The Chocolate Money
The Chocolate Money
by Ashley Prentice Norton
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £14.94

4.0 out of 5 stars Totally a Gripping read!, 19 May 2013
This review is from: The Chocolate Money (Hardcover)
I got this book out from the library purely because of the title but oh my god, it did not disappoint!

Full of emotions and heartache between a mother and daughter relationship.

It slighly shocked me when I saw how sexually open the daughter was and at such a young age but it is a novel where you can feel the desire to be loved and what she goes through leap off the page and I found that I could not put it down but wanted to know more about what was going to happen!

A total page turner and great storyline!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic must have for any Harry Potter fan!!!, 10 Feb. 2012
I purchased this book in Waterstones for a much more expensive retail price because I was so excited and felt like i had to have it right there and then, but nevertheless i love this book sooo much and i would highly recommend it to any person who loves the world of Harry potter and wants to know more in depth knowledge. The book is basically a look behind the scenes at how they created the magic in the films. From interviews with the actors, to how they created sets and the loveable magic creatures, you feel like you are getting a sneak peak into the inner workings and that alone is enough to keep anyone engaged.

Add to this, the beautiful artwork and the props that they give you inside the book, then its even better. By props,i mean they give you a hand made invitation to the Yule Ball, a smaller version of the MARAUDERS MAP (my favourite) and Harry Potters acceptance letter to Hogwarts!!!!

This book provides everything to seal your love forever not only for the films, but for the books also and i think it has no age limit. Children and aduls will love it alike .

4.0 out of 5 stars Smurfing Good fun!!!, 22 Aug. 2011
This review is from: The Smurfs [DVD] [2011] (DVD)
After dragging my mother to go and see this movie as I can remember watching the original version when I was a child and was not disappointed at how funny it was. Filled with quirky and hilarious moments suitable for children and adults alike that keep you entertained from start to finish.

It tells the story of the smurfs being sort out by the evil wizard Gagarmel. They end up trapped in modern New York city and have to wait until the next blue moon in order to find their way home... with the horrible wizard right on their trail.

The only slighly annoying aspect to this movie is that it can be quite cheesy at times but it doesn't take the film down at all and I enjoyed it a lot and will buy it when it comes out on dvd to relive again and again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite Interesting, 3 July 2011
This review is from: The Runaway [DVD] (DVD)
The first thing i would say about this program is that it is based on the novel of the same name written by Martina Cole, so not all things are exactly the same and some aspects have been dramatised. However, i have to say that it is a really good adaptation that in my eyes sticks mostly to the true feelings and emotions portrayed in the book.

It focuses on the main female character of Cathy who has a terrible childhood and as she grows older, it seems like her life could in fact be getting closer. Some of the issues that she encounters range varying from prostitution, drugs, murder & sexual abuse.

On the run in Soho, she gets saved and becomes friends with Desrae who is a transvestite, she takes Cathy under her wing and helps her throughout the difficultys she faces in her life.

The main recurring theme is Cathy's love for her so called brother Eamon and i think their tangled romance was shown really well throughout the adaptation.

This version was broadcast on Sky One and it is split into 6 different parts, with each episode lasting just under an hour.

I think the way they split the whole story up was very effective, as it kept you hooked and made you want to watch the next episode right away. As adaptations go, I think this is one to watch whether you are a keen Martina Cole fan or not.

Going It Alone
Going It Alone
by Clare Dowling
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.12

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughful & funny, 1 July 2011
This review is from: Going It Alone (Paperback)
This was the first book that i have ever read by the author Clare Dowling but as soon as I saw it and read the synopsis, I thought it would be an interesting read and i was not disappointed.

Going it alone tells the story of the main character Millie who is more than desperate to have a baby and it not only shows her journey but also how this desire affects and completely controls her life. Millie is an instantly likeable character with a good sense of humour who you instantly feel for.

The main other character stories we are given is Mille's sister Oona who is having marriage and sex problems, their father who has to take care of his wife who develops early on dementia.

I think the reason why this novel works well is because of the extreme things that Millie is prepared to do for a baby and the fact that it is anything but simple. She drives away her husband Andrew with her crazy charts and on schedule sex so she heads to Spain for fertility treatment. Like any decent novel, another twist gets thrown into the mix and Millie meets Simon while in Spain who she instantly connects with, the big question remains will she give up her true love for a 15% chance of finally getting pregnant.
I will not spoil the outcome for future readers but it is worth a read to find out what happens to these well written charatcers.
I myself really enjoyed this novel, i found it funny, sad and romantic all at the same time and it kept me hooked till the very last time.
I would definitely reccomend to any reader as it is simply what I would call "a lovely story" .

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Whoever invented cake mania is to blame for making sooo many people slightly addicted to it.

This is one game that once you've started , you will find it very hard to put down as it makes you want to keep playing for just 5 more minutes.

The concept of this game is actually quite simplisitc, you work in a cake shop and customers come in and you have to make the correct cake that for them that matches up to the symbols you are shown. To make it to the next level, you have to serve a high amount of customers that beats or matches up to the target you are given.

It has a very fast paced nature as you advance to higher levels, the customers come faster and faster so you have to up your speed over time.
It is actually a great game not only for kids but also for adults I think, as it can relate to anyone and get anyone interested in it.

Overall, I think it is such a great game that has good levels and high quality picture screen.
I would recommend it to everyone to play once.

Love Lessons
Love Lessons
by Jacqueline Wilson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting.... ..., 23 Jun. 2011
This review is from: Love Lessons (Paperback)
I read this book a while ago because when I was younger, i always liked reading Jacqueline Wilson books as they captured my imagination and always read them in less than a week.

Love lessons is interesting as Wilson takes a subject that you would not think is suitable for her intended audience but the way that it is written makes it suitable.
It tells the story of two sisters who have both been home schooled by their strict father, when he becomes ill though, both girls start public school and this book details the experiences that they have been missing out on all their lives. The oldest daughter develops a close relationship with her art teacher whose kids she begins to babysit. He is the only one who seems to understand her and the 10 moments they spend in the car together become more special than anything else.
I think it is good that Jacqueline Wilson has taken a topic that many teenagers can relate to and may experience and the way she has written it, it does not come across as sleazy or horrible , we see the inside of their relationship and their close bond and the way that their feelings develop even though it is considered "wrong".

Overall, i think this is a very well written book that is definitely worth a read and I found it highly enjoyable.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's okay, 23 May 2011
This review is from: Chicken Little [DVD] [2005] (DVD)
I think this film is worthy of space on anyone's dvd shelf, funny with some highly humorous moments it was a pleasure to watch.

The movie retells the classic story of chicken little who thinks that the sky is falling but no one else in the town beleives him. The character of chicken little does pull on your heart strings because he feels negelected and belittled by every other character even his own father as he goes on his search to make his dad proud of him once and for all.

The film encompasses several different styles such as the romance between chicken and ugly duckling, the adventurous world war sequence at the end that looks strangely like it's come out of a prequel to war of the worlds but still works and also quite comedic moments mostly involving of the main characters and also my favourite Runt of the litter (the pig). Strangely awkward and falling all over the place, the character of the pig provides several funny moments and becomes rather loveable to any person.

3/5 stars, there are better films out there, but for a new take on a classic story, it still deserves a watch too

4.0 out of 5 stars brillant, If slightly scary ...., 23 May 2011
First watching this movie it did capture my attentions, I had never really been interested in the batman franchise before but me and my mum thought we'd take a chance on it.
I'm soo glad i did take the chance because it highlights Christopher Nolan's exceptional skills as a director and it shows throughout this movie.
The movie basically depicts what happened to the charatcer of Bruce Wayne from the death of his parents to being trained in martial arts to join the legendary League of Shadows led by Liam Neeson. We then see the rise of Batman and how he joins forces with the only good police officer in Gotham James Gordon to defeat the League of Shadows and stop them tearing the city of Gotham apart by the hallucinogenic poison they are placing into the water supply.

To me, it's such a clever story line with some very strong actors such as Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Katie Holmes to keep it going.
the scarecrow mask that doctor crane wears in order to have them declared insane is one that initally scared me soo much , the portryal of doctor crane is done marvellously and he has the "insane" notion down to a tea, the scarecrow mask is how he poisons several different characters and it is the only freaky aspect in the entire film.

I think Christopher Nolan has done a really decent job of bringing the Batman franchise out of it's previous slum and making it appeal to a whole new generation: Kids & adults alike :)

4.0 out of 5 stars fairly pleasant!!!, 23 May 2011
This review is from: Ella Enchanted [DVD] (DVD)
I ended up buying this movie because not only do i love fairy tale similar tales and fantasy movies but i am also a huge fan of Anne Hatahway herself.

It has the traditional components of any classic fairy tale, down trodden girl who goes on a journey to rid herself of a terrible curse and ends up falling in love with her prince charming, however it does seem to sparkle on stage.
For me, the most appealing aspect of this movie is that is shows many strong, female characters not only that of Ella herself but also her mother and her house hold fairy friend Mandy.
The fantasy aspect is what enthralled me the most with this movie, full of ogres, elves, giants and fairies, it pulls you into a world that is so different to the world we live in now.

Overall, i think this movie can capture the attention of both children and adults alike and it is good in narrative and humour to watch away the day.
