4.0 out of 5 stars Very detailed, 21 Mar 2010
Extremely detailed and concise. Helpful, thorough, however immensley irritating in it's patronising, 'friendly' tone. And serious illustrations would be far better than those ridiculous childish ones. Apart from that, for how much it costs and how much is packed in you can probably overcome the before mentioned problem! The book is useful in its specefity to the UK and Ireland and all in all it would do well for people interested in DIY. Be warned however that it lacks a level of critical analysis. For example animal burrowing is a problem and rather than wash it over it would be useful to be thorough about the disadvantages too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing, 21 Mar 2010
Quite a thin, flimsy book. Some of the details are not specefic enough- basic dimensions would have helped. The book is useful in answering a few questions but as a Birkhauser book it would just be so much nicer if it was richer in its content. It seems amateurish and friendly- which is a problem with most books about Straw Bale, when in fact this area desperately recquires a serious, concise package to inform the reader. Some of the houses used as examples are HIDEOUS, however I will concede that useful comments have been made about them and where their successes lie. If the book just packed more into it it would be the foremost guide and therfore I am dissapointed. C for effort!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Book, 21 Mar 2010
A very nicely compiled book with useful details that take you further than an architectural photograph. It definately delivers for how much it costs on amazon (which is cheaper
than any of the other websites and shops- and a digital collection of the drawings is quite useful too. The whole series by Virginia Mcleod is the right balance between
technical drawings and photographs therefore I would reccomend it to any architectural enthusiast.
