5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable, 30 July 2014

So much in here, all packed in, it'll make your head spin. But it is all presented with meticulous clarity, it has made sense of lots of things I've previously read and not found entirely intelligible, and put them all into context too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good content, shame about the writing and the design, 6 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was recommended to read this book. The content is good, if only someone had helped the authors to write it better. I found it patronising and turgid in style.
However, the worst thing about it is the text design, after the okay cover, the text design is a crime against publishing. For a book that is intended for designers and artists (i.e. people with a good degree of visual intelligence) the typography is truly hideous. Even more than the poor writing style this makes it unreadable. Shame really.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, 6 Sep 2013

Sheer unabashed joy to listen to. Deserves to be so much more widely appreciated. If you can listen to it without feeling the need to dance, it probably means you're dead.
Detailed notes too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent and enjoyable to listen to, 6 Sep 2013

I get the impression as I listen to this that I can hear a thought process. The music might seem to wander, and it isn't in a hurry, but it has an objective and enjoys its contemplative journey getting there.

This is the only thing by Tiny Yong I've ever heard, but it's superb, exactly what you'd expect of a French early 60s female pop singer. Now I have to get more of Tiny ...

4.0 out of 5 stars for completists, 11 Mar 2013

Most of these songs are available in better performances on other CDs, for serious fans of early Gainsbourg this is probably essential, but the casual listener would probably do better to buy other Gainsbourg CDs.

2.0 out of 5 stars flimsy, 11 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It does the job but it's very flimsy, I doubt it will have a long life. Because it is so lightweight, and because the legs don't open quite as wide as in the photo, it gets top-heavy when you put an iphone in it. All of the tripods I could find seemed to be equally rubbishy, I'd have happily paid a bit more for something better made.

3.0 out of 5 stars the down comes out, 14 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This jacket is light and warm and comfortable. However, the down filling is continuously escaping from the jacket, I thought it would stop after I'd been wearing the jacket for a while but it hasn't - I take the jacket off and whatever I'm wearing under it is covered in bits of white feather, it's not a look I care for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blossom the pianist, 13 Jan 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Pianist (Audio CD)
This is a reissue of what was, I understand, Blossom's first album. On it she plays the piano but doesn't sing. Her piano playing (as you may have noticed on the albums on which she plays piano and sings) is deceptively light: it is beautiful and with an intimacy and lightness of touch, but somehow always exactly right; it's not grand or melodramatic, it's like she's playing the piano for a friend. There are additional tracks from Les Blue Stars, the vocal group that Blossom started while she was in Paris, the tracks are enjoyable and I'm glad they were included here, but it's for Blossom the pianist that this is worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A acquired taste, 13 Jan 2013

Anne-James Chaton apparently makes his work by selecting fragments of text, recording himself speaking them, and then chopping up the recording, repeating fragments and layering them. I find the results make compelling and satisfying listening, but I suspect that I'm in the minority and most people would find listening to this akin to torture.
