5.0 out of 5 stars Bake a Better Loaf, 9 Sept. 2010
This review is from: Dough (Paperback)
An exceptional book for home bakers.I have been making bread at home for several years and have been pleased with most of the varieties attempted, but my first effort using Richard Bertinet's methods made my previous loaves seem like the "bricks" which the author has encountered in England. I was sceptical when I started handling the porage-like dough without flouring the baking board first, but persevering with this method of working the dough resulted in a beautiful texture which I never achieved by kneading in the old fashioned way.At under a tenner this book should be of interest to anyone who bakes their own bread, and the DVD supplied with the book illustrates the author's methods and creates confidence to "give it a go"

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful tool for the home baker, 26 Aug. 2010
A very useful tool for anyone making bread by hand, being far more ergonomic than the DIY scraper I had been using (purchased new,not taken out of the toolbox!).The Typhoon scraper is a quite robust silicone kitchen tool and I expect it to last a fair while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and Cheerful !, 26 Aug. 2010
Cheap and cheerful, and well made.Does what I wanted and is sensibly priced.Does not carry a great amount but is useful for a few books or files, together with a small umbrella and a spare top. There is a full size zipped compartment for items you want to keep separate, and built in storage for a pen and a notepad. It suits an old duffer very well and is in daily use. It should last a few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another superb McLevy Mystery!, 28 Mar. 2010
David Ashton has produced another gripping tale, this time involving Mclevy with an investigation into the Tay Bridge disaster. There is a sub-plot concerning Jean Brash and a couple of confidence tricksters, and the good inspector is in danger of falling in love. This is another quality offering from this author, who can produce an extremely well written mystery in half the number of pages used by some crime writers. There is no padding out the story in the McLevy books. In addition to the 'page-turning' pace of the writing, there are moments of humour.from subtle to belly laughs, and the supporting characters are as well portrayed as the protagonists.Highly recommended.

If you have not yet encountered McLevy, BBC Radio 7 features his adventures quite regularly, starring Brian Cox as Inspector James McLevy.

5.0 out of 5 stars McLevy the Edinburgh policeman., 20 Feb. 2010
An excellent mystery story peopled by real Victorian characters.I bought this novel after enjoying the author's dramatisations for radio, and I was not disappointed.A very satisfying read.I have ordered the next book in the series, and expect that the high standard of writing will be maintained. Fans of John Rebus on the streets of Edinburgh may well enjoy encountering James Mclevy walking some of those selfsame streets in the previous century.Look (and listen) out for repeats of those radio plays on BBC7 - Brian Cox is superb as McLevy, and the plays will introduce you to the characters and may encourage you to read the books.

5.0 out of 5 stars An old favourite revived, 7 Feb. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A classic from the days when TV adaptations of great novels were not skimped because of tight-fisted accountants setting the budgets.Excellent value in this edition, and although I did not manage to turn off the foreign language subtitles, this did not affect our enjoyment of the production.Well done Amazon in offering this alternative to the doubly expensive version for sale in the UK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Touchpad too sensitive? - Buy this., 26 Sept. 2009
THIS IS AN IDEAL ADD-ON TO MY LAPTOP.IT IS SMALL ENOUGH TO CARRY OUT,BUT NOT SO SMALL THAT IT CAUSES HAND AND WRIST DISCOMFORT.IT IS COMFORTABLE FOR THE FIRST HOUR OR MORE OF USE. LIKE MOST TRUST PRODUCTS I HAVE PURCHASED IT IS WELL CONSTUCTED AND IS PERFORMING RELIABLY.IT'S A BONUS THAT THE WHITE VERSION MATCHES MY LAPTOP.
IT MIGHT WELL BE UNCOMFORTABLE FOR PROLONGED USE, OR FOR ANYONE WITH LARGER HANDS.
