The Target (Will Robie Book 3)
The Target (Will Robie Book 3)
Price: £3.59

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty much up to the mark, 13 Nov 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Usual good graphic descriptions narrative and content. Split over 3 actions this time. I'm not sure that this dispersed narrative works. Nevertheless enjoyable.

1.0 out of 5 stars latest Reacher out of steam, 4 Sep 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An average plot with a small twist at the end. It is as if lee child is feeling very very very tired when he starts writing but somehow manages to get to the end. The choice of location for the action is London and there are dozens of similar stories set in uk cities that have more narrative drive and panache than this tired old Reacher character., a huge shame. The editors should have been ruthless in suppressing this damp squib.

In the Midst of Death (Matthew Scudder Mysteries Series Book 3)

1.0 out of 5 stars my first taste of Scudder, 10 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Probably the last taste.... The plot is thin and unsatisfying. Scudder is an unconvincing drunk. Hard to describe. The nearest notion is that there is a series of isolated plot lines with no overall feel of an articulated whole. The writing is good in part, but overall I found it a disappointing read and wished I had spent the money on just about anything else

3.0 out of 5 stars navel gazing and violence in one story, 29 Jun 2014

Childhood episode comes back to bite the chums many years later. More like a woman's novel when going on about relationships but then there is the violence and somewhat improbable escapes. An unusual book. Not unpleasant but I will not be re reading it.

3.0 out of 5 stars second time, 15 Jun 2014

Well I had read this before. The plot is complicated and pretty well constructed tho a bit far fetched at times especially at the last. I could not remember the denouement and enjoyed re discovering the twists.

Nobody dies. But this is a nicely constructed tale that is a gentle read and a not unsurprising ending. Cheered me up!

3.0 out of 5 stars not his best but ok, 9 Jun 2014

Seemed a bit contrived and whether or not an early work. It read like one.
The sense of depth is absent.

August Heat: The Inspector Montalbano Mysteries - Book 10

5.0 out of 5 stars plot and composition, 9 Jun 2014

I have read and in some cases re-read Camilleri's Montalbano. The sense of atmosphere is brilliantly evoked and one's acquaintance with the protagonists is intimate and extends beyond what has been written, being augmented by one's imagination. In this book one has no inkling as to how a mystery could possibly result from a villa hire. It evolves rather well and the subsequent investigation is excellently involving. There is a poignant and somewhat sudden end, but I guess it's in keeping with the story!

4.0 out of 5 stars Warming with gas, 30 Mar 2013
The instructions are rudimentary. It took me a while to work out how to switch from pilot light to full gas. Not that obvious push and twist motion! Once up and running it throws out loads of heat an ticks all the boxes. Not elegant tho.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does it live up to expectations?, 3 Nov 2012

This is the first car polish of a considerable number I've used over 40 years that was easy to apply, buffed up nicely with the supplied micro fibre cloth and which continues to be effective after over a week of awful weather. The rain droplets still aggregate on the polished surfaces. It is expensive, but so far justifies every penny. Cited by "Honest John" in the Daily Telegraph motoring section. Thanks!
