5.0 out of 5 stars Finding Peace & Compassion, 10 Mar. 2007
I highly recommend NEXUS as a story about finding inner peace and compassion. It has a beautiful message, communicated through vivid characters and events. At times I hated some characters just because of the way they acted like the arrogant millionaire, Steven or Sarah for pushing Logan away, especially when his struggle with depression was so difficult for him. In the end, the novel doesn't assign blame to anyone even the villain in the story.

I loved the message that through our nexus or connection with each other through empathy, we can overcome our depression, loneliness, fears and doubts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brave book, 10 Mar. 2007
Carter wrote a powerful book on the Mid-east from the perspective of a man who has worked tirelessly for peace over his life. He was instrumental in the Camp David agreement between Israel and Egypt, which created some level of normality between Israel and her Arab neighbours.

I think this book is brave for challenging conventional wisdom and doing so can bring on the ire of pro-Israeli groups. Carter wrote this book, since he is looking for a legacy and given his age he is less concerned about playing safe politics. He challenges people to look past conventional political wisdom which is unable to bring peace to the Middle-East.

I highly recommend this book along with a novel by Morrison and Singh called NEXUS, which is a story about finding inner peace and compassion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful account, 10 Mar. 2007
A powerful masterpiece of events we should never forget. It is an autobiographical account of the author's survival as a teenager in the Nazi death camps. It is a horrific account, yet important to recall as testimony to the extremes racist thinking can lead. We need to remember this brutality to ensure that humanity learns important lessons. I recommend this book and also suggest checking out "Nexus" by Morrison & Singh - a novel about how we are united through our empathy and compassion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Follow your dreams, 10 Mar. 2007
Dreams, symbols, sings and adventure abound in this mystical novel. When we follow our dreams then we live close to God. The message in this book is both simple and beautiful.

"The Alchemist" tells the story of Santiago, a boy who has a dream and the courage to follow it. Signs reveal greater purpose and he listens to them on his journey.

Another novel by Deborah Morrison & Arvind Singh also points out the importance of following your dreams. Logan Andrews, a journalist, is depressed and suicidal and in a dream he's guided by a teacher to a retreat and like Santiago he also listens to his dream.

Both books made me recognize that life is not merely about living - it is about fulfilling a higher purpose.
