5.0 out of 5 stars Charming Christmas story, 23 Nov. 2012
A lovely short story all about Christmas. You can smell the mulled wine and mince pies as you're reading it. Thoroughly enjoyable and, as it says in the description, heart-warming. One for all the family. Cheers William!

5.0 out of 5 stars A sensational debut - DANCE to it!, 24 Sept. 2007
This review is from: The Album (Audio CD)
Damn this is good. I mean REALLY good. It's a corker of a debut from a band that have managed to capture much of the energy of their legendary live performances. Think a crazy indie carnival fusion of ska, dub, reggae, mariachi and gypsy punk.

This is a happy album, made for dancing and flailing about to. It has its more sombre moments, but overall the effect is that of a million shaken up cans of beer all opened at the same time. There's a lot of shouting and jumping around, and everyone gets wet... but it's a hell of a lot of fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing AND educational, 21 Dec. 2006
It's highly entertaining watching this modern day "odd couple" traipse around the vineyards of France during the summer of 2006. Respected wine "expert" Oz Clarke is attempting to educate enthusiastic wine consumer James May. The constant bickering and arguments (usually centred on Clarke's frustrations with May getting tanked at every opportunity) make for great viewing.

Along the way Clarke does well to impart a great deal of wine knowledge which is actually useful.

Well worth a watch, whether you're looking for some light entertainment, or an easy introduction to the complexities of French wine making.

5.0 out of 5 stars They've taken me over!, 7 Nov. 2006
This review is from: Fire! [7" VINYL] (Vinyl)
(NB: this is the same review as I did for the CD single. The only difference is this product comes in cool WHITE vinyl).

Having recently been signed by Jeepster (Snow Patrol, Belle & Sebastian) SixNationState have been gigging HARD for the last 8-12 months and are currently putting the finishing touches on a debut album, expected early 2007.

Fire! is the first single from the album and does just what it says on the tin. It could easily be the soundtrack to the bar brawl scene in a modern Western... directed by Tarantino, of course. If the thumping beat, howling vocals and furious guitar work don't light a fire in your belly, check your pulse. You're dead, partner. Although only just over two minutes long, you'll need the break to catch your breath before the first of the b-sides, Taking Me Over, does just that. Shoving a single angry digit up for anyone who's ever been in a less-than-equal partnership (haven't we all at some stage?) it's one of those "dance like there's nobody watching" tracks. The final track, Country Song, is allegedly about Dolly Parton's cruise missiles. It's a rocking good hoedown of a track, which takes the time to allow each of the band to show off their wares in a slightly more relaxed fashion than the first two tracks.

Bet you can't listen to it just once...

Bring on the album!
