5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothly Done, 30 Jan 2014

The Riyria Revelations series was amazing, I was disappointed at the end, but only because there was nothing else left to read. So when I heard these chronicles were coming out I was delighted.

There are no spoilers to the revelations novels and as almost an origins type book it was very good. If you enjoyed the first three you will be very happy with how this all comes together, the banter between the two, they truly hate each other.

My only bugbear was that it seemed a little short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book for odd reasons, 30 Jan 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed this book but oddly not because of the main plot-line, it was the back-stories and 'fillers' about the Gentlemen Bastards that made this a - holy crap its 1am I've been reading for six solid hours and haven't eaten - book.

Finally you get to meet Sabetha and learn more about the complicated relationship between her and Locke. Jean sadly almost takes a bit of a back seat in the book, but you almost don't notice or mind, far too engrossed in wanting to find out more about the early days. There is a teaser into Locke's origins but whether or not you can believe it is still to be seen.

The only drawback in my opinion was that bit (you'll understand after reading) with 'The Falconer' I understand there needs to be a nemesis and applaud the continuity but it still didn't sit right for me unfortunately.

The Rose and the Thorn: Book 2 of The Riyria Chronicles

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps true to the story, 30 Jan 2014

Great read, its good to read about the two main characters in the early days, the darker side or royce and the far too trusting Adrian. However there are a few added gems on the way through like the quiet and brooding Hilfred from the revelations series gets his tale told.

Thoroughly enjoyed, not sure if I read it very quickly or if the book was a bit short.

Cheap price, the case looks durable, with a nice fit, but it was a bit scuffed and has a black mark on the back, which for a clear case and white phone is quite noticeable. But for the price no complaints

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring, 26 May 2013

I'm a massive fantasy book fan, but have been having serious issues with the GOT books, this installment went off on a complete tangent, introducing more characters and continuing Martin's writing style of trying to make everything unpredictable, which after is now getting incredibly tedious. I will likely read number 5 but only out of sheer stubborness. If you find yourself thinking what to do - read the books or watch the Show - Despite the show being quite different i would plum for that, way more entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Disappoint in the Slightest, 25 April 2013

I have been reading the wheel of time for about half my life all in all, with waiting for the new releases etc and this climactic novel doesn't disappoint. The way its written - as in previous volumes, which is a credit to sanderson - keeps you wanting to read on, always just one more chapter until you realize its the early hours of the morning. The tone and plot keeps you guessing a little bit, while not trying to be too clever like George RR Martins GOT's marathons. The only disappointing aspect is that it brings an end to a series of truly awesome books.

Couldn't put it down read it in about 4 days, slightly predictable ending, but still great. The novel flows brilliantly keeping you hooked in and you get invested in each character despite where their loyalties are.
