4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money headphones, 26 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The headphones come in a sturdy headphone shaped rubber style case designed for their shape and not flattened out like many others. The flex and jacks are sturdy and durable and this makes for an attractive product.

The sound is clear, rounded and detailed and the headphones are comfortable to wear. They are passive noise cancelling and as such, with the volume raised you hear very little extraneous noise. However, if like me, you play music that does not have to be particularly loud then you will hear some extraneous noise at lower levels.

All in all these are excellent value for money and can be recommended to prospective purchasers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the label! Excellent, 7 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have not used Vanish before, but faced with a pile of less than white socks etc, I decided to give it a try. Having soaked the clothes following the simple instructions and then washing at 40 degrees, I was amazed by the improvement in the colour. Most of items were significantly brighter after the first wash and even more so after the second. On the items which had bands of brighter colours, there was no discernible fading and they too came out looking brighter than before.

This is certainly a product I will use often.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super spice rack for the small kitchen, 7 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This compact but sturdy rack is ideal for the smaller kitchen. Cole & Mason present six different spices in strong glass bottles with twisting caps which allow for two different size of holes to shake the spices through. It is neat, well made, and very useful.

Highly recommended

Fast Cooking: Really Exciting Recipes in 20 Minutes
Fast Cooking: Really Exciting Recipes in 20 Minutes
by James Martin
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 9.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent recipe book of fast cooking, 7 Dec 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The thing that I really like about the recipes in this book is that they are for the most part small in the number of ingredients used, simple to prepare and unlikely to break the family budget. James Martin concentrates his considerable skills in presenting recipes that are extremely simple to prepare but guaranteed to taste good.

I tried several of the fish and chicken recipes and found the timings given to be basically correct and the results very tasty indeed. With the usual plethora of cook books around at this time of year, this one can happily stick its head above the parapet as something worthwhile and special

Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing production of Les Troyens from Covent Garden, 7 Dec 2013
There was much initial excitement about this production which originally was to have Jonas Kaufmann as Enee. In the theatre the old adage that less is more had been thrown out the window and thousands upon thousands of pounds had been lavished unnecessarily on a spectacle that was more irritating than satisfying. Had the excesses of the production been balanced by excellent singing then that might have helped but the unfocussed Cassandra of Antonacci got things off to a bad start. Hymel and Westbroeck were very fine as Enee and Didon, but ultimately the production sank under the weight of its excess. The Blu Ray is crystal clear and the sound is excellent. Those wishing a simpler and to my mind finer production should look for the Chatelet production which has an excellent cast including Susan Graham as a superb Didon, also available on Blu Ray. Afficionados of this great opera may also hope that the recent excellent production at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin may find its way to DVD. There was a case of simplicity producing fantastic results and , Covent Garden please note, at much smaller cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable dictionary of Christian Art & Architecture, 13 Nov 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This excellent volume brings together in one volume a marvelous cross section of religious and artistic information. With entries covering saints, artists, symbolism, artistic movements and religious events, this is a most useful guide for anyone with an interest in Religious art and architecture. I found this book an excellent guide when studying early renaissance paintings, where the appearance on the canvas of a bird or particular flower or shrub can be decipherable by a quick dip into the appropriate entry.

This new edition also includes useful web links for those who wish to delve further. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent footcare aid, 5 Nov 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
If you suffer from hardskin on the ankle and elswhere on the foot, this product is a real find. I used it and within minutes the hard skin was removed without having to resort to blades which all to often can cause damage. The result was most impressive and left my feet ready for a quick treatment of foot cream to make them smooth.

This is an excellent, easy to use pedicure treatment, which i can highly recommend.

Games Without Rules
Games Without Rules
by Tamim Ansary
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 17.09

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read history in colloquial style, 5 Nov 2013
This review is from: Games Without Rules (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Tamim Ansary has written an interesting and informative account of Afghan history with an insiders knowledge, which is to be welcomed. His style is colloquial and easy to read, though sometimes this easy manner irritates as when he asks the reader to leave some salient fact to his imagination. Imagination is a useful tool in the art of the novel, but where facts are concerned is less so. Nevertheless, Ansary is very good at producing the most useful facts and melding them into a straightforward history, which, while it may lack depth, is ideal for the reader who wants an overall picture without too much detail.

Readers who wish more substance with regard to the history of "The Great Game", will be well advised to turn directly to Peter Hopkirk's fully researched and in depth account. However, those who want a shorter more succinct history covering a longer historical period can find much to enjoy in this interesting volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous book full of info and expletives, held together with scholarly wit, 16 Oct 2013
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Melissa Mohr has produced a marvellous volume in this brief history. Her research is thorough and her results both highly amusing on the one hand and richly informative on the other. The book covers swearing in terms of foul language as well as swearing as in oaths of fealty etc, and is tremendously well written. I found an enormous amount of information new to me and I can unreservedly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the subjects covered here.
