5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 22 Aug 2009
Saw this in a mini cinema. I was enthralled for the entire film, which i believe is almost 2 hours long. The film portrays Beethoven's character very well with a fitting mix of tragic, comic, outrageous and inspiring scenes. Contempary sources such as letters to and from Beethoven are coupled with interviews with modern day top-level conducters and performers to give a well rounded look at this extraordinary man from many perspectives. And of course, the best thing of all is that throughout there are many snippets of Beethoven's music, and in my book thats a good enough reason in itself to watch a film.

Highly recommended.

Kingdom Of Heaven - Definitive Edition [DVD]
Kingdom Of Heaven - Definitive Edition [DVD]
Dvd ~ Orlando Bloom

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 9 July 2009
The original version of this blew me away, and the director's cut is even better. Ridley Scott delivers another masterpiece which, in my opinion, supercedes even Gladiator.

Wonderful acting, wonderful cinematography, epic battle scenes and raw cliche-less romance all come together to make a great film which i can watch over and over again.

The director's cut adds overtures and an interval which really give it an epic, cinema feel, aswell as adding many intersting and a few vital scenes. I do wonder why they cut most of the eva green storyline out of the original, it's one of the best subplots of the film!

Finally, and in my opinion most importantly, this film contains many moral lessons, and parrallels can easily be drawn to conflicts today in areas like iraq and israel. It shows how we often fight over the most trivial things, and how a few individuals can cause the most hiddeous conflicts by their warmongering.

So, great film, great message, it will stick with you for a long time. 5 stars, one of my favourites.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful, 1 April 2009
Ive never been a huge bond fan. But one thing i never thought id say is that i was BORED during the film. Bored during Bond? Rediculous, surely! Not with this one. It really is dreadful. The first time i watched it i was rather perplexed, i hadnt understood the storyline, and reading other reviews makes me think that there actually isnt one. I decided to watch it a second time, to give it the benefit of the doubt. For half an hour i put up with the non-stop, badly shot, story-line-less action scenes. Then i switched off. My head hurt, i had been trying to figure out what the plot was since the first scene, while being bombarded with noisey, flashy action scenes which were obviously trying to cover up the fact that the storyline is non existant. Id had enough.

It appears the directors have decided to modernise Bond. They have tried to turn him into a cold killer, a bit like Jason Bourne, but they have failed miserably. Whereas bourne has interesting characters who you can relate to, a suspensful plot and great fight scenes, Quantum just reeks of a huge budget which has been spent on quantity not quality. Lots of great explosions, no substance.

If they carry on making Bond films like this, the franchise is dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars So its different - get over it!, 25 Nov 2008
This review is from: Day & Age (Audio CD)
Firstly, im just going to have a little moan. I can't comprehend why people say things like "its not like their first album so i dont like it"... well of course it isnt! Why the hell would you want 3 albums that sound exactly the same? The killers have produced 3 (4 if you count sawdust) extremely individual and varied albums, each of which is intersting in its own way. The one thing that links them all is the superb quality of the music. So please, be a little more open minded, and you might realise that Day & Age is another brilliant album, and that the fact that it is different shows how diverse the Killers are, and what excellent musicians they are!

Now, Day & Age. Well i had heard the singles before i bought the album, and i was worried that the rest of the album might not live up to them. But i was wrong. Every song on this album packs a punch, and they are all different. The killers explore a huge variety of sounds in their newest album, and i love it. Its like listening to a symphony. From the catchy up beats like "Spaceman", "Neon Tiger" and "Losing touch" to the sombre and powerful "Good night, Travel well" (inspired by the death of Keuning's mother, i believe). Theres also some really cool new sounds... just listen to the first 10 seconds of "this is your life" or "joy ride" and you'll know what i mean. The Sam's Town-esque "A Dustland Fairytale" is an instant winner, and the pumping bassline of "I can't stay" is awesome. And listen out for the harp! :D

Oh, and unfortunately Itunes stole the rights for the bonus track "Forget about what i said", which is one of the best, so make sure you give that a listen on youtube or something!

If i could have given this album 100/100 i would have.

Hoorah for The Killers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nearly brilliant but a very odd age rating, 24 Aug 2008
This is a great film, but its a shame that the directors got greedy and tried to make it suitable for under 15's to make more money. Now the film teeters between an unrealisticly un-violent 15 and a very violent 12. By this i mean, there is a lot of violence but it is pretty unrealistic. for instance in one scene batman is beating up the joker, and yet the joker is not bleeding, has no broken nose or anything like that, which you would certainly get if a guy as strong as batman was hitting you repeatedly in the face. And yet there is still a lot of violence, lots of people dying in the background, lots of explosions etc. all this will do is have a bad influence on the younger viewers, the lack of gore will make them think that violence and hurting people is nothing serious, and just a game. Also, the sadistic humour of the joker that makes this film so good will not be understood by youg viewers; again they will see violence and killing as something funny.

so yer, its a good film and i thouroughly enjoyed it, but it is not suitbale for 12 year olds in my opinion

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply stunning, 23 Jun 2008
This review is from: The Prestige [DVD] [2006] (DVD)
I realise that this is the 105th review, so ill keep it short.

This film is one of the most exciting, interesting and confusing films i have ever seen. you spend your whole time trying to piece together the puzzle, which comes in little bits as flashbacks. Then at the end the mian plot is revealed, but you just dont feel fulfilled until you have watched it a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th time just to make sure you understand everything.

Having said this, at no point in time was i bored or frustrated with the film, it keeps you thinking and on the edge of your seat, but without being tedious.

A must watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful collection of classical music i've ever heard, 19 April 2008
This review is from: Karajan - Adagio 2 (Audio CD)
This is simply beautiful. A must buy for anybody who likes the more solemn, sad wing of classical music.

I listen to this all the time and every track is pure genius.

If i had to name a favourite track i would say track 5 and track 11.

Buy it!

superb album, in flames have somehow managed to make their death metal style screaming catchy at the same time.
Tracks to look out for:
*Borders and shading*
Evil in a closet
In search for I
My sweet shadow
*The quiet place*
All the above blew my mind, i hope they do the same for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent album, 12 Mar 2008
This review is from: I-Empire (Audio CD)
Firstly id like to say that im normally a hard rock/ metal guy so 4 stars from me is actually quite a feat for a band that plays this kind of music. This is a really easy listning album, switch it on and drift in and out of the music. Some good lyrics and a nice mix of guitars and wierd synth effects give it a nice all-round sound.

Now the tracks:
Call to arms: [10] What a start, this is one of the best songs on here, great all rounder.

Everythings magic: [9] Another great song, catchy chorus.

Breathe: [6] A bit flat in my opinion, didnt make me want to listen again.

Love like rockets: [7] Starts interestingly with a nice long intro, verses are decent but not my favourite chorus.

Sirens: [7] Sice to hear some normal guitar at the beginning but as usual it doesnt last long before its joined by some irritating honking synth noise. Still, a strong vocal performance in this one, Average chorus.

Secret crowds: [10] By far outshines all other tracks, other than "Call to arms", this is superb. You'll find yourself singing the chorus "Let me feel you, carry you higher, Watch our words spread hope like fire." over and over again. Perfection.

Star of bethlehem and True love: [7] Come as a pair, star of Bethlehem is simply a very long intro for true love. Mixed feelings towards this one. Although its a nice idea, i think that angels and airwaves have tried to imitate Muse a bit here and have sadly failed. Where as muse's songs change and adapt the whole time, a bit like a classical symphony, star of bethlehem is the same riff over and over again with almost no changes. Having said this, true love's main theme is pretty catchy so maybe just skip star of Bethlehem!

Lifeline: [9] Great, soft melodic song. very subtle instrumentals allow the vocals to shine through.

Jumping rooftops: [4] A bit pointless, 46 second track with no singing and the same riff repeated about 20 times. Maybe the band got a bit bored or something.

Rite of Spring: [9] Another great one, superb lyrics in the verses and a catchy chorus. One of those ones that you'll want to listen to again and again.

Heaven: [7] A soft ending to the album, plods along a bit,not the best and not the worst.
