5.0 out of 5 stars Don't dismiss it, 10 Mar 2003
This review is from: Dookie (Audio CD)
I don't like many punk bands/records, but even if you don't you should beg/borrow/buy/steal a copy of dookie. This record really is full of great tunes, beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific, 6 Jan 2003
First of all, the original cast audio tape doesn't do it justice. A lot of dialogue is missing and (despite what it says on amazon) so is every movies a circus, in fact its replace with a different song, strangely enough.
This is the audio cd version, the american recordings. First of all I have to say everyone in this cast makes the lyrics a lot more coherent than in the previous pertula clark and co, although they did a good job. Originally I saw the show with Glenn Close so it brings back memories just to hear her sing these songs again and she's as terrific on stage as she is on cd.
It's a brilliant show, it translates well to CD, although obviousely nothing can beat the live thing. My only complaint is that there is always too much reverb on the vocals of these recorded versions. I'm sure this is to recreate the space of a theatre but to be honest by the time you get an audience in there a lot of that is taken away from the sound as it travels straight to their ears. Singing in an empty theatre and a full theatre gives a completely different sound and the amount of reverb on the vocals seems to recreate an empty theatre, but thats a minor niggle, it's still a brilliant translation to CD even if it doesn't perfectly represent the live sound. Great cast, great musical, full dialogue, coherent singing and acting.

4.0 out of 5 stars great christmas film, generally very entertaining, 7 Dec 2002
This review is from: The Grinch [DVD] [2000] (DVD)
The role of the grinch, a little crazy, a little creepy even a little schitzophrenic definately suits carrey. You plainly know its carrey because of the way he acts, he does a great job. The sets and the computer graphics meld together perfectly and look gorgeous, creating a sort of cartoon-esque look for the film.
So....why not five stars? It takes a lot for me to deem 5 stars really, the only thing I didn't like was that it felt a little long , even if it was entertaining to the end. Maybe I was just expecting the end to come earlier and should watch it again.
One last thing, it is funny, one scene that made me laugh quite a lot was when Jim Carrey sucked the cat up his presents vaccuum, but I wont give too much away, Jim definately is stealing the show here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, 10 Nov 2002
This review is from: Bloodlines [1997] [DVD] (DVD)
Ok so maybe its not one of the very welllllll known horror films and it is new after all but i think its an interesting one and its done in a much more subtle way, in many ways its much more of a who dunnit film , its about a true story of a man called Lord Lucan , who supposedly killed his wifes nanny and brutally beat his wife and fled, this film delves deeper into the story and unravels more and more about this murder, was Lord Lucan even the murderor? He had in a drunk conversation bowed that the answer to his problems were to rid of her, but other evidence suggests otherwise since lucan was sqeaumish and why wouldnt he have finished the job? All the answers are revealed and it is indeed a very interesting story........ definately worth a watch and also, i think, worth buying

3.0 out of 5 stars Its alright, 10 Aug 2002
This review is from: By the Way (Audio CD)
If youve heard the previous album californication, it seems theyre trying to go in a similar direction, with less funk songs, only really two on this album, by the way and dont stop. This is the problem, theyve tried to continue in a similar way and yet the style they tryed in the last album worked very well and they made songs in that style the best they could.....so really they should have just left it and moved into a totally different style, i thought this album would be back in the direction of earlier funkier albums from the title track, but after that song it seems to just be very mellow, im not saying the songs are bad, or the album is bad, its alright, but it continues in a similar way to californication , which was an unbelieveable album and by the way fails to be better than it or to sit along side it.
