5.0 out of 5 stars Brief Lives by Paul Johnson, 4 Sep 2011
This review is from: Brief Lives (Paperback)
Another brilliant well written book for the library. In my opinion with a few exceptions, Mr Johnson presents the 1920s to the present UK establishment people, of his known aquaintance, as priviliged underachievers, something I have suspected for years, but it is reassuring to learn that such an eminent and respected Historian, Journalist and Writer is of the same opinion.

A gem of TV, clean family comedy at it's best.

Be careful fans, anything to do with Ernie could have a hidden scam, even now!

Enjoy, thanks to the USA for this, your very best of international entertainment.

If you like your LvB symphonies played with metronome precision and orchestrated predicability, then these recordings are not for you.
The RLPO and Sir Charles have produced a magnificent series, I believe just what LvB would have wanted, you will never 'nod off' listening to these interpretations.
Every forte is a big/big sound, the tempo are usually very aggressive, the crescendi/diminuendi are beautifully controlled and the ensemble melodic lines are played in complete unison.
An excellent series by this excellent UK Orchestra,
