr Anne Tarrant

Series One 1970 :-
Disc 1 - The Plastic Eaters - a plane starts to dissolve in mid-air......and Toby Wren is aboard!
Tomorrow the Rat - A geneticist's experiments in rat breeding creates a mutant breed of intelligent killers with a taste for...HUMAN FLESH!
Project Sahara - A topical story even today with the electronic invasion of privacy as it's theme.
Re-Entry Forbidden - A nuclear powered rocket is to be launched, the smallest mistake could turn it into a bomb....then a error occurs!
(If you think you've seen the space capsule in this story before you probably have, the Doctor Who effects team went half with the cost of building it and used it in the Who story Ambassadors of Death)
Disc 2 - The Devils Sweets - a new chocolate liqueur mix makes people susceptible to subliminal advertising, but - it's also potentially lethal!
The Red Sky - Doomwatch investigate when the sounds of modern life can ...Kill!
Train and De-Train - The Doomwatch team investigates the mass extermination of wildlife.
The Battery People - Ex miners in South Wales stop drinking pints and start drinking Gin....and lose interest in their wives!

Series Two (All Exists) 1971 :-
Disc 3 - You Killed Toby Wren - (Part one of this story has been wiped) Quist already riddled with self-doubt finds himself under fire from all sides.
Invasion - Ridge is held hostage by a mystery army unit...who have orders to kill anything coming out of the ground!
The Islanders - The inhabitants of St Simon are evacuated following earth tremors, a return to their island would be dangerous but the islanders question a life in a increasingly polluted Britain.
No Room for Error - Children have died taking a new "wonder drug"; Doomwatch investigate.
Disc 4 - By The Pricking of My Thumbs.. - A schoolboy is expelled from school because of his genetic defect!
The Iron Doctor - A hospital governor claims their new piece of kit is a step forward...but is it?
Flight Into Yesterday - Quist is summoned home from a ecological conference by the Prime Minister.
Disc 5 - The Web of Fear - Doomwatch investigate a virus involving spiders.
In The Dark - A man called McArthur (Patrick Troughton) is threatened by a crippling disease so Quist has a word with him.
The Human Time Bomb - Doomwatch investigate urban neurosis.
Disc 6 - The Inquest - After the death of a 10 year old schoolgirl from rabies, Doomwatch scientist Colin Bradley recommends ...
"All dogs within a five mile radius of Silby must be destroyed!"
The Logicians - Vital papers are stolen from a chemical factory; Doomwatch investigate.
Public Enemy - Doomwatch probe pollution at a metals firm.

Series Three 1972 :-
Disc 7 - Waiting for a Knighthood - After a vicars breakdown, Doomwatch investigate.
Hair Trigger - Dr Anne Tarrant investigates a research unit, and is horrified by what they are doing!
Sex and Violence - (Never broadcast episode because of it's inclusion of an African military execution) A right wing politician tries to gain power.
Extras - Doomwatch documentary.
Overall opinion - unlike most of today's merchandised orientated sci-fi shows; Doomwatch has remained long in the memory of it's original audience by simply being thought provoking and full of interesting ideas!
It's a pity about the 14 wiped episodes but that's the Beeb and their amazing foresight for ya!

Culloden + The War Game (Dual Format Edition) [DVD]
Culloden + The War Game (Dual Format Edition) [DVD]
Dvd ~ Peter Watkins
Price: £10.99

4.0 out of 5 stars For the Love of War., 11 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These two plays (Drama/documentaries) from the sixties are unrelenting in their depressingly familiar subject matter of man's inhumanity to man: but at the same time are "can't look away" good. The only thing you'll learn by watching these is just how nasty people can be, why go the peaceful route when a nasty one is available?
2016 is turning out to be a cracking year for innovative drama and drama/docs, what with Penda's Fen about to be released too!
Special features:-
Culloden commentary by Dr John Cook
The War Game commentary by Patrick Murphy
Interview with editor Mike Bradsell (2015)
Illustrated booklet with essays and full credits.

The New Twilight Zone: Complete 80's Box Set [DVD]
The New Twilight Zone: Complete 80's Box Set [DVD]

5.0 out of 5 stars If there is a better fantasy based show out there then this, I've yet to see it., 7 April 2016
Take a left out of "The Outer Limits" then go straight on past "Eeire Indiana" and you'll come to "The Twilight Zone".
Although more fantasy based then The Outer Limits hard science concept, and more adult then Eerie,
there is enough diversity here to keep even the most attention deficient person interested.
The 80s version of the Twilight Zone may lack the edge of it's more illustrious early incarnation but that's only because we know we are going to expect weirdness.
The stories are still as imaginative as before, although picture quality is more"blurry" then it's black and white antecedent.
Still If there is a better fantasy based show out there then this, I've yet to see it.
This show is pure class originally created by a man whose talent wasn't recognised until long after his death.
"There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which no other DVD can go.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity.
It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge.
This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone."

Doctor Who Pewter Sonic Screwdriver Pen
Doctor Who Pewter Sonic Screwdriver Pen
Offered by scificollectorshop
Price: £19.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pewter Pen for writing down all those space-time calculations., 4 April 2016
I've had this is my "Who collection of things" for several years and must confess to one and all, it's not a screwdriver but a....pen!
Still, being made of pewter gives it a nicely heavy-weight feel to it.
A point off for not been fitted with a sound chip, that would have added another "dimension" to this. The top unscrews to replace the ink tube. Dimension's are; (nothing from the fourth unfortunately) approx 13cm long and weighs approx 25g.
Now for those Sea-Devils and Drashigs, oops mustn't forget it's just a pen.

Like all Hogarth pictures they are replete with humour and bursting with social commentary and a morale conscience. A pleasing purchase and self indulgent treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovingly crafted songs from a shy tunesmith., 5 Mar. 2016
This review is from: Gaye And Other Stories (Audio CD)
An album packed with good songs from a most underrated song writer, "Gaye" has always been and will always be my favourite 70s track.
and the chorus of "To an air hostess" always gets my feet tapping.
After playing this CD I like to play my original copy of "Mantle Pieces" just for the album tracks,
and then sometimes my "Old Gold" single (Gaye/Scullery) I just never tire of his gentle voice and slightly melancholy music.
Thank you Clifford.
Track list -
Gaye (A massive hit in South America)
The Dubious Circus Company
Not Waving - Drowning!
Time The Magician
Home Thoughts From Abroad
The Way Of Love
The Open University
Jig-saw Girl
A Day To Myself
We could be talking
Where's it going to end
Where would that leave me?
To an Air Hostess
A sad affair

5.0 out of 5 stars £6 a day plus expenses., 5 Mar. 2016
A superb character driven series that became so infectious to me I had to buy every single series. (My favourite episode is still Mrs Podmore's cat, it's so unusual).
Alfred Burke's lean mean features predominates the screen in every scene.
No gun fights or car chases so that will exclude the interest of teenagers, but for anyone who likes original and sometimes unusual drama, and has a attention span longer then a Brazil nut you are in for a treat.
(PS I'd like to see Bond living on £6 a day!)
