A Level Mathematics for Edexcel: Statistics S1 (Oxbox)
A Level Mathematics for Edexcel: Statistics S1 (Oxbox)
by James Nicholson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and concise, 6 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is how a good textbook should be written. It takes you through a clear explanation of each topic with clear, worked examples. When you get to the end, you just think "Is that all there is to Stats at this level?" Brilliant!

Compare this to "Edexcel AS and A Level Modular Mathematics - Statistics 1" which I have reviewed separately and which in my view is very poor by comparison.

If you are doing AS Stats S1 and are finding it difficult to get to grips with, I would strongly recommend getting a copy of this asap.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor, 26 Feb. 2014
Many of Pearson's Edexcel books are very good, particularly the IGCSE Sciences.

Unfortunately this is not one of the good ones. Statistics, even for someone who has a good grasp of Core Maths at this level can be a bit difficult to get to grips with. This book is full of examples but short on explanation, so very often it's not clear why a problem is being solved in a particular way. I found that it needed a fair amount of Googling to get a full understanding of what is going on which shouldn't be necessary with a decent textbook. The section on normal distribution is particularly poor. I think this book is more likely to confuse than help, so would definitely not recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waffle, 12 Sept. 2008
This review is from: Tycoon (Paperback)
It's not clear who this book is aimed at. If you have had any experience running a business before, you won't find anything useful in it to further your success, and if you are just starting out, this is no roadmap to riches of any use.
Both my wife and I run our own businesses, and got this book mainly to see if we could get some sort of insight into the mindset of someone who is patently very sucessful. No such luck. We both independently came to the same conculsion - waffle.
Apart from the lack of substance, it is a dreadfully boring book to read
This seems to me a cynical excercise in cashing in on Jones' public profile to fill hsi already overflowing piggy bank.
Don't bother - I'm sure there are better reads around.
