3.0 out of 5 stars Charging in case, 30 April 2012
Everyone except 1 person was saying it is impossible to charge an iPad whilst in a case with this device, so I went to a shop and tested one.

The result was that if you do not put the molded plastic insert in for the rear charging area, YES, you can charge in a very thin protective cover. The problem with this, is that the weight of the iPad then has no back support (which would be provided by the plastic insert), and puts a lot of stress on both the charging head of the charger, and the internals of the iPad.

My solution was to saw and sand down the plastic insert so that my iPad(3) would fit whilst still in its rubber protective case. It is only a thin rubber protective case about 3-4mm thick, so don't expect to using any big and fancy leather cases. Due to many failed docking attempts whilst trying to get the modification just right, the metal around the port on the iPad got a little bent inwards and needed to be pried open very slightly (which also helped the docking work more smoothly). Do be aware that this could void your warranty, so do at your own risk.

The product only gets a 3 because whilst it now looks nice and works well, it should have been built to accommodate charging in a case, and not require customization by the user. Why these people didn't have the common sense to design for charging in a case, I will never understand.

As a final word, I did test another charger in the shop, the Xtrememac IPU-STR-11. This has only 1 charging slot, so not as useful as the Duo, but it did have a wider space to accommodate cases without requiring and modification. IT also has a speaker, but was since the leg that extends out to reveal the charging head is not very wide, and it is also quite light, the device is a bit unstable when the iPad is docked.

BTW if you don't use any of the inserts for the front charging head, an iPhone4 in a case fits easily, and the iphone4 is so light, the stress on the connectors is minial and IMHO nothing to worry about.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only works with their vacuum bags!, 2 Jan. 2011
Having used a similar product from another company successfully for some time, I bought one of these based upon the great reviews here.

I should have read the reviews in more detail. Others here too have noticed it only works with their "channeled" vacuum bags.

The other unit I had from another manufacturer worked with any type of normal plastic bag, so why must they design this to only work with their EXPENSIVE proprietary bags?

No thank you, I do not want to have to waste time and effort cleaning and re-using their expensive bags!

20p each for a plastic bag! When standard plastic bags are about 1p each!
