War Story
War Story
Price: £4.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly written RFC squadron tale. A real page turner!, 9 May 2016
This review is from: War Story (Kindle Edition)
Characterisation is first class. We follow Paxton as he arrives in France as an arrogant overconfident realistic product of Public School and Empire. His metamorphosis into a ruthless , cynical, single minded aerial killer is well done. It is not a redemption tale but a well researched fictional record of what sort of chap survived and became effective in an RFC "fighter squadron. It is told with tension and pace. A real page turner.

Price: £6.47

5.0 out of 5 stars The book to begin with in any serious study of the subject., 26 April 2016
An excellent, intelligent, well argued assessment. I wish I had found this book earlier. Excellent clear and coherent description of the engagements of the BEF; particularly of First Ypres. One of the best and most easily understood analysis of what happened when the German Army slammed into the comparatively tiny British Army. Honest and opinionated but not prejudiced. Explains the origins of many shibboleths that have warped public assessments for generations.

Join Cole & Everett on their quest of good versus evil. Parkers historical research highlights the setting. The tale has everything; they ride into town, defend the weak and make a stand against the greater evil. The pace is addictive. Excellent.

Early L'Amour short stories for pulp mags. The tales, plots and characters are great easy reading mind candy. They also reveal his detailed knowledge of the ground and lore of the southwest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book. Doesn't overstate the case, 7 July 2015

Excellent book. Doesn't overstate the case. Shows the vulnerability of such a system to abuse and corruption. The Ghost Squad preceded the "super grass" era. Computer statistic policing should fill some of the vacuum left after MetPol agent handling was "improved" and corruption in CID eliminated. I can't help thinking that the new "PC" MetPol that shoots Brazilian plumbers and seems "clumsy" would do well with another Ghost Squad.
