2.0 out of 5 stars What plot?, 28 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I must cast my vote with those who say that there are no real plots in this series - merely cleverness for it's own sake. Rather than being new versions of the original stories, we now too many flashy distractions on screen and none of the detection that went on in the previous two series. Borrow a copy if you must see it but, it is not worth the price of admission. Perhaps we will be lucky and it will all be "just a dream" as result of Holmes' fall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Early versions of this cd contain the rare version of "Brown Eyed Girl", 5 Dec 2013
This review is from: TB Sheets (Audio CD)
The Columbia and Bellaphon versions of this album contain the edited/censored version of "Brown Eyed Girl" where "makin' love in the green grass behind the stadium" has been replaced by "laughin' and singin' behind the stadium". A small point perhaps but if you are a collector, then this seems to be the only place to get this "radio" version of the single.

As for the album, it still holds up after all these years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great to see these in print again..., 25 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very nice package that puts together the Warner Bros. era albums and the best Badfinger live album that has been released. The only reason that I do not rate the set more highly is that it leaves off one of the tracks from the original live cd ("Come and get it" from Top of the Pops).

2.0 out of 5 stars More of a curiosity than anything else, 28 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Beatles fans may want to purchase this item because, due to copyright law (these tracks are now "public domain"), we get to hear the Beatles Hamburg studio sessions (not all these track actually feature The Beatles)along with their first "real" group single. Inresting but not an essential purchase as the same effect can be achieved on a home compuer.

2.0 out of 5 stars The title should have been a clue..., 18 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This appears to be a cdr with with a home made cover (no liner notes - blank inside) and a home printed cd tray liner (which seems to be hand trimmed). The company is "Berne Convention Records" with copyright apparently assigned to King Size Taylor (and "Made in Hamburg").

The track listing is essentially that of the original Japanese cd ("Overseas Records") with some shuffling of the order and minus "Hully Gully" and identical to that of the Lingasong 2 cd set (this "new" set has the extra songs found on the Japanese cd:"Where have you been..." and "I remember you").

UPDATE:
The sound quality is the same as both of the cds listed above (listenable given the circumstances of the original recording). My cdr had a problem with "crackling" noises on track 10 ("Besame Mucho").
Still it is a fascinating part of Beatles history.

1.0 out of 5 stars Naff doesn't quite describe it..., 27 Mar 2013
This album tries hard to disprove the cliche that it is hard to ruin a good song. It has the same charm as a drunken pub sing-a-long. Still, a worthwhile charity shop purchase for the curious.

2.0 out of 5 stars The fans deserve much more than this..., 26 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I must add my voice to those who say that this release isn't really worth the money. A large book with very little of interest in it (including blank pages)along with tracks previously available on bootlegs (IBC and BBC sessions) in similar (if not the same)quality. The previously released tracks sound no better than the last compilation. Some of the tracks appear in edited single versions (e.g. "You can't always get what you want") for which there is no notation on the outside listing).

The 3cd version seems to be a much better buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great listening and an easy way to get a copy of a promo radio show!, 3 Aug 2012

This review is from: Angels At My Shoulder (Audio CD)
As the other reviewers have said, this is a great cd. The first eight tracks are taken from an official CBS promo cd entitled "The Columbia Records Radio Hour Presents - LEONARD COHEN LIVE! From The Complex Los Angeles, Calif April 18, 1993 (CSK 5249 SI)."

2.0 out of 5 stars Great music - terrible cd, 17 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The music on this album represents Dylan at his "folkie" peak. A great selection of songs performed well. The only problem is that there is a terrible bass hum that runs through the whole of the cd. This can be removed by playing with an equalizer but, it does spoil the experience. The other, similar, cd available does not suffer from this problem.

A word on the other comments. I am not confusing the various releases (I own all of them). Note that I say "similar" not "identical". The music on this cd is very good (see above). The potential buyer needs to be aware of the problems with the sound.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice to have but, not the best of the live 1968 releases, 24 Mar 2012
As always it is nice to have another Janis Joplin/Big Brother live recording (or in this case, it is really a Big Brother with Janis show).

The previous release "Live at Winterland, 1968" has much more going for it than this recording:

- more interesting selection of songs (including an early version of "Piece of my heart")
- easier to listen to mix (rather than the awkward mono/left/right mix of this album
- better booklet that includes a copy of handwritten material by Janis
- a great cover (the new one does not really look like Janis, as good as the art is)

If you are interested in earlier live material (1966/1967) try, the previous release,"Ball and Chain" by Big Brother & The Holding Company. This is a great listen, even if parts of it are not quite as well recorded. It includes "Amazing grace", where Janis and the band deconstruct the song and give us a mix of gospel/punk/psychedelia/rock and roll. There is nothing quite like it on this new release.

I would urge you to consider buying the "Live at Winterland" or "Ball and Chain" first (called "Lost Tapes" in North America)and then PERHAPS the "Carousel" show. The "Carousel" release is certainly not the place to start if you want prime early live Joplin.

A side note, the European release of "Ball and Chain" includes two cd rom videos.
