5.0 out of 5 stars Rhydian's back with a bang!, 14 April 2014

This review is from: One Day Like This (Audio CD)
Several years after he first came to fame, Rhydian has delivered an album which is both rich in production and showcases his unmistakeable voice at its best. Whilst it does include a few tracks often recorded by those within the classical/crossover genre, he suceeds in making them different and his own. The Pearl Fisher's Duet has never been recorded by one artist capable of delivering both the tenor and baritone vocals to my knowledge. Few singers I would imagine have a range capable of doing so. Another example is his Danny Boy arrangement; unlike many versions so often heard.
All the more contemporary tracks are sweeping and majestic, stamped with Rhydian's dramatic style and delivery, which gives the listener the 'wow' factor for which he is renowned and excels. However, he easily switches to the sensitvity needed where other tracks call for it.
If you liked him during his early years in the limelight, then this album will give you back what impressed you about him. It shows off his versatility, a voice which has defniitely grown in strength and range since 2007 and is accompanied by one of London's finest orchestras. Both female duet partners have voices ideally suited to the tracks chosen.
His training shines through with the classical tracks; it's little wonder he won prizes during his days in the Conservatoire prior to coming to public attention.
I'd definitely recommend buying and turning up the volume!

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy Listening, 11 Nov 2013
This review is from: Trust (Audio CD)
This album sees another change of direction for Alfie Boe. It's very much easy listening and a collection of country/bluesy/folk tunes. It's beautifully sung and produced but I suspect this is pitched far more to an American market than a UK one given the genre; and the fact that the only duet is with an American folk singer relatively unknown in this country. I didn't feel the album showed off his voice in the way the opera/classical/showtunes/rock of his previous albums have done. There is no demonstration of his impressive power and his voice, being classically trained lacks the right tone for these numbers, when held up against the original versions. If you love this type of music then you may enjoy this album, as Alfie Boe is undeniably extremely talented with a world class voice. The disc contains a list of UK Arena tour dates for 2014, but this type of music sung live is not for me, even by Alfie. Personally disappointed in this album although still very much a fan; one who hopes he will at some point return to playing to his strengths.

I have to admit, this is the first Matt Cardle album I have bought, despite liking him on X Factor. Haing listened to the samples, I bought this album and I am not just pleased with it, I think it's a delight. Every track is likeable on first listen, it's melodic, catchy, light and uplifting. Each song has a modern sound with a feeling reminsicent of the kind of music so popular and loved so much in past, evoking memories my long misspent youth most likely. He has a top class falsetto but he doesn't overuse it or allow it to dominate this album and as a result his voice is showcased extremely well. Try it out, I'm not a hardcore fan and I'm still giving him top marks for this album. It's a great piece of work. I wish him continued success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the right album to bring home!, 1 Jan 2011

Beautifully sung collection of tracks which show the sweetness and gentleness of a voice which at times demonstrates a quite remarkable power. Highlights are definitely Bring Him Home for which he received a standing ovation during the Les Miserables O2 concert that stopped the show mid point and the duet with Kerry Ellis which trips your heart. It's stunning!! This man sure knows how to sing a love song.
Alfie Boe is new to the world of Musical Theatre but so very quickly has established a place of prominence and this album gives but a taste of his talent but enough of one for this fan of MT voices to put this album on repeat.
This album showcases Alfie's voice, neither of his duet partners, the choir or the music itself is any more than an accompaniment to his vocals I felt. The same cannot be said of many albums, a great job done by the production team too.

Terribly cliche but he really does have a truly stunning voice. The damned choirs try and drown him out, more's the pity but he inspired me to love music I wouldn't have given the time of day to before. Now that is the sign of a magician. Rhydian is a magician, a powerful and emotive voice which lends itself to a variety of genres. Once in a lifetime comes a voice like this. Buy it and you won't be disappointed!! He is the ultimate showman if he only knew it. This genre shows off the beauty of his voice but not the pzazz he showcased on the X Factor. He is special....you read it here first. Variety beckons Rhydian and you know it!!

This came in only a couple of days and was incredibly easy to assemble. It's solid and looks really smart!! The cable tidy doesn't attach to the unit very firmly and kept coming off so I didn't bother using it but I wasn't really too fussed. Perhaps when I'm feeling less lazy I'll try again. I'd recommend this stand for those of us who hate complex instructions and fiddling around for hours getting all irritated and bad tempered.
