4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but need to download win 8 drivers, 19 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Generally does exactly what it says on the tin at a reasonable price

I haven't used at great distance as bought for use on a Media centre PC about 6 metres away from router with a brick wall with door between. I'm getting good 4-5 out of 5 bar signal from the rear of the PC in a cabinet. Speed test consistent with my laptop at same range for internet connection. I haven't push tested on network as I don't do media streaming but getting 50+ Mbps on my fibre broadband at this range.

Tiny adaptor so would be idea to upgrade a laptop or where you don't want a massive dongle hanging out. Speed is rated max at 150Mbps which should be fine for most folks but you may need to look at 300Mbps devices if you are serious about streaming HD content

Worth noting you'll need to download drivers if you want to use on a win 8/8.1 PC but packaging does alert you to this. I've knocked a star off for this as this may present a problem for some

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for degunking your gaggia filters, 23 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've a 2 year old ex demo Gaggia baby but in recent months despite dismantling brewblock and cleaning thoroughly , the unit was getting poorer and poorer flow. Descaled but no use but then got these tablets and I've my machine back up and running as it used to.

Easy to use. Just pop tablet in and run system then leave turned off for 15-20mins and then run off more. Whilst I waited I watched as lots of coffee particles dribble out of what appeared to be my clean filter. If you've a machine that is getting slower or poorer flow worth trying

5.0 out of 5 stars Diana Minitastic in black, 10 Sep 2013
This is second Diana mini (bought for flash as worked out almost as cheap as the flash alone.). The inner workings are identical to other diana mini so my comments here apply to all diana minis. This one is wonderfully rendered in black with glossy finish. Some nice small details keep chat noire outline on film advance. Bear in mind range of different styled mini but all mechanically the same.
The mini is simplistic to use but you shouldn't dismiss as toy camera. Takes 35mm film which is easily processed (get mine developed and scanned at ASDA). It's all manual set with no electronics to help you out.
Focusing is purportedly in 4 zones. Bear in mind the camera is designed to give a soft vintage focus and will do so even if all set up perfectly. With narrow aperture of f/11 ( cloudy) or f/16 (sunny) depth of field is large and focusing is moot point. The exception is the close up setting (mines need to have gentle pressure applied so clicks into position)
You can set the aperture for either sunny f/16 or cloudy f/11. For the most part you'll leave the shutter set a N (officially rated as 1/60) B is 'bulb' for long exposures which you can use with handy cable release point
You can set the camera to shoot square frames 24 x 24mm or half 12x24mm
There is no filter screw but you'll find plenty of work rounds online
Watch out that you take the cap of when shooting but it's handy as the camera has no lock to stop double exposures (its designed for this)
Looks great with diana f+ flash. This set contains the adaptors to turn the flash into a standard hotshoe flash or use a standard hotshoe flash on a Diana mini or diana f.
Worth buying as combo as you'll need at least the adapter to use flash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great looking tiny intro to film photography but it's not a toy, 16 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Wanna give retro film photography/lomography a go ? well you could do much worse than this camera but it beguiles it's cute toy like look. If you want crisp, perfect photos every time this won't be for you but if you want the lomo soft focus retro style come on in.

The camera will bring an instant smile to your face it is truly a thing of retro, tiny beauty and I mean tiny the body is about the same size as pack and 1/2 of playing cards with the lens protruding about an inch in front.

You essentially have only 3 shooting controls

(1) Shutter - 2 setting (i) N = 1/60 second for most circumstances inc. flash or (ii) B = bulb/variable. the longer you hold down the longer the shot. The later feature is great for effects and with a tripod and cable release great for night shots. The 1/60 may be more of issue as the chance of camera shake is more likely than on many other basic cameras which use faster 1/125 or 1/250. It also presents an issue with bright sun and medium- fast film. Unlike most cameras the shutter realse isn't locked so you can do multiple exposures per frame (in my experience by error rather than intent)

(2) Aperture - 2 settings for sunny (f11) and cloudy (f8). Fantastic on a camera for this money

(3) Focus -erm... well the focus ring doesn't really do much - google focusing diane mini an see the flickr article. The exception is for really close shots
(4) Shot size. produces unusual frame sizes a nice retro 24x24mm negative (you get 36 on 36 exp roll) or a 12x24 frame (72 on a 36exp roll). Bear this in mind when processing

The camera has a plastic lens and combined with the shutter tends to softphotos and there is little you can do about it. So if you want that dreamy retro feel great but no so if you want to take crisp shots. Also
s will give slight curvature as wide angled.

The camera uses standard 35mm (135) film which is widely available and can be found cheaply (certain highstreet discount shop sells rolls of branded film for 1 as all the rest of the stock sells for-you know who I mean). Processing can be done cheaply too if you trust your rolls to the supermarkets (many folk do but should discuss with shop first due to frame sizes).

No flash but you can use the diana F flash units. Note the flash fitting is non standard (although the flash does come with adaptors to allow you to use a standard flash gun)

Many folk talk about being gentle with the winder. Would heed their advice as you don't want to snap film or ruin your sprocket

Great value at under 30 quid before P&P but is this what you are looking for ?

For the same money You can also get other lomo cameras like the Holga (with flash) or a second hand camera (vintage stuff and more turn of the century all singing/dancing autofocus models like the canon ixus aps series)

I knock of a point for limited focus ring and propitiatory flash fitting

3.0 out of 5 stars Compact, great looking but variable pics. average, 11 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is my second digital IXUS, my last much loved one hitting the wall (literally) 6 years ago and the hand of my then toddler daughter. Got this on run up to Easter 2013 when existing Lumix DMC-TZ7 appeared to die following being dropped. The fact that it resurrected it's self is helpful as I can compare the 2

The is certainly very good looking with it's brushed matt body. It is really small so make sure you are aware. Uses micro SDHC (I got one for free when I bought the camera from the supplier but they didn't tell me so bought a second one !).

For shooting modes in use you can switch between the standard auto mode (automatically adjust to scenes with all the bells and whistles) and your selected special mode (you need to select which one in use). The usual suspects are here B&W, low light (drops to 2.5MP very useful if taking indoor shots without flash- perfect for school Christmas shows where you're wedged at the back and your flash would be pointless) etc. There is a great multishot mode which allows you take a rapid series of shots in bursts for moving targets (again lowers MP count). A program mode allows you to distinctly fiddle

Like all compacts suffers from the time to get a focus lock and then a picture (I get lots of the backs of kids heads). This isn't particularly worse than most compact but is slightly slower than my Lumix.
Images tend to be well focused. Colours are natural but perhaps slightly cool and muted (again I prefer the Lumix shots)
Red Eye is quite an issue with flash shots.
Image quality worsens with the zoom as most compacts

Although the body is mainly very robust in less than a week managed to dent the lens protector cover area when carrying in it's case with the spare battery in wrong place) which stopped camera working until I bent it back into place.

Battery life is lower than I would want and is an issue identified in professional reviews. bear in mind branded batteries are expensive but you can by an non-canon battery as a spare

Overall looks good in a tiny package but image quality is good but not fantasitic, battery life isn't great.

Now it isn't fair to compare the two too directly. The Lumix was a higher end model but went to market in 3 years before the Canon in 2012. Both have effective 10MP output (the lumix from a 12MP sensor) but should be broadly similar and cost within 20-30 quid of each other at this time and I'd pick the Lumix

4.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the tin, 11 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Want a wireless keyboard with built in touchpad, well this is the one to go for. Perfect for media centre PC etc. The product has good range compared to some I've used ( I can sit on the sofa an use no fuss 2-3 metres from PC). Keyboard is pretty good with good travel and feedback but is more like a smaller laptop keyboard in layout so some keys a bit smaller than I like but this a minor issue and liveable with (the qwerty characters are all conventionally laid out it's just slightly small enter/return etc), just make sure you look at images before you buy. Touch pad works well enough. On/off switch is a sensible addition which others lack.

Works well with good range. Ideal for media center

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and works but capacity is lower than branded products, 25 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Have only charged this twice (will update in due course) but this works well enough. Seems to have 3/4 the capacity of official battery which is line with many replicas. Does discharge at the end quickly and seemed to go from full charge to nil very quickly (again not uncommon). This latter point is worse than some replica batteries I've used hence 4 stars, don't make the mistake of using when hits low, my camera froze with the lens uncovered and had to put the supposedly run out official battery back in to shut down.
At this price you can't compal

5.0 out of 5 stars Actually works. Now have a clean smelling machine, 25 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After years of a very whiffy washing machine which was hit with allsorts of cleaning products from tescos et al and regular bleaching to no avail, we gave this a go when we got a promo email from hotpoint (twice the price for official version on their site). Our machine needed two rounds of treatment initially but now pleasant smelling for the first time since installed !!! Lots of similar (and I suspect identical products on amazon) so do shop around but this one certainly worked

4.0 out of 5 stars The kids love it but remember no figures, 25 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Got this for our 3 year old who is scooby daft.

3 months later still intact surprisingly given our horde. Great sound effects and generally all working well. The hidden trapdoor is great fun for the kids.

Suspect plastic won't survive being chucked about too much but oddly that's not been an issue. Main door seems to stick a bit so for these 2 gets a 4

Note it doesn't come with figures of scooby and the gang but that's not a huge surprise. Takes the slightly smaller figures
