5.0 out of 5 stars Solar powered shed light, 18 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have not needed the whole 5 metres, but stuck along the apex of my shed roof, this strip gives a good diffused light that is totally adequate for finding things, sorting things, packing things and generaly doing shed stuff. I run it off a 12V VRSLA battery, charged by a solar panel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant album - Dr John at his best, 15 Oct. 2012

This review is from: Locked Down (Audio CD)
Having a number of Dr John's albums, when I spotted this new one on his website, a play of the sample track - Revolution - was a must. I was immediately hooked. A fine, balanced sound. I have only heard this quality of music previously from the good Doctor when he worked with the late Wardell Quezergue. If you don't know Dr John's music, this would be a very good place to start. Then move on to "N'Awlinz - Dis Dat Or D'Udda" for a great range of different styles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rhythm & Blues & Boogie, 20 Jan. 2009

You may be hard pushed to get a copy of this double album at a sensible price - it took me months of looking and cancelled orders - but it was worth it in the end. British artists playing American style music with an undisguised passion. Bob Hall's piano playing is excellent as one would expect from such a sought after musician. Dave Peabody continues to be the master of the guitar - first heard by me at a folk club in the late 1970s and never forgotten! A good variety of styles that keep you interested all the way through. Only marred by the last track on the second album that is cruelly cut off short, presumably running out of disc space!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you wonder at the reverence - look no further., 20 Jan. 2009

This review is from: The Anthology (Audio CD)
This album gives a broad review of Muddy's music across the years, including all the greatest songs. You will realise why so many people have used his music and built on his style to such great effect once you have heard this collection. The blurb that comes with it gives his story and explains why some of his earliest recordings with Chess were so bare, and how he would leave the recording session to go and play as he wanted. Treat yourself - you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant combination of two masters, 16 Dec. 2008

This review is from: Two Trains Running (Audio CD)
This album has a good spread of styles within the blues genre - from the slower end to the more up-beat. Brendan plays a solo - Digeriblues - of his own composition which leaves you wondering how he actually manages to breath at the same time! Dave's solo is an instrumental version of Son House's Pearline, well executed as ever.

Playing together, they are an excellent duo and will leave you with a warm glow inside and thinking - "That was good - I am glad I bought it!"

5.0 out of 5 stars What they didn't teach you at school!, 22 Nov. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After reading the excellent Seeds of Change: Six Plants That Transformed Mankind and Seeds of Wealth: Five Plants That Made Men Rich, this was a "must-buy". Henry Hobhouse presents a view of the last 500 years of history and how it was shaped by three natural forces: population growth, food supply and disease. Thoroughly researched with notes at the back to explain some points further without necessarily interrupting the flow of the main narrative, this will get you gripped.

Dueting with four different artists keeps the music fresh throughout the album. As always, Dave sounds like he is enjoying himself on these tracks, and you will enjoy listening to them. Some heavy, some light, some happy, some sad, but all good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boogie piano at it's best, 16 July 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: At the Window (Audio CD)
A British pianist who has performed on over 100 albums with some of the biggest names in R&B. Pianist with the Blues Band - say no more! On this album variously accompanied by Dave Peabody, Top Topham and Robert Bond. A good mix of boogie and blues, very easy to listen to. 8 of the original 13 tracks are self penned. The extra 5 tracks are live classics.
