5.0 out of 5 stars 3rd time lucky!, 29 Jun 2010
This review is from: Emma [DVD] (DVD)
When this came out, I thought surely not another version, as there ARE already two others! But this is an excellent depiction of Emma, by far the best of the three! The BBC obviously felt that it was worth doing another adaption possibly because the other two do not quite capture the character! In this one, however, the lead actress's performance is superb, she really nails the part - she is engaging, witty and intelligent. The rest of the actors are cast well too, there's an all-round authenticity this time and the story is told beautifully. My advice if you haven't watched Emma, buy this and forget about the predecessors!

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning album, 3 Jan 2009
This review is from: Storm (Audio CD)
The first three songs on the album lure you in with the refreshingly simple, melodic sound of an artist at his peak. Overall the album has a serenety and beauty that grows after every listen. If like me, you will find yourself searching out all his other material as there is a real uniqueness to the Fernando Ortega sound and it never fails to relax, inspire and entertain me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my cuppa tea!, 6 Dec 2008
This review is from: Lost in Austen [DVD] (2008) (DVD)
I thoroughly enjoy settling down to enjoy a good period piece on TV, and really tried to enjoy this too, but failed on each of three attempts! I realize that it is meant to be original and funny, but it just irritated the hell out of me! The lead character was no doubt meant to not fit in to the time period, but I found the whole concept did not work for me and was tedious to watch, or rather endure. Each time I lasted about 10/15 mins, then it was, "This is ridiculous and irritating, let's watch something else." I certainly didn't get lost, I found the whole experience nauseating!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Period drama at its best!, 3 Dec 2007
This review is from: Cranford [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
The thing I love about Cranford is that it gives you a valuable insight into the lives of a whole cross section of society from the struggling working class to the aristocracy and everything inbetween. This is very rare as most period dramas would tend to focus on just one main family or storyline, but here you have various characters, families and friends from all walks of life and each of them fascinating in their own way. The scenes and costumes are raw and realistic, the acting outstanding, transporting you into their lives and situations. It is period drama in the best sense of the word as there is a fair dose of tragedy and sadness. This however, is well balanced by some very humorous portrayals and scenarios, as well as some wonderful romances and the joy of life in the Cranford community! All in all, a very worthwhile purchase with a magnificent cast and brilliant depiction of how life used to be in England!
