5.0 out of 5 stars Great film made better with all these extras, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you're a fan of the LOTR then you will watch this and wonder 'why on earth would Peter Jackson leave out so much great material'. Then you'll look at the clock and understand why. You won't, however, be bored halfway through.

Medical Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine (Perspectives in Nanotechnology)
Medical Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine (Perspectives in Nanotechnology)
by Harry F. Tibbals
Edition: Paperback
Price: 51.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but probably out of date by now, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Back when I read this book it was a good (but slightly dull), comprehensive review of where medical nanotechnology and nanomedicine are today and what the future holds. I dare say that several years on, it will be out of date.

Bad Science
Bad Science
by Ben Goldacre
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.20

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, 2 April 2014

This review is from: Bad Science (Paperback)
An entertaining and very easy to follow introduction to the principles of evidence based medicine and science in general. The book introduces this subject through examples of Bad Science that are both shocking and funny at the same time. You will never read a science article in a newspaper or listen to the 'scientific' claims of products in an advert in the same way again

Children of Prometheus: The Accelerating Pace of Human Evolution (Helix Book)
Children of Prometheus: The Accelerating Pace of Human Evolution (Helix Book)
by Christopher Wills
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting book, but forgettable, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The arguments this book puts forward are interesting, but in my opinion are easily forgotten. Most popular science books leave me feeling more knowledgeable and able to engage someone in debate on the subject, even if it is to a modest level. While I could follow the arguments in this book as I read it, I have entirely forgotten what they were a year on, which is very unusual. Perhaps it is because the subject area is not one that triggers many emotions, or dare I say one I find as interesting as others.

Wheater's Functional Histology: A Text and Colour Atlas, 5e
Wheater's Functional Histology: A Text and Colour Atlas, 5e
by Barbara Young BSc Med Sci(Hons) PhD MB BChir MRCP FRCPA
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to histology, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I found the book much more concise than Junqueira's Basic Histology, and that is something that I think any Medical, Dental, Veterinary or other student will appreciate. It also has the added bonus of coming with 'student consult', which allows you to view the book on your tablet, smartphone and computer, and has added features such as the ability to test yourself.

Guns, Germs and Steel: A short history of everybody for the last 13,000 years
Guns, Germs and Steel: A short history of everybody for the last 13,000 years
by Jared Diamond
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.69

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Jared Diamond backs up his coherent hypothesis for how the status quo came to be with excellent examples from history and with what we know about the geography, geology and ecology of the planet as it is today and as it was pre-historically. You will learn something about history, anthropology, biology, ecology and even linguistics. But, more importantly, you'll be able to answer why it is that certain societies have come to dominate others

Life of Pi
Life of Pi
by Yann Martel
Edition: Paperback
Price: 3.85

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Life of Pi (Paperback)
Honestly one of the best books I've ever read. You will be gripped from start to finish and will immerse yourself in the physical and emotional struggle of Pi. Recommend you read it before you watch the film (as with any book with a film remake)

Micky Flanagan Live: The Out Out Tour [DVD]
Micky Flanagan Live: The Out Out Tour [DVD]
Dvd ~ Micky Flanagan
Price: 6.80

3.0 out of 5 stars It's worth a watch, but not worth buying, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I suppose you could say this about any stand-up DVD, but it's not worth buying because once you've seen it a couple of times you will have committed all the jokes to memory and it won't be funny anymore. With a big TV comic like Micky Flanagan you also have the added problem that you will have seen most of his best material before. All that said, he is a funny man, so it is worth a watch, but probably not worth buying

Bad Pharma: How drug companies mislead doctors and harm patients
Bad Pharma: How drug companies mislead doctors and harm patients
by Ben Goldacre
Edition: Paperback
Price: 9.18

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ben Goldacre's best book. 'Bad Science' introduces the ideas of evidenced based medicine (and science generally), but sticks to well known examples of misleading science. 'Bad Pharma' takes this a step further and shows us how the whole process of approving medicines is corrupt. It does so in an incredibly easy to follow way; you will both laugh and cry.

The Office - The Complete First Series [2001] [DVD]
The Office - The Complete First Series [2001] [DVD]
Dvd ~ Ricky Gervais
Offered by best_value_entertainment
Price: 2.72

4.0 out of 5 stars A great series, 2 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I do sometimes think that 'the office' is overrated; but that is only because people describe it as the best sit-com ever. It is Ricky Gervais' greatest work, and that I think is a massive compliment
