First of all, contrary to the title THIS IS NOT a book for beginners.
It is actually an A level chemistry book, which is a very advanced level of chemistry.
If you know nothing about chemistry do not waste your money on this text as it will have you tearing your hair out.
However if you already know the basics of chemistry then this is a reasonably good book. Which explains things such as functional groups and multi step synthesis reasonably well.
There is a decent size glossary in the back and lots of tips to help you remember various things.
In summary this is a fairly good book on a very tough subject but as stated it is really not suited to beginners newcomers may want to consider - Essentials of Organic Chemistry: For Students of Pharmacy, Medicinal Chemistry and Biological Chemistry
