I first heard these boys singing on You Tube and wondered What is this? Then I found that they had made an album and played the sample tracks. Although I don't know what they are singing about, anyone who can yodel gets top marks from me. This goes back to the days of Frank Ifield and She Taught Me To Yodel. Lisa Stoll adds that extra something, making this a must have for anyone who likes Swiss music. Using an Alpine horn, she plays several tunes on it, something I would never have thought possible. This CD is worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars The essential reading for teenagers., 31 Aug. 2013

This is a book that all boys and girls should have from the age of eleven. It tells of personal cleanliness for boys and gives tips for toilet management, (weeing). All the embarrassing topics are talked about, something that all boys should know but no one tells them.
Girls get good advice too., but not being female, I will not comment further.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the John Thaw treats, 26 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I saw Home To Roost when it was first broadcast on television all those years ago. It has stood the test of time well and has not lost any of it's sparkle. The combination of John Thaw and Reese Dinsdale as father and "long lost son" is a paring with chemistry between the two as good as it can possibly be. All of John Thaw's acting was top drawer and teaming him up with Reese Dinsdale could not have been bettered. The humour is first rate and if anyone has not seen this series first time round, you are in for a real treat. Highly recommended. Don't wait a minute longer. If you are a John Thaw fan, buy the series today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gereat Expectations, the definitive version., 25 Feb. 2012

There are many versions of this Dickens classic story, but this one with Stratford Johns as Magwitch is the best. The contrast between the country dwelling of the blacksmith and Pip's London residence is well portrayed. How strange it was to find the boy in Miss Haversham's house that Pip fought with should turn out to be his good friend in London and that Mr Jaggers knew both Miss Haversham and Magwitch.

This is a double sided disc with episodes 1 to 6 on one side and 7 to 12 on the other. I watched it two episodes at a time because it is a long series. Very good value for money. The only trouble is that it is a Region 1 disc. Region 2 would be better and reach a wider audience, but if you have a multi-region player, then this is not a problem.

Dickens fans will be aware of the story, so any more words would be wasted. If you do not like Dickens novels, then you don't know that you are missing out on many great stories.

If you like the F Word, then this is for you. For a school child to use this word with such frequency is apalling. Don't waste your money on such trash.

5.0 out of 5 stars The King archive, 30 Dec. 2010

Gordon King's books were used by radio and tv engineers in the days when these sets could still be repaired in a radio and tv retailer's workshop as opposed to just having new panels fitted.

These books will remind enthusiasts like me of what it used to be like to bring something back to life with just a handful of components instead of integrated circuits that are just "a little black thing with loads of legs".

All GJK's books are packed with information ranging from using a 'scope to understanding what went on in all manner of electronic circuits. Some might look upon these books as out dated, but one and one still make two. They still have a place on my book shelves and always will. If you see one of these books, don't hesitate, snaffle it straight away.

4.0 out of 5 stars When buses were buses., 30 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I come from an age when a bus looked like a bus and sounded like one. For me, buses had a special sound and each batch had it's own "voice". One batch in particular, the Bristol GWXers, had a deep throaty sound when they drew away from a bus stop. This was even more of a roar when accelerating away and the exhaust echoed from the houses in the street as the sound died away. Mad? Yes, but that sound will stay with me for all time.
In those days, all buses were half cabs and had a smell all of their own. They were coach built and had comfortable seats.

It's nice to see alot of these old ladies restored to their former glory and top marks to their restorers. They do a grand job. This DVD is a must for anyone interested in the buses of yesteryear.

All that I can say about this album is that it is still in its shrink-wrap. I haven't played it because it could detract from it's value. The sleeve illustration is the original, non pc offering, that is to say that Paul McCartney is holding a cigarette. This is the main reason for buying the LP. In later versions, I am led to believe that the ciggy has been photoshopped out. I know that this isn't much of a review, but the fact is, other Beatles fans won't need reminding of what is on this disc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Telstar as raw as you would never believe., 6 Feb. 2010

This review is from: Telstar [DVD] (DVD)
I have always enjoyed listening to the record and when it was first issued, David Jacobs, the Juke Box Jury chairman, did not like it at all. Juke Box Jury was a weekly TV programme where six newly released records were played to a panel of four music world celebs. Each one gave an opinion on each of the records. They would vote it "Hit" or "Miss", then go on to another disc until the end of the show. Sounds boring now, but in those days, it wasn't that bad.

Telstar the film has not shied away from what went off at Joe Meek's make-shift studio. It was un beleivable what he did with what today would be regarded as basic in the extreme. At the time, though, it was quality gear. Anyone who knows about the mixers and tape recorders he used would be suitably impressed. I know I was. This was making records on a shoestring budget.
Despite hostilities from the neighbours, he kept on recording sound tracks and getting them on disc. Anyone who gets this DVD will learn alot about improvisation. That is the best description of his work, but the end result was always a million miles away from what was heard in the building.

Don't miss out on this release. It is an education and is strongly recommended. Let this one get away and you will have missed one of the greatest stories ever told.
