4.0 out of 5 stars The Kingdom Come-Back!!, 3 Jan 2007
This review is from: Kingdom Come (Audio CD)
Since he retired, Jay-Z seems to have been doing more work than ever. It's no suprise then, that he's dropped a new album. Kingdom Come is by no means his best album, but I feel that it has been harshely reviewed.

Admitidly, it does have a few weak tracks, but it's still a quality album. And when was the last time you heard a completley perfect album?

Highlights include all the Dre tracks. Lost One has a brilliant beat, and it will get stuck in your head. 30 Something is the best track on the album, with the easily the best beat and Jay probably spitting some of the best verses on the album. Trouble is also insanly catchy, and Minority Reportis also a great track.

The Just Blaze tracks are also stand outs. Kingdom Come is probably the best of them but Oh my God and Show Me What You Got are also brilliant.

But there are two songs which completely spiolt the album for me, Anything and Hollywood. Anything has a horrible beat, and Hollywood is by far the worst on the album.

Overall Jay-Z is far from his best, and lets hope he dosent retire on this, because we know he can do so much better, lyrically his standards have slipped too, but he is still undeniably one of the best lyracists in hip hop today. But Kingdom Come is a brilliant album, which I definatly recomend, but dont expect to like it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compton's back on the map!, 4 Sep 2005
This review is from: The Documentary (Audio CD)
Just like Dr.Dre, the Game is coming straight outta Compton with a superb album!
The Documentary has to be the best hip-hop album of 2005 so far, and possibly the best since dre's 2001! Yep, its alot better than 50's 2005 effort (which was still quite good.)
The first 6 tracks on the album are the hits (or hits-to-be)- the best being higher-produced by Dre.
My favourite tracks are:
but every single track is superb!
With songs being produced by Dre, Kanye West, Timbaland and Eminem and songs featuring 50 Cent, Faith Evans, Tony Yayo, Eminem, Nate Dogg and Busta Rhymes could this album fail?
No, and it certianly hasn't.

Although I have two very minor problems. Why didn't do a track with Dr.Dre? A Game/Dre track would be class! And, on LIKE FATHER LIKE SON why didn't Busta Rhymes spit a verse? I think he is a great artist and to get him in just to do the chorous is not very good at all!
Overall though this is a 10/10 album! Buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Westwood!, 22 Aug 2005
This review is from: Westwood Heat Vol.9 (Audio CD)
This album rocks! There is loads of U.K hip-hop but loads of american too! In my opinion, the first disk is by far the best, with the second being mainly classics with 2pac and Snoop Doggy Dogg. But both are good. There is one thing about this CD that ruined it for me, Tim Westwood shouting over alot of the tracks. Especially as his voice is so annoying! That is the only problem i have with this CD! Other wise its superb!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly brilliant!, 19 Jun 2005
Firstly lets answer the answer the question on everyone lips, is it as good as, better, or worse than NFSU2, which is an exellent game itself.
Well, the answer, is yes. It is better. It's not like compairing GTA:San Andreas to the Heman game, but it is better.
Absolutly everything is better. In parts, only slightly better, but it's all better.
The handeling is better, the car selection, the customisation, the music, everything!
OK, so basically MC3 is set in 3 different cities: San Deigo, Atlanta, and Detroit. You play a newbee on the racing scene, and have to work your way up the ranks. The driving is very solid, but just a touch too twitchy. But there are certianly enough cars to keep you happy! Tuners, muscle, SUVs, Trucks, luxury sedans, super cars, choppers, sport bikes, everything you could dream of. There are Maclarens, lambroughini's, porches, everything that you've ever stopped to look at.
And the best thing is you have complete freedom to rip these cars apart, and then build the car of your dreams. Imagining 28inch spinning rims on a hummer lowered until it scrapes the floor, with pink flashing neon? Why not! The customisation options shove dynamite up NFS's ass and lock it in a submarine! There are limit less body, wheel, colour, vynal, everything options! Although sadly thuis game lacks the free-customise mode of NFS, so you cant just experement, cause it's gonna cost money.
The music selection is great, featuring an astounding selection of hip-hop, dance, drumnbass, rock and reggee.
My only problem with this game, is that it is very difficult, and sometimes unfair, but dont let that stop you from buying it! Class all-round!

4.0 out of 5 stars A massacare? Not so sure., 3 April 2005
50 must of had a few headaches wondering about how to follow up get rich or die tryin. And it shows. Although the massacre is a very good album, if falls flat alongside get rich or die tryin.
The album starts weakly with a less than amazing intro, and 2 weak album fillas, in my hood and this is 50. It picks up at IM SUPPOSED TO DIE TONIGHT with a slick beat and dope lyrics. Next is Piggy bank, the dis track you must of heard of. The chorous is chatchy, and 50 spits out disses to nas to fat joe to every1!
But this tune fails to be anything over average.
Next up is GATMAN AND ROBIN, a weak but catchy song feat. eminem. After this is CANDYSHOP, which you must of heard! Next are two pure class songs Outta controll and get in my car. Both these songs are great bagin tunes. Then there are two average, slower songs, BALTIMORE LOVE THING and RYDER MUSIC. Next is the club banger DISCO INFERNO, one of the best tracks. Next is Just a little bit, which is quite a good song, but not ground breaking. After this is my faverouite song on the whole disc, Gunz come out. This is an absolutly class song that everybody should hear. Then comes MY TOY SOLDIERS which is OK, but Tony Yayo so outshines 50 so badly. After this the album disolves into a clump of instantly forgettable slower songs.
This album has a strong scent of filla and has a lot of whack songs you'll want to skip through. The random gunfire and screams give completly the wrong message. Instead of making you think he's a real gangsta, you think, he's such a plastic gangsta.
But this album is definatly good. Its unquestionable that 50 has skill and style, and also this has nothing on get rich or die tryin, it a good album. 7/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily the best Will Smith Album out there!!!!, 3 April 2005
This review is from: Lost And Found (Audio CD)
If you can forget about Will Smiths "curse free, corny, childish raps" this can be a real piece of true hip-hop. Don't dis him cause o fit, just listen to the album. This is so much better than the likes of Willenium and his others.
The hit single "switch" is on here, and the RnB remix, and is a stand out track. Other stand outs are Party starter, tell me why, pump ya brakes and coming to the stage, but every single track is 100% listenable. There are some slower songs, but they are all brilliant. You really can just listen to this without even having to press the skip button once.
At times you kind of wish Will would use swear words to be like the "real" rappers, but his friendly style makes him unique. His rapping style has changed since his other albums, and sounds much better now.
And by the way, after song 17 ("we wont") has finished DO NOT STOP THE CD! If you notice it will continue running, and eventually another re-mix of Switch with elephant man comes on. This song has to be my favourite of the album, it's so great!
Last word: BUY IT!!!

OK lets tick the boxes.
Amazing, deep, engrossing story NOPE
Compeletely brillaint acting NOPE
Oscar worthy material NOPE
Original NOPE
Clever NOPE
Enjoyable? hell yes!
As you can see the bad boys films do not exactly set the world alight. They will win no oscars. But jesus christ are they enjoyable.
Both of these films absolutly dazzle. The action sequences are big, loud and brilliant. They are shot in an absolutly brilliant way, that really DRAGS you into the action. Both films (especially 2) are full with, honestly some of the best chases i've ever seen. Look at the causway chase in BB2. Try to watch it without opening your mouth with amazement. While the acting of Will Smith and Martin Lawerence is now where near others level, their chemesrty is absolutly amazing, and they work well together to make some rib crackingly funny scenes.
The plots are really non existint, just an excuse for some big, loud action.
There isn't really much more to say, just get these films. If not at least watch them. There are loud, big explosive, sweary action-a-thons, that any action fan will love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 14 Mar 2005
When I first played this, I nearly cried. For that first hour all I could think, was it's gone terribly wrong. They have finally got MGS wrong. 1 was brill, 2 was OK, 3 is crap, works dosent it?
Well, after this enitial dissapointment, MGS3 begins to grow on you. Every aspect of the game suddenly overheats and blows up like the engine of a metro using NOS. Suddenly you find yourself looking down at you, covored in body hairs, drenched in sweat, realsing you've been hiding in a bush for three days.
And that is really how engrossing MGS3 is. It will begin to stun you.
So lets state the obvious. It's set in the jungle. In the 1960s. You play as snake (NOT RAIDEN THANK GOD) all the way through. I will explain in detail all the new bits later.
OH, yeah and it's the best MGS yet!
You play as snake, sent deep behind enemy lines in U.S.S.R to find a scientist named SOKOLOV, whos being forced to carry out military recsearch/experements. You have to find him and bring him home safely. Obviously thats not it, but I dont want to spoil the expereince for you.
You've probably heard abot the new camoflauge system. If you'r worried about it being complicated, slap yourself around the face. Its easier than pie! Just open the window, select your camo, if the camo index goes up or is a high number, keep it! You can also increase it by lying down.
The shooting isn't perfect, but its very stable, pretty much the same as MGS2. Visually MGS3 is amazing, and the score is almost beautiful.
The boss battles, however, have to be the highlight. The proper boss battles are against OCOLOT, THE PAIN, THE FEAR, THE END, THE FURY, VOLGIN, SHAGAHOD AND BOSS. The best has to be the end, an hour long test of stamina, endurance, and sniping skills.
You also now have to eat for survival. You start with a little bit of food but to survive you will need to get your own. Anything that moves can basically be eaten, snakes, frogs, bats, rats, rabbits, birds, anything.
You also will need to patch yourself up after you are injured. Fractured bones been a splint and a bandage, while cuts will need all the disinfectants and to be sown up. It sounds complicated, but it's not.
Overall, Snake Eater is a really good game. While it dosn't beat San Andreas, it is one of the best games for a long time.
There is one thing that really bothered me though, the cutscenes. Many people complained about these in MGS2, but the complaints did nothing. There comes a time when watching for 30 minuets, playing for 10, and then watching for another 30 gets a bit stupid. But when you have a plot like this one, yor gonna need alot of time to explain.
Basically, you need this game. The outside jungle, is a monumental improvement on grey corridors, and this game never fails to amaze.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never die alone!, 7 Mar 2005
This review is from: Never Die Alone [DVD] (DVD)
i brought this film, merely because i was looking for a DMX film, as I'm a big fan. This was all that I could find that i hadn't seen, and sounded quite good. So i brought it and watched it, and what a choice! DMX really exels as King David, this is easily his best role, and proves he is one of the few rappers that can act.
Basically, King David (DMX) ran away from his hood. At the beginning of the film, he returns to this hood. Before long, he is atacked by two guys. A white writer takes him to hospital, where he dies. But then he is confronted by the doctor, who tells him King David has left him everything. David also told the writer that he had a son somewhere, and he would him to locate him. Among all of his things, is a collection of audio cassets, which king david has recorded, telling us about his life. The rest of the film is basically the cassets, king david narrates while we watch. The story also follows the guy who murdered him, and at the end it's all brought together with a big twist that you probably wont see coming.
Overall, this film kicks ass, so go get it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, but not what I thought!, 4 Mar 2005
Mercenaries is a brilliant game. You've probably read that before somewhere, well its true.
But I did have one majour problem with this game. Alot of people have said that it is like GTA in a warzone. Which idiot said that? It's nothing like GTA, you would be a fool to even compare it. So, why is it compared to GTA? Beacause you can take/nick any car? Because there is free roam bits when you are not on a contract (more later)? Because you have a little bit of freedom in how you complete the missions? Or because you can choose what order you do the missions in? And those are about the only similarities. Don't be fooled, there's not nearly as much stuff to do. Is there a gym? Can you eat? Can you take a quadbike through the woods searching for bigfoot? Can you jump of a huge bridge into the sea? NO NO NO NO
But this in no way means mercenaries is a bad game. Infact mercenaries is a brilliant game. You play as 1 of 3 mercenaries (you pick) and are sent to Korea. Basically you have been given a deck of 52 of the worlds most wanted (like in Iraq.) You have to capture (big bucks) or kill (smaller bucks) each one. But to do this you must gather intel. You do this by doing jobs for 4 different groups (russian mafia, chinese, N and S Koreans) and once you have completed your contract (mission) you recieve money and intel.
There is also a website which helps you. You can order vehicles, supplies and airstrikes to help you complete you missions. Watching an airstrike bring down an airport never gets boring.
Visually Mercenaries is amazing. The explosions are like no other, and the whole surrounding is really detailed and well done.
So why was it dissapointing? The Hype. People where saying it'll be better that GTA, and Its GTA in a warzone, which are not right. When you here phrases like this you get excited. GTA in a warzone? Yes please! But its not. It's a completely different game, and a very good one at that.
