3.0 out of 5 stars only a few words: WHAT A TERRIBLE COVER!, 3 May 2013
Seriously, this cover could put anyone off reading this book! Did the author really approve of this? I nearly gave up on it on the strength of the cheesy cover and that would have been unfair.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not her best by a long shot, 11 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have read all of Denise Mina's books and loved her earlier stuff, however, I feel that she has somehow lost her edge and could not enjoy this book as much as some her previous ones. I found it difficult to engage with the characters and the story. Maybe it's just me, but I loved her when she was more raw, even if technically maybe she was not such an assured writer.

1.0 out of 5 stars pants!, 11 April 2013

I suffer from chronic migraines and am willing to give anything a chance to reduce the pain, somebody recommended this, and although it did sound far fetched that it would work, I decided that I should give it a go... needless to say that my headaches have not improved at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with my iPad, 11 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Had to return this item as it does not work at all with my iPad. Works fine with my phone, but will only produce loud crackle when linked to the iPad. Also the volume control was stuck. Very disappointed and really don't know what to buy instead!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the doubters, 14 Nov 2006
This is a great novel. I really don't understand how it can be described as boring, maybe the people who didn't like this enjoyed The Da Vinci Code (the only book I ever threw away!). This is spellbinding book. Maybe not the easiest read, although it's not that though, but stick with it and you'll be rewarded.

5.0 out of 5 stars What does reading a book mean?, 6 April 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Cloud Atlas (Paperback)
I am so shocked by one of the reviews below. How can anybody comment on a book admitting that they haven't read a section? What does 'having read' a book mean? Did the other reviewer read all the stories without leaving the more than necessary gaps? The structure of this book exists for a reason and frankly not having read the "Sloosha's Crossin'..." and expect to having a clue about what the book is about it's simply impossible. As it happens, despite the difficult language (stick to it, it's not that hard after all) this is the most moving, crucial and funnily enough, central part of this wonderful book. David Mitchell takes you on an exilerating round trip, getting off at one station and getting back on again when the train comes back really does not give you an idea of what this journey was about.
