5.0 out of 5 stars I Must Have Been Deaf, Dumb and Blind, 14 Nov. 2013

Tommy had a tremendous impact at the time of its release and rightly so.
With hints of what to expect on their earlier albums The Who Sell Out and A Quick One
However, in my own personal opinion this impact was short lived with the follow up releases of Live At Leeds and Who's Next gaining more of my attention.
And the fabulous Quadrophenia, released four years later was also played far more extensively than Tommy.
Although.......and here comes the glaring contradiction Tommy witnessed live on stage is undeniably a 'tour de force' and has remained so, to some extent for 45 years.
Revisiting the live versions and experiencing the raw power of the Live at Leeds and Live at Hull versions undeniably showcases the true impact of one of the first 'Rock Operas'.
This 'Stunning Limited Edition Super-Deluxe Box Set' provides everything, the Remastered Original Album in HD, Pete Townshend's Demo's, The 5.1 Album Mix and The Live Bootleg from 1969.
The Deluxe hard-back book provides an insight into the development of Tommy along with extensive photographs, notes, hand written song lyrics and memorabilia.
The convenience of the CD format (as opposed to having to change each side on vinyl) now allows me to truly enjoy this ground breaking piece of music as I really should have done on its release.
Live at Leeds and Who's Next are still the best the Who have produced but Tommy definitely has a place in history, 'live' or otherwise and to me 45 years later it now sounds so much more coherent.
I will now pay Tommy the respect it deserved but wasn't given on its original release.
This Box Set will take pride of place alongside my Quadrophenia, Super Deluxe Edition and Live At Leeds 40th Anniversary Special Edition awaiting to be joined by the Who's Next Super Deluxe Edition Box Set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Local Lad Makes Good, 2 Oct. 2013

I do not normally read fiction but always willing to support local authors I thought that I would make 'No Doubting Thomas' by Paul Dargan, my 'holiday read' as I do enjoy football and would class myself as a supporter.
The way the story has been written actually gives the impression of fact rather than fiction and I was therefore somewhat pleasantly surprised. I was also impressed with the way the author has created two stories to run in tandem.
His early days and experiences with Southport FC and his high profile as a professional in the Bundesliga. Reading alternately between the two storylines maintained a genuine interest in how and when things had developed in the lower leagues through to playing at the very highest level in the Champions League Final. There is obviously a comprehensive knowledge of the game and the facts and statistics suggest that there has been a lot of research into or a close association with the real life of a professional footballer.
This is a very enjoyable read and the occasional introduction of rather intriguing little 'off at a tangent' stories and developments do prompt the need to know more as does the very clever abrupt ending.
I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone whether they are interested in football or not, it is that good.
I do believe that this is the first instalment of a trilogy and I am already looking forward to the continuation and the conclusion with bated breath.

My original Bose tips had eventually split after a couple of years and were in need of replacement. The reviews for the JK Deals tips appeared to be very positive so I placed my order. The tips arrived a couple of days later and it was immediately noticeable that they were of a far better quality and a much more comfortable and tailored fit than the genuine Bose originals. I was very impressed and would highly recommend the JK Deals replacement tips to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pete Townshend and the Who at their best, 18 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Quadrophenia is undoubtedly the Who's best 'Rock Opera'. Tommy took all the plaudits but Pete Townshend certainly upped the ante with this collection of songs and music. The Super Deluxe Edition of Quadrophenia is quite a remarkable insight into how he actually achieved it and as such is good value for the price tag. The first two discs are the remastered album and the impact of 'the story' is as good as it was when it was first released and the songs and music sound even better. The bonus discs three and four have a similarity to 'Who Came First', Pete's first solo album, in that he prepares the songs in his image to present to the other members for them to adapt and to interpret. The hard backed book is excellent and along with the other 'odds and sods' gives you the opportunity to see the album from Pete Townshend's view point. Due to complicated production and technical difficulties Quadrophenia was not extensively played live but I was fortunate enough to see one of the earlier attempts in Belle View Manchester in late 1973. Now then! a live version of Quadrophenia would be worth adding to any CD collection.
