The Burning Room (Harry Bosch Book 19)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bosch ever, 25 Jan. 2015

I've read most, if not all, of Michael Connolly's Harry Bosch novels and this was the most satisfying and enjoyable reads of them all. Practice really does make perfect. It's beautifully plotted and the characterisation of the main protagonists is pitch perfect. Just like life, there are loose ends and ultimately incomplete findings for the reader to ponder over and fill in. A really good read.

Looked great but as soon as I used it on a gas ring, it developed patches of discolouration. It may be great on other types of hob I don't think it's suitable for an open flame.

If you enjoyed 'A Time to Kill', you'll enjoy this: less harrowing opening and even though you can sort of guess the ending, it still packs a punch. The original characters are well sustained and developed. Money well spent and time was passed with great reading pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, 29 May 2014

Apart from experiencing a little difficulty locating the dongle (it's in the battery compartment, unlike a previous purchase of a similar item) this works well and makes life so much easier for someone like me, who's too old to unlearn my mouse-using muscle memory. Great for use with laptop connected to TV. I can delete emails during unavoidable adverts during catch-up programmes.

For such a well established franchise, the risk of jumping the shark is always a worry but this season is as good as previous ones and gives fans all sorts of new directions to enjoy in the Dubois family life and marriage, as well as interesting plot-lines and guest performances.

Does what it says on the tin: tells you the time without any annoying ticking. Lovely smooth, sweeping hand movement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly paced storytelling, 26 April 2014

This is very much a young man's creation. Grisham shows the power and economy of narration and characterisation that he would go on to develop over his long writing career. It is tightly structured, funny and pacy. Despite the harrowing opening scene, this is an uplifting read.

I had almost forgotten the rules! I haven't played since I was a kid on holiday and am now 61. Relaxing bit of time wasting...

This is a difficult book at first. It plays with with time, has a complex plot, a large cast of characters and multiple narrative threads. However, Catton handles them with the skill and confidence of a modern day Dickens and achieves an enormously satisfying read.

The different levels of difficulty and help you can access make this an education the art and science of the game and a way to expand your stock of obscure vocabulary.
