Antinoo. Il fascino della bellezza. Catalogo della mostra (Tivoli, 4 aprile-4 novembre 2012)
Antinoo. Il fascino della bellezza. Catalogo della mostra (Tivoli, 4 aprile-4 novembre 2012)
by M. Sapelli Ragni
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars If only this was in English!!, 25 Dec 2012
This beautifully produced book was published to support a special exhibition about Antinoos held at Hadrian's Villa outside Rome in 2012.

The book brings together a wide selection of photographs of different representations of Antinoos in collections around the world many of which were included in this temporary exhibition. Accompanying the photographs are a number of articles which document and explore the story of Antinoos from the perspectives of history, archeology and art history.

For anyone interested in the story of Antinoos and Hadrian or in the impact the images of Antinoos, Hadrian commissioned following his death, have had on the history of art this is a really wonderful book.

It is a great pity it was only made available in Italian as this does limit the audience that could enjoy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good low budget pic, 10 Jun 2011
This review is from: Children of God [DVD] (DVD)
Well I enjoyed it though the production values are very low, the acting is a bit stiff and awkward and the characters are all a bit 2D. Good to see films dealing with these issues coming out from the Carribean.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too long - too dull, 26 Mar 2011
A very worthy "comedy" with all the Gay PC boxes ticked. Story line is all over the place and at times it all feels a bit drawn out. Acting and dialogue wooden. Am sure Tony Slattery would want to forget this one. Probably best to buy when it hits 4.99 in the bargain basket. Nice to see some the famous late 80s/90s gay clubs in London.

Came across this by chance but now realise it is a French classic. The book wonderfully evokes the Roman empire of Hadrian and his passion for Antinous.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware, 8 April 2009
I have bought a number of titles in the Eurotalk range. As a way of doing very mechanical practice of vocabulary using a range of games these are very good. It will not help you develop much in terms of communication and the pronunciation exercises do not use software that can tell you how well or not you approximated to the pronunciation given.

This title is actually Egyptian Arabic. The title changed so it is also on Amazon and Egyptian Arabic. At this level Eurotalk also have modern standard and classical Arabic. At the other levels the differences between the different Arabics is not made clear which is annoying.

The latest version of Learn Arabic is "itunes/MP3 ready". This is very disappointing in Learn Arabic. The audio files have not been labled properly so you end up with lots of disconnected files all over the itunes music library and you then have to go in one by one and update the information to get the files in one place. "itunes/MP3 ready" actually means just lists of words with no English or other language equivalent so you know what they mean. I was really disappointed as I had assumed, given the packaging, that it meant the software would download and that the interactive games were going to work on my ipod.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant, 25 Jan 2009
One of my favourite Sunday afternoon movies! A bit old now but when you see some of the crud we are getting served by those flogging queer cinema it is good to know there are a few classics out there you can retreat to!

You need this in your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well I liked this one in spite of myself, 25 Jan 2009
All the usual problems you get with many gay movies - poor screenplay, wooden acting and a bit didatic at times. However, with a couple of glasses of red wine I was able to let all that wash pass me and just enjoyed it for what it was. Good wet Sunday afternoon cinema and Steve Sandvoss is a real find.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing but awesome - surely you mean nothing like awesome, 25 Jan 2009
If you liked the Golden Girls then you will probably enjoy this younger black gay version of it. Lot more eye candy than the GG's as you would expect from a cast of real hunks.

3.0 out of 5 stars And I would still go back to Caracas, 25 Jan 2009
This review is from: Secuestro Express [DVD] (DVD)
A really must see film for anyone who is thinking of going to Venezuela. Really is over the top but as the story is a collage of really stories it gives you an idea of the trouble you can get into. The side of the Bolivian revolution in Venezuela the Chavez government would prefer people not to see.

Excellent, and grimly funny, scenes with the kidnapped boyfriend and his gay drug dealer set in Caracas' famous love hotel Aladdin.
