Vintage Akira Kaneda Biker Slim Fit Fine Quality Embroidery Leather Jacket (XX-Large)
Vintage Akira Kaneda Biker Slim Fit Fine Quality Embroidery Leather Jacket (XX-Large)

1.0 out of 5 stars cheap tat, 26 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is, unfortunately, a typical overpriced piece of garbage. Far too small, maybe two sizes below the guide, and made as cheaply as possible, the jacket had fallen to pieces in the bag before I even opened it. Not worth a 100p let alone £100

Step Aside, Pops

5.0 out of 5 stars This review is for those who don't know what this is, 10 Jan. 2016
This review is from: Step Aside, Pops (Paperback)
Kate Beaton is a web comic artist. She has her own website, and uploads these to it. The book doesn't contain anything not on the site. The vast majority of people who buy (and review) this book, like other web people's are fans wishing to contibute money, so tend to all say how wonderful and perfect it is, without giving any hint as to WHAT it is for those who don't know.

Well, Kate is a bit like those clever people on youtube who take something existing and mock it in an affectionate way. Kate is not on youtube, she draws pictures though, but the style is similar in some ways to How It Should Have Ended and Honest Reviews, in that she is summarising long things quickly with memorable sound-bites (It's also a bit Pythonesque, in not having punchlines and attitude) Rather than films or games which can be hours long, Kate takes historic people, and people in literature (and there is a lot of crossover) and summarising whole lives and events they did with comments in a contempory style. She does not use recurring characters, although some are popular enough to be used again. She uses many figures who are extremely famous, and those who are not she is often trying to bring attention to. Kate is Canadian and Canadian politicians feature sometimes.

I personally like the humor a lot. I think Kate is a brilliant artist and writer, who can convey the exact message she wishes to in very simple drawings (they are all in the same level of detail as the cover) also, from her interviews and having met her, she is a really lovely person and doesn't have a bad word to say about anyone, all the comics she does are affectionate, she likes to bring attention to the nice people, rather than show how bad villians can be.

I, like many other fans, find the idea of famous figures of history and literature acting like spoilt teenagers all the time very amusing, it is a bit clever, and a I know some people just dont "Get It" mainly because there are no regular characters, no punchlines and it picks weird and wonderful subject matter, so, like I said very Pythonesque.

OK, so they are not terrible though. Ok these are oven gloves, not the most expensive thing in the world, so you don't expect much. These are unlined silicone gloves, the fingers make for an amusing novelty, but the fact they are unlined makes them odd to wear, also not so good for big man hands. I bought these when I was moving into a new house and had to purchase everything for my new kitchen, I actually bought two sets of gloves, these and a pair of lines silicone mittens from Asda, yes these were a pair and I had to buy two from the supermarket, but I have never used these after the first try.

1.0 out of 5 stars I disagree, 31 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The biggest problem with any review of a Cradle OF Filth album, is the fanbase giving everything five stars. They would have you believe that the very first demo's done by the 'group' (c'mon it's just Dani and whoever he hires!) was musical perfection, and since then each release has only refined perfection into something that is even better, something which, prior to release, was actually inconceivable in its brilliance.

This is nonsense of course.

Personally, I thought the 'group' started off as a load of shouty garbage, but slowly improved over time, becoming less extreme (oh dear, I can hear the fans hissing) and much more accessible around 2000 with Midian. Pretend "Damnation and Day" didn't happen and the 2004 Nymphetamine and 2006 Thornography have great tunes, sound, guitars and are just wonderful theatrics to listen too. no idea about what Dani is on about most of the time, but his voice was amusingly "bad guy in kids cartoon of the 80's" in those, rather than "just screaming". But since then it has all been downhill. 2008's Godspeed was trying too hard to offend, the purile subject matter was genuinely offensive rather than "wind up mum and dad" amusing. It seemed there wasn't enough ideas to fill an album and the good moments were too few. Darly Darkly in 2010 was even worse, and 2012's Manticore hit an all time low, the album itself only showed three band members and there wasn't a memorable song on the entire disc.

so, this is just noise really. I think Dani even said he wanted people to hear the words and think about them? who is he kidding, he is screaching nonsese about made-up monsters! get over yourself man!

Somehow, against all odds, the 2015 album Hammer of the Witches forgets everything post 2006 and sounds like a decent (not quite spectacular)follow-up to Thornography, back to the theatrics and fun. but everything between 2006 and 2015 can be skipped really, and if you have to get Godspeed for its handfull of decent tracks then do so, but skip this, it is just rubbish

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but the default choice as it's 5-star SHARP rated, 1 July 2015
This review is from: Caberg Duke Hi-Viz-SPECIAL ORDER
As everyone SHOULD know, the Caberg Duke was the first flip-up helmet to get a 5-star SHARP rating. It has since been joined by two others (a BMW and Shark) but they cost twice as much. So, if you want a flip-front lid then this is the default choice.
I have no problems with the comfort wearing this. It has two visors, the other and tinted-inner. The person that said the inner visor gets in their field of vision clearly is doing something wrong as it retracts virtually all the way, also, it has a deflector that means (for the first time) I don't need a neck-warmer until the air temperature drops.

now the bad things,
the visibility is restricted more than any other helmet I have worn,
the front is VERY close to your face, indeed I can touch it with my chin if I just stick it forward a bit, I canot remove the helmet without opening the front. I don't mind either of those. I was warned by the salesman in the shop about the closeness, and I have the front open when I park up anyway.
The visor plastic is terrible, it scratches very easily, and water seems to stick to it,
it steams up very quickly. I have never had a helmet that doesn't steam up (yes I had an Arai too) but this is one of the quickest.

5.0 out of 5 stars I bought this out of curiosity, I can't put it down, I love it, Sir Christopher Lee is awesome, 8 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is just a short review, this album is AWESOME. It sounds something like a mix between Cradle of Filth and Iron Maiden, or maybe Iron Maiden covering Cradle of Filth (rather than the reverse, which has been done)
it shouldn't work, it is incoherant, inconsistant, has four tracks (redone) from the previous album, sometimes Lee sings, sometimes he sings badly, sometimes he sings in duet (which with his deep voice sounds great), sometimes he is hardly in the songs (it's a concept album telling a narrative so there are many characters) you cannot tell the characters apart, the lyrics are laughably terrible, some of the acting and sound effects are even worse, the story is hard to follow, an early song sounds likes climatic, his mid-life crisis also sounds like it is a deathbed confession, even the first track (an intro) goes off in about four different directions

it should be the worst album ever

But it is just so DAMN AWESOME, I have been playing it over and over for days,

it is awesome

If you like the Dio albums, you will like this. It is impossible to review without the context, and everyone will point out Dio has left, and the sound is more commercial.

Well, that is nonsense

If you had told me this was a Dio album, I would not have known better, vocals, the sound the themes are all the same, just look at the cover!
There is more songs about sex, but there were plenty in the Dio era, and "eyes of the world" is one of the most epic songs Blackmore's Rainbow did (and an amazing use of 70's keyboards) the only thing I can say is that it was released in 1979, but sounds much older. I suppose the Dio Rainbow albums always sounded older too. Now it is 35 years later, that means almost nothing, but its still worth mentioning

Not what I was after. This guy was a big influence on Hendrix, but only predated him by a few years. He soon went off in a completely different direction. If you are a Hendrix fan, do not bother with this.
And don't say this is a pointless review, I bought it, I didn't like it, I am stating my opinion

2.0 out of 5 stars another bad live album (are there any good ones?), 6 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very good songs, but the (live) recording gives preference to the vocals. Therefore you can hear a fantastic song in the background, but not listen to it. Pat has zero charisma on stage, he sounds like a children's entertainer talking to the audience. I would advise skipping this one

1.0 out of 5 stars "how to make every mistake in literature" in one go, 6 April 2015
This review is from: Joby (New Windmills) (Hardcover)
Forced to read this at school, and while the process of disecting a book damages the appreciation, all the other books I have come to like or at least understand in later life.
Thiss utter dross in an insult to schools, no plot, no characters, no point. Utter drivel, one of the worst books ever written. A story about nobodys doing nothing. No-one should ever read this, it should not even have been written.
Had we been studying it for "how to make every mistake in writing literature" it would have been a brilliant case study, but otherwise, this is dull, pointless, tedious, with no structure, no plot and no conclusion.
