3.0 out of 5 stars One for the hard core fans (only), 17 April 2015

Interesting but only for the Van buff. Some of the songs rewoked with this litany of singers just dont work although there are little gems such as the Joss Stone and Gregory Porter tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story but not the greatest writing., 28 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What a shame that a really good story is spoilt at times by repetitive and unimaginative writing. If the characters have another meal that is "Well prepared" I will scream. The details of battles etc are sometimes repetitive and certainly overlong! All that having been said I think the characters are very engaging and up to now the story extremely entertaining! I shall certainly read the next in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good fantasy, 20 Oct. 2014

As with volume one a cracking good story with interesting characters. However the writing is getting worryingly repetitive. Still enjoyable though.

Probably to be judged as his best studio album overall. A lot of people describe it as their favourite. I was simply updating from vinyl. A great introduction to Al's work if you don't go for an anthology.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start to a fun fantasy series, 12 Oct. 2014

A good start to a fun fantasy series. The writing is at times clumsy and a bit repetitive but it's a ripping good yarn. The only plot fault is that he has invented magical solutions to every problem as he goes along, which feels a bit of a cheat!

A much better conclusion than volume 2. The change of central character really worked quite well.

This brings back so many memories of the late 60's and early 70's for me. All that it promised to be. Seeing a live concert last week and these 5 CD's have encouraged me to replenish my later Al Stwart collection
